The final version of President Trump’s long-anticipated Middle East
peace plan has not been reached, according to officials, but all
indications are that it will give Israel all they want and then some,
and the Palestinians will get effectively nothing.
Saying that the peace plan is going to “stop short of Palestinian statehood”
is putting it mildly. With the administration having endorsed
Netanyahu’s talk of annexation and disavowal of the Palestinians ever
having self-determination, the “deal of the century” now hinges on the
Palestinians accepting some variation of the ever-worsening status quo.
While early talk was that Trump intended to give the Palestinians
something at some point, more recently the administration has said the
plan will be deliberately biased against the Palestinians, just to prove that the US is supportive of Israel.
Israeli officials say they are being “open-minded” to the deal now that
it’s clearly skewed entirely in their favor. Even then, it’s unclear if
Israel’s incoming far-right coalition will accept anything that
formalizes any sort of status quo, as their government seems set to
redefine the Palestinians into an even more remote corner of society.
As with past plans, the idea at this point seems to be for the
Palestinians to reject it, which they of course will since they’re not
being offered anything. Then Israel can use this to try to sell the idea
internationally that they don’t have a partner willing to negotiate
with them.
So, what is new?
Rumor says the plan is Gaza becomes Egypt, all other Palestinian lands to Jordan, with West Bank 100% to Israel. No Palestine, Palestinians become Egyptians or Jordanians.
What do the Palestinians think about that?
Interesting rumor.
Mission Accomplished: A land without people for a people without a land.
I don’t know why anyone would expect anything else. Rats don’t change their nature just because you feed them…
I was being sarcastic…
You mean aside from Justin Raimondo’s stone silence? “Our Victory”? My ass. Justin’s “Victory” is an Arab graveyard.
This just recognizes the reality
that Palestinians never wanted a “settlement”, just a takeover.
That’s not going to happen,
so they get Gaza, and that’s all.
The time for talk, 60+ years, is over.
Hasbara liar…
It’s the truth.
Clinton was ready to give Arafat 95% of the West Bank,
instead he brought the Intafada, total insanity.
They had their chances, it’s over.
You need to stop drinking what Bibi’s been drinking.
You need to come up with an informed rebuttal or
go back to your grade school class room.
My prediction is that Trump’s big deal will in fact have a lot of things in it for the Palestinian people but not for their leadership. Why? Because it’s meant to split the people of Palestine away from their leadership. That can only be done with an offer that is actually good for the people of Palestine but that is also unacceptable to the leadership.
Watch and see, the offer will in fact include much that is good for the Palestinian people. Lot’s of $$$ is my guess but it could be land or work or any combination of the above. And the offer will be significant, big enough that the leadership of Palestine will look bad if they reject it.
Think about the situation the people of Palestine find themselves in right now. There is little to no hope in sight is there? Every move Trump has made shows them just how powerless they are to do anything for themselves. Most of the Arab world itself has turned on them, Nuttyyahoo and his ilk are still in charge, etc. etc. etc. Who thinks that the people but not their leaders are ready to make a deal if something really good is put in front of them under current conditions? What are the odds that they will be given a better deal later?
It’s a messed up game but it goes basically like this. “Look we have complete control over you already, we can do as we wish. We can treat you horribly or we can be nice and either way, we will still win. Your leadership however is toast if it stands in the way, so get rid of them and take this chance and you will live better lives.” Oh and take it or leave it, it’s your choice. Stand with your current leaders and your life will be hell on Earth or make a deal and live normal lives.
Well that’s my prediction and it hasn’t changed, I’ve been saying the exact same thing about this deal for about two years now.
(This is not in any way shape or form what I personally would do. I would exit stage right and leave these problems to others.)
