The most specificity any officials have offered on the US plan for Syria, Pentagon officials confirmed Thursday that the current in-military timeline is to have all US troops out of the country by the end of April.
Officials confirmed this could be altered by policy changes in the future, but that for now the intention is to withdraw a significant number of the forces by mid-March, and the rest by the end of April.
The State Department was quick to contradict on this matter, saying that there is no timeline for withdrawing from Syria, and that the US is still committed to protecting the Kurdish YPG, and expelling all Iranian troops from Syria.
The White House did not directly comment on this matter, but it seems that the military is not interpreting Trump’s call for an “orderly pullout” as an excuse for an indefinite delay, while the State Department is still waiting for further changes in policy before admitting that troops are leaving.
This may, for the administration, prove to be the best of both worlds, as it allows the Pentagon to carry out the withdrawal that Trump ordered in December, while everyone else keeps up the pretense that nothing is finalized.
Excellent!
Its not the end of April yet…
Removing troops doesn’t stop sanctions or aggression. Using proxies in country and bombing from a neighboring country is not peace.
Demand peace, not proxy war or state funded “terrorism” with our name on it.
I get the feeling there is no marble underneath any of the shells.
uh-oh…. Plenty of time for some false flag attacks.
Truth isn’t really truth, man…
I can smell the chlorine brewing from central Pennsylvania.
Yes, until Trump’s next tweet saying we’re staying.
There’s also the issue of our “military base” in Syria that somehow will not have troops in it…………. https://original.antiwar.com/nauman_sadiq/2019/02/06/us-will-retain-a-military-base-in-syria-despite-withdrawal/
If Trump made an announcement that all troops have been withdrawn from Syria, the naysayers would say, “But, they are still en route back to the US, and might make a u-turn”.
Yup….if……
They wouldn’t admit they are wrong about Trump even if he ended five wars and didn’t start any new ones. They would just move the goal-post again and claim that because we still have the war on terror going that he’s still a war monger and you are still a warmonger too because you supported him. Never mind that nobody is going to end the war on terror or the spying while we continue to make more terrorists with our ground wars. They hate us because we are over there, so getting us out of “over there” is the only possible first step towards getting us out of the drone wars and spying business too. But the naysayers can’t look that far ahead because they live day to day trying to keep their BS narrative alive. Trump must be a warmonger or else they are wrong and would this bunch EVER admit they are wrong about anything? Of course not, As I said, Trump could end five wars and then they will just scream about the drone wars or the spying or something else. He will NEVER be good enough no matter what he does because they are more wrapped up in being right than anything else.
It’s freaking pathetic that anti-war people finally get a president who is trying to get us out and instead of supporting his effort to get us out, they act as if he isn’t even trying. In fact they just scream warmonger at him all the louder. I’m 100% convinced that the naysayers care more about being right than they do supporting peace efforts. In fact it’s so obviously true that I can’t even consider any of these naysayers as anti-war at all, they are just the same as the virtue signalling left. It’s about ego not ending wars.
Boxofvapor, I’ll believe that Trump wants our military out of the Mid East, when Trump denounces Israel’s constant plotting of all their neighbor’s destruction. We give a shit whether Muslim women wear Mother Hubbards or bikinis. We don’t care whether Muslim girls go to schools or get dragged into houses of prostitution.
The only reason why we bomb the Muslims in the Mid East is because Israel wants that and they will bribe/threaten any of our Congress who will not go along.
Trump is like Orwell’s definition of a well-trained dog ( i.e. one who jumps through hoops without even being asked to). In Trump’s case he kisses Bibi’s ass without even being bribed to do that.
I like this news, but I’m also half expecting another report to come out today contradicting this.
Wait, what?? Expel all Iranian troops from Syria? This is the first time I have ever heard that as being part of the mandate.
The mandate is evolving, and our country is fast devolving.
Thats the US masters dictate.
Which is why I don’t bother listening to this nonsense. Clearly Trump is totally out of the loop on everything with the Pentagon doing what it wants and State doing what it wants and both of them ignoring whatever Trump says. And of course there’s the intelligence community which is manipulating everything completely contrary to whatever Trump wants – assuming Trump even wants anything to begin with, other than making random tweets to “look Presidential”, to make it look like he’s really in charge of something, anything.
What a circus.
That trump doesn’t read or pay attention to what they are doing is a dream come true for US clandestine militants. Far from trying to get rid of him, as his supporters imagine, the spooks want him there forever.
Into Iraq by April’s end.
April fools!
On April 15, 2019, a day that will live in infamy, while 300 American troops were leaving Syria with cookies and milk back to their kids, the Eeeevil Iranians launched, for no reason mind you, a deadly chemical attack killing 4 and injuring 296….
No chance of this happening.
