While the exact date hasn’t been set yet, Afghan and Russian officials have confirmed that they will be co-chairing a series of new talks with the Taliban in Moscow. The officials say the focus now is on content, with the date to be settled afterward.
The Russian government had initially organized a multi-national conference for Afghanistan that was to be held earlier in September, but agreed to cancel it after talks with the Afghan government. Under the terms of an agreement, it would be put off to a future date.
Afghan officials have largely rejected multi-national talks, believing they need to make talks with the Taliban one-on-one to avoid being sidelined by other nations. This in particular has been an objection for US talks with the Taliban, which have happened outside of the Afghan government’s purview.
The US objected to Russia trying to organize such talks in general, but it seems like the Afghan government has been convinced that they can use the Moscow invite as an opportunity to kick-start serious talks with the Taliban, who had already agreed to attend Moscow talks.
How dare anyone suggest ideas for peaceful resolution of any conflict? The USA spends a HUUUGE amount on weapons and must be allowed to use them and sell them at will, with NOBODY stopping this humanitarian activity.
Trump, with his infinite foreign policy genius, is no doubt responsible for this breakthrough. I can’t wait until after the midterms when he can finally drain the swamp of the deep state and replace it with an enlightened foreign and domestic policy, one he’s espoused since his days of contributing to the Clinton campaign back when he was a Democrat, a few years ago.
“contributing to the Clinton campaign” “when he was a Democrat, a few years ago”. What a fuhcking moron you are. Typical little amateur who probably supported Cruz, you seem to be on that level.
Your IQ is too low to understand these things, but Trump was a Democrat when it was a different party. He became a Republican ten years earlier in life than Reagan. You’re gonna whine that Reagan was a Democrat? Speaking of Reagan, Trump helped him in New York when his campaign was in great need of it, and he was invited to the RNC. Reagan said Trump should run for president.
As for donating to the Dems, again, it’s hard for little kiddies to understand this, but those in top business donate to both parties and it’s expected, or they won’t be able to do business. Especially not in the politically influenced world of top real estate, in New York. It helped him get ahead, and he could use that platform later in life. Then he won the presidency. For someone with no job a few tens of thousands of dollars probably sounds like a huge fortune, but I can assure you that it made practically zero diference in the local elections.
So, your saying trump is just more mud in the swamp ?
I don’t know what he’s saying, down deep, but I’m saying that democracy in this country is a joke and voting is a big part of the joke, and should never be taken seriously. It doesn’t mean a thing.
That may be. So, is it your intention to educate, or persuade other visitors of this site, to not vote, or participate in democracy because you believe doing so is useless ?
Trump was a Democrat when he thought it beneficial to himself be a Democrat. Then when he wanted to run for president, he switched to the Reform Party because he considered that beneficial to himself. Then when Buchanan whipped his ass, he switched back to the Democrats because he considered that beneficial to himself. Then when he wanted to run for president again, he switched to the Republican Party because he considered that beneficial to himself.
To steal a word from Pence and Anonymous, Trump’s lodestar is whatever he considers beneficial to himself at any given moment. That’s his first principle and his moral center. And he generally doesn’t bother to hide it.
If the Democrats do by chance take Congress in November, he may not formally switch parties, but you’ll probably see him back on board with his previous pro-choice, pro-socialized-healthcare, etc. positions because that’s what he’ll consider beneficial to himself.
This is interesting because the Taliban have long refused direct talks with the Afghan government, demanding instead to negotiate with Washington. But the Taliban has been successful militarily recently, and the country is in dire straits. Also “the Taliban” has changed to a younger crowd, since the US has bumped off the established leaders.
Yes, people don’t understand this when they talk about “the Taliban,” that it has changed over the years. They can only see one word and stick to it. The newer Taliban have had to adapt, for example they have to allow music, things like that. They have turned more toward nationalism even though they are still also Islamists. But the degree varies.
Likewise people think al-Qaeda in Syria or Yemen or wherever are the same organizations as Usama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda. bin Laden took up arms against Washington because of the hundreds of thousands, mostly children, dying in Iraq because of the starvation sanctions, and did not want to fight Shias. Whereas “al-Qaeda” in Syria was started by bitter Iraqi Sunnis who had lost the elections to the Shia majority, and simply want to kill Shias, or Alawites first. I recall reading a former member’s account of how intense their hatred of Shias is. Which is why Washington helps them.
Thanks for that.
Yes labeling is fraught with misunderstanding. What am I? What are you? etc.
So what isn’t said is that the “Taliban” are probably and basically citizens of Afghanistan, including members of the government the US overthrew, and their benefactors, who want the US infidels the f*** out of their country.
As far as al-Qaeda, if I were the leader of some dissidents in country X then I might consider saying that look out, we’re an al-Qaeda branch. That would (1) get me instant recognition (2) probably help in recruiting, and most importantly garner the attention of the leader of the free world who would declare us a major enemy and maybe kill some of us, which would all help recruiting coupled with some payment and a desire for revenge.
