A new conference in Moscow aimed at discussing new ways to get peace talks going between Afghanistan and the Taliban insurgency has representatives from a lot of the regional powers, including Pakistan, China, India, Iran, and most of central Asia. Despite the US having a large number of ground troops inĀ Afghanistan, and having had them there for 16 years, there will be no American presence at the conference.
That’s quite an aberration, because even though the US isn’t necessarily always on board for peace talks at any given time, they usually at least attend the talks. This move is in no small part reflective of the growing US-Russia tensions, and the US desire not to let Russia play any role in peace there.
The State Department, in addressing their non-attendance, said as much, insisting that they feel it is “not constructive” for Russia to be allowed to exert influence in Afghanistan, and that they don’t trust the “purpose” of Russia holding such talks.
Russia, of course, has made clear repeatedly that they want a resolution in Afghanistan that does not allow ISIS or any other Islamist faction with ambitions beyond the Afghan border establishing a foothold in the country and threatening the former Soviet countries in Central Asia, most of whom have defense pacts with Russia.
Because peace on other countries’ terms is not the US objective.
As with other US fomented wars throughout the wartorn ME, the US objective is to cut Russia and China completely out of the equation.
The US march to complete control over the ME began with the fall of the Soviet Union and ended when Russia and China gained the ability to stand up and get in the way of US progress. The US just hasn’t come to accept that yet. We all hope the US does before it becomes another world war with real WMD’s this time!
The kind of weapons that cause “mass” destruction of entire large cities!
Peace is sooo unAmerican.
Also, the USA seems to find itself in some sort of video game, not the real world with real human disasters, which a real nation should at least address.
The only conclusion that I seem to be able to draw from this is: That ISIS is under U.S./Israeli control, .and doing it’s bidding…. Plus, Israel has stated and ACTED that Israel wants ISIS to.survive & prosper… so as to be able to check and confront Hesbolah..
Will their cozzying up to ISIS cause them to lose any U.S. financial & political support..
???? Don’t count on it…. More of the tail wagging the dog is what we U.S. taxpayers must learn to accept….
The US does not want peace. Permanent conflict and chaos is Washington’s MO
Like trying to bring underworld figures to piece talks.
It will defeted the purpose if Americans join to piece talks.
Main purpose of Americans invasion to Afghanistan and Iraq to stay there for good to get natural resources,so if there is piece they have to leave, leaving is not American interest.
