The first time a top British spy has ever given a newspaper interview, MI5 chief Andrew Parker has spoken with the Guardian, playing up the “growing threat” posed by Russia against British interests around the world.
Parker claimed a “whole range of state organs and powers” in Russia are being brought to bear against Britain and the US, claiming that the advent of cyberwarfare has increased the number of ways in which Russia can move against them.
Parker went on to claim that Russia defines itself by opposition to the West and, despite being a “covert threat for decades” has been increasingly hostile, citing their operations in Ukraine and Syria as proof that they are acting to just spite the West.
This has been a common western talking point, but in practice Western (read: US) policy in both Ukraine and Syria appears to have itself been built with an eye toward being on the opposite side from Russia in the first place, and Russia is then condemned for acting in their own interests.
This was particularly glaring in Syria, where Russia’s interest was obviously in the survival of a friendly Syrian government to host their naval base, and where “countering” Russia has brought the US “anti-ISIS coalition” into increasingly overt support for al-Qaeda’s Nusra Front, simply because they’re the ones most directly fighting against Russia.
Bullroar. America’s favorite poodle yaps crap again.
Andrew Parker, another yapping poodle of U.S. Empire. Look for him on John Oliver’s show next week.
Calling names. The anglos started the war,the Russians will end it.Like with Napoleon and Hitler.
It’s my understanding that MI5 functions much like our FBI. It seems inappropriate to refer to Andrew Parker as a top British Spy. MI6 is more like our CIA.
““countering” Russia has brought the US “anti-ISIS coalition” into increasingly overt support for al-Qaeda’s Nusra” This statement, I think may be misleading in suggesting that the US-Alq alliance was brought about by Russia’s involvement, when it in fact pre-dates it; see Perry’s featured article on AW.com, yesterday !
MI5 is the UK domestic ‘intelligence’ service. MI6 is the foreign ‘intelligence’ service. Last I heard Russia was not part of the UK. Maybe MI5 is having to MI6’s job because they are too busy recruiting jihadists and running them from Gaziantep, Turkey in order to destroy Syria.
Oct 21, 2016 The West can “get stuffed” – Putin
Vladimir Putin takes journalists’ questions at the BRICS Summit, 2016. After schooling the audience on the fallacies of US foreign policy over the past 20 years, a journalist attempts to tell Putin that counter-sanctions to the West are a bad idea. The answer was a little less diplomatic than what we’re used to!

I suddenly realized that Russia is angry with our role (Clinton’s) in the break-up of Yugoslavia. This could explain any hostility they might have against Hillary. Does anyone in the US ever talk about that war? Yet it seems to have made quite an impression on Putin.
No they do not with all of the daily dramas by the American Fascist daily in the media. They are being overwhelmed just like the Germans were before and during their war. History repeats!
Blah, blah, blah. More propaganda. Russia is no more a threat to anyones interests than my pet Airdale.
More preparing the masses for their own destruction in a nuclear WWIII with Russia. The song remains the same sung by the same puppets.
Does the leopard change its spots? Even in a world with nuclear weapons? Cast your minds back to the imperial period in which European powers vied for control of colonies and their resources, with little regard for the interests of the natives. When Britain demanded control of the seas, and of much of Africa, the new state of Germany was the odd one out. Who was to blame for WWI? Does it matter?
Just as the empires broke down after WWI, resulting in the rise of European fascism, we are seeing some new forms of fragmentation and loss of control. Into the breach come new forces, and deliberate trouble-makers who want to manipulate what used to be called “the masses.” Is this happening again? Or is our own version of imperial elites firmly in control? And why is Russia always the focus when China stands in a position to take much more power in a wider world?
Did he name one “british” interest and explain how Russia threatened it?
