Speaking at a news conference today in Turkey, Vice President Joe Biden sought to downplay the remote chances of any sort of political settlement coming out of this week’s planned Geneva peace talks, saying the US and Turkey are fully prepared to bypass the process and impose a “military solution” on Syria.
“We do know it would be better if we can reach a political solution,” Biden told the conference, insisting that absent that the US military was still fully capable of “solving” the situation.
US officials later sought to clarify that Biden only meant to say that the US could wipe out ISIS, and not that they were planning to impose a new government on Syria as a whole absent a deal from the international community.
Even that seems like an uphill battle, particularly if it’s to be the US and Turkey working together on the war, as the primary force on the ground fighting ISIS is the Kurdish YPG, and Turkish officials have attacked them multiple times in recent weeks, and warned the US against backing them against ISIS in certain key cities.
Biden made an effort to downplay the differences between the US and Turkey on Syria, even equating ISIS to the Kurdish PKK rebels. This echoes what President Erdogan has said, but in his comments he included the YPG, a close US ally, as equal to both ISIS and the PKK.
While the Obama Administration has repeatedly insisted they intend to “wipe out” ISIS, there is no suggestion that this is anything but a hugely long-term ambition, and Biden’s comments suggest that leaving the war open-ended is something the US is perfectly comfortable with.
ONLY VOTING MAJORITY HAS WEALTH — NOT BY ACCIDENT
Below are the results of a research study, as you can see the upper half of society has all the wealth. A most perfect situation for enslaving the laboring-class lower-half of society, for if your class has no wealth, then no way is there for you to hire the politicians needed to gain liberty. A situation the laboring-class was in the year USA was created and an economical slavery that continues to this very day.

ummm… since when does the US not leave a war open ended? Isn’t that their “solution”
‘..leaving the war open-ended is something the US is perfectly comfortable with…’
Especially crooks, thieves, and war profiteers the flunkies in Congress have
cut a blank check. An open-ended war against manufactured boogeyman (terrorists) is a win-win situation for the bastards in the corrupt USG regime.
First, it uses the threat of (terrorism) to swindle the people out of trillions of
dollars. Second, it gives the regime an excuse carry out military operations in most places on this planet where natural resources can be taken.
As long as our government does not understand that the road to even a semblance of stability in Syria leads through Damascus and not through Geneva there will be continued war in Syria.
Biden’s statement is a textbook example of Orwell’s 1948. Droning ISIL is not a military solution?
In other words, Dieter, the USSA and Turkey are declaring themselves to be committing suicide. This is what the lunatics in both governments are trying to drag the rest of the world into. The Russian Federation, along with Syria (and possibly China and Iran) will totally destroy the military forces of both countries, as well as wipe Turkey off the map.
Are the leaders of these two countries that suicidal?
I fear they might be. Look at the rhetoric coming from the presidential candidates. Not one diplomat in the group.
The warmongers behind all this rhetoric will be wetting their pants, once the missiles start flying. They had better pull back; or, they’re toast.
As a negotiating tactic this statement makes some sense, even if a rather transparent bluff. We must always claim to have alternatives.
However, if this is our government’s view of reality, we have a real problem. It is nuts.
“US officials later sought to clarify that Biden only meant to say that the US could wipe out ISIS”
No! Biden let his mouth run away with him. He said what he meant to say. Then he had to cover his butt because he’d talked too fast and let slip what Obama’s REAL goals were. As I’ve said all along, the US’ and Israel’s goal is to degrade Syria enough that Israel can attack Hizballah in Lebanon safely and to prevent both Syria and Hizballah from being effective actors in an Iran war.
That is still the plan. The presence of Russia has made that difficult, but the US still has plans that involve Turkey invading Syria to keep the Turkish-Syria border open for ISIS, with the US possibly coming in later.
The US also seems intent on getting Saudi Arabia to stir up trouble with Iran, with an eye toward getting an Iran war started that way.
