After ditching the $500 million “train-and-equip” program, the Obama Administration rapidly started making high-profile pronouncements about new arms shipments to assorted rebel factions. Dubbed “Arab groups” in Pentagon statements, the program is creating a lot of confusion, primarily over who they’re arming.
“Arab groups” aren’t really a specific thing in a largely Arab country like Syria, and while some airdrops were reported in Hasakeh Province, Free Syrian Army (FSA) factions openly talking up terrorist attacks are also claiming stepped up shipments of missiles from the US.
The Pentagon doesn’t seem to be really specific about anything involving this new program. Yesterday, they insisted that the rebels don’t need to be vetted because they’re fighting ISIS, but today they assured al-Jazeera that the unnamed leaders of these unnamed groups were vetted.
But if so, why is the US so desperate to keep these factions a secret? A lot of tiny factions across Syria style themselves as US-backed groups, mostly recipients of CIA weapons in years past, and while a lot of them assumed they’d be the recipients of this major new armament effort. A lot of them don’t seem to be in the mix so far though.
Somewhere along the line, some of those arms are probably going to start flowing toward the Kurdish YPG, and that’s going to start a whole new round of arguments with Turkey, which has repeatedly warned the US against arming the Kurds, even though the YPG is the primary faction in Hasakeh, and fighting ISIS.
In the meantime, however, the US airdrops remain shrouded in mystery, with assurances that whoever the US intended to arm was armed, and expectations that those factions, whoever they are, are going to do something at some point.
Their Hydra now has so many heads that it causes confusion among the ranks.
They have now resorted to simply pointing at the gaggle of bobbing and hissing heads and saying "those ones"
Assad should create some special unit pretending to be "rebels" so as to get shiny new weapons from the US to use against US-backed terrorists.
Rather like Putin's "rebels" in Donetsk and Lugansk.
The US spent billions of taxpayer dollars to to overthrow a democratically elected Presdient in Ukraine, see Victoria Nuland. US aggression is a real threat to Russia and the people in Donetsk are on Putin's side regardless of the propaganda rom the presstitutes.
Assad is secular and protects Christians but is called a butcher in propaganda. The US on the other hand supported e.g. Guatamalan dictator Rios Montt who was convicted of genocide though his former subordinates and the US had the conviction overturned.
The neocons are criminal scum and beloved of the right especially though not exclusively.
How is that comparison supposed to work?
ISIS: Thank you Obama for your last shipment of weapons,
unfortunately the anti-aircraft missiles that we ordered were
not among them.
Our gratitude once again for your support.
ISIS was created by the Saudi's as were the Taliban. Saudi and the Gulf state still support them. Turkey funnels volunteers and provides ISIS safe havens and is bombing the Kurds who are the only effective force against ISIS and we are keeping them from getting the heavy weapons they need. We are giving arms to Al Qaeda who Israel is also providing medical care too.
Israel and the Saudi's want ISIS to take out Syria and then do the same in the Lebanon as Hezbolah defend the country from Israeli aggression. Israel wants land and water in the Beqaa valley. The Saudis are afraid of their own Shiite population and are bombing Yemeni Shiites with US weapons. When Bibi talks to Congress he gets standing ovations.
The neocons are calling the shots and not for the benefit of the US peasantry who are useful idiots for them.
It is difficult to conceive of any so-called world power behaving in such an irresponsible manner. The US empire is definitely the weakest ever intellectually.
Could it be that the original PNAC plan to set the ME on fire and wait for the ashes to settle was running out of fuel? The neocons screwed the pooch to co-opt the Iraqis and use them as a command center (why else would they build a multi-billion $$$ "embassy"?) and the Turks have decided to eliminate the Kurds and those damned Russians have interfered with the plan to eliminate Assad…and then they couldn't find more than 100 or so "moderate rebels"…so, WTH, just start dumping arms and stuff willy-nilly across the desert and see what happens. Sounds like a plan to me. Idiots.
I wonder if these cretins think that their elite status is going to protect them when the whole world goes to sh!t. There are going to be a massive amount of really pissed off people looking for someone to pay, don't you know.
That is a good question, that has to be asked again and again every 50 years or so when things get intolerable again. But I guess the degenerate ruling class that is allegedly so smart and educated never gets around to asking, let alone looking at history. When some minuscule minority in a country or world-wide rules over the a huge majority in such a destructive and egoistic fashion that generates nothing but death, destruction, and misery, what do they expect will ultimately happen?
Not to worry. It's all going according to plan, which is to create an "arc of instability," into which US arms manufacturers can sell weaponry to both sides, with the assistance of its marketing and sales forces in the US government.
This article is all pure Pentagon Propaganda B.S. from the Joint Chiefs front office!
General Wesley Clark: Wars Were Planned – Seven Countries In Five Years
"This is a memo that describes how we're going to take out seven countries in five years, starting with Iraq, and then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and, finishing off, Iran." I said, "Is it classified?" He said, "Yes, sir." I said, "Well, don't show it to me." And I saw him a year or so ago, and I said, "You remember that?" He said, "Sir, I didn't show you that memo! I didn't show it to you!"

It should now be clear WHO Obama and the Pentagon are really arming: ISIS. If you drop tons of weapons into contested areas, the guys who already have the most guns will get them. That's ISIS (or Al-Nusra) in Syria. And it should be obvious that Obama and the Pentagon know that.
This is the clearest proof ever that Obama and the Pentagon are DIRECTLY and DELIBERATELY supporting ISIS. As long as ISIS is fighting Assad, they will continue to support ISIS.
The whole goal of the Syria crisis is to destroy Syria's ability to act as an effective actor in an Iran war, and to enable Israel to attack Hizballah in Lebanon for the same reason.
Iran is the target. ISIS is the tool. Once ISIS destroys Syria and Iraq, they will target Iran. And Israel will help them, and if Iran retaliates, the US will attack Iran. That's the game plan.
We can only hope that Russia can derail that plan.
