In a new open letter, three dozen retired US generals and admirals have endorsed the P5+1 nuclear deal with Iran as the “most effective means” to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, and called on Congress to vote in favor of the pact.
The letter echoes sentiment from current Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey, who said that resolving the dispute with Iran diplomatically “is superior than trying to do that militarily.”
A military confrontation with Iran is very much the point for a lot of the Congressional opponents, however, and the letter also seemed aimed at them, saying that a US war with Iran would be much easier to sell internationally if the diplomatic deal had been tried first.
Congress is not expected to be able to muster enough votes to block the deal, and administration officials are warning that if they do it would be calamitous for America’s global standing, and making diplomacy with other nations much more difficult in the future.
Good. Now someone needs to hire a script writer to come up with some narrative where all these chickenhawks can pretend to be ready to nuke Iran while still supporting the deal. After all, that's what matters to these losers. Pretend to be tough as a campaign image in order to get the money from the material supporters of terrorism and death.
Sounds like a perfect script for Rand Paul: "I was against the Iran deal before I voted in favor."
Kerry-style flip flops won't fly. It has to be a simultaneous vote in favor-while pretending to be against.
Iran deal is a no-brainer. However, when dealing with political hacks and chicken hawks
on aipac's payroll who have (no) brains is another question. Great that these retired
generals and admirals support the Iran deal. I would support their opinion over the crap
we hear from the political scum sucking up to aipac.
Aren't the Republicans and the rest of the warmongers the ones who always say, "We have to listen to the Generals!" Isn't that the mantra McCain and his ankle-nipping poodles always spew when they want more wars? So, now that the Generals are saying it's a really bad idea to do what the warmongering Israel-Firsters are insisting on, I wonder how much they will listen to their own advice. I'm betting the Generals will be tossed under the bus as appeasers.
Here's a good question: Why is the MSM not giving any of these retired generals any airtime? Well, we know where their bread is buttered.
What do these generals know–obviously, the deep thinkers in Congress who are opposed to the deal know better.
