Speaking at a press conference today, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned against allowing the Annan peace talk negotiations to go on too long, saying that there had to be a “deadline” for Assad to start the talks.
This is in spite of the fact that Assad already agreed to the talks but doesn’t have anyone to talk to, since most of the rebels have rejected the idea of a negotiated settlement on general principle.
And indeed, Clinton’s comments suggest that this is the official US position as well, saying that the Syrian President “must go” no matter what, terming the peace talk effort part of a “multi-pronged” approach to regime change.
This is similar to the US strategy in Iran recently, in which officials openly say talks with Iran are designed primarily to fail, which in turn “justifies” more sanctions. Whether officials are successful in spinning Assad’s agreeing to talks and the rebels not as a fault of the regime remains to be seen.

How many Afghan civilians died and what are their names? I personally am interested in this information not names of invaders.
I don't have access to civilian names but would be happy to publish them. The point I am trying to make is the U. S. military is in fact loosing this war. In the words of the top Australian ground commander in Afghanistan, "the Taliban have overwhelmed coalition forces and cannot be defeated militarily." Unfortunately no media outlet regularly publishes regular casualties from Afghanistan and therefore it is difficult to gauge the success or failure of U.S. combat operations. In my view anyone following the day to day casualty counts could easily determine the futility and failure of the U.S. and NATO effort.
Very sad for the young lost lives. However, they were aware that joining the army they will not defend their country only , but also be send abroad to KILL and DESTROY , and be paid for that.
No one forced them to do that. They chose to KILL for money and mabye for the big corporations and the US Fifth column, unfortunately for them and their families.

Assad is not going anywhere, nor the Iranian government no matter who they pr what they are, they also want to talk on the bases and principals regarding Iranian nuclear technology, question is, are you willing to travel to Tehran and talk to the Iranian government, believe me they are friendly and will respect your statue, show you around the historic country, show you the Persian Art and culture and then you can talk say whatever you want, the only thing they ask is that you and your boss to be honest about the matter, not some BS political comment ultimatum which is a usual, saying as such "Assad must got no matter what” if you ask the Syrian people they will tell you that it is you that needs to go, that it is you and your falsified democracy which have opened a new chapter of atrocities conducted by your mercenaries in middle east that needs to go no matter what, 72% of the people see you and your politics as their # 1 enemy and you still don't believe the facts, you lost your bet Hillary Clinton, so goes for your boss and your tyrants and NATO friends, thats why your ultimatum are empty as your falsified word about democracy is, the only democracy you and your boss understand is war and more wars upon people in middle east and rest of this world. Similarly, the powers that be in Iran have been looking for a rapprochment with the "peace-loving" United States. If the "peace-loving" powers that be here won't establish a rapprochment with Iran, don't hold you're breath waiting for them to establish a truce with Syria.

No other nation would want Clinton were she to go! The space people could send her to Mars but that might frighten the Martians!
One can see through politicians such as Clinton but there are far too many taken in by the media reporting of the internal conflict in Syria.
Todays media is not the media once proud to investigate and question events. Clearly there is a conspiracy and agenda which has to be tackled head on and hopefully governments will come to realise that every one's standard of living is enhanced with a genuine truthfull media.
One need only consider Syria's political proximity to Iran and its geographic proximity to Israel to understand why Washington would be so keen to back insurgents with known ties to al Qaeda and other extremist Islamist groups.

As far as the American public goes, of course they'll be successful in the anti-Assad spin; when you control the media and tell the people what you want them to hear- true or not- they'll have no way to distinguish fact from fiction and they'll think whatever you want them to. The telling factor in all of this is: why Syria? Why is the US so intent on injecting itself into Syria's affairs? The answer, as always, is the same as it always is the 'follow the money' principle: who benefits from disruption in Syria? Right now it's a tossup between the opposing forces, but it's my guess that the US is pushing hard for this on behalf of a certain small Middle Eastern nation whose name begins with an *I* and it's not Iraq or Iran.

Hillary is insisting that Assad must set a firm date for ending the talks with the rebels and says that the talks can't go on for ever. Compare that to her attitude toward the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations where she will allow Israel to drag its feet in the so-called "peace process" while the settlers continue to steal more Palestinian land.

Larry, I completely agree with you. Why should Assad be allowed to kill hundreds if not thousands of his own people. When we should be in there killing tens if not hundreds of thousands of Syrians ourselves. It worked out well for us in Iraq and Afghanistan why not Syria as well.
