Tensions are rising along the Israeli-Lebanese border today as a reported 75 Israeli artillery shells exploded inside Lebanese territory during a military exercise in the occupied Golan Heights.
The shells were only part of the mystery today, as Israeli warplanes also dropped an unidentified object into a ravine in southern Lebanon during the operations. Lebanese forces have been unable to get close to the object because the area is littered with Israeli cluster bomblets from the 2006 war.
The area hit with the shells was near the border, and likely was a case of accidental fire, though it is sure to raise questions as to why the operations were so close to the contested border to begin with, even if no injuries were reported. The area around the mystery object is likely unoccupied, since cluster bombs have rendered it uninhabitable.
Lebanon’s National News Agency was quoted as identifying the shells as 75 mm, 155 mm, and 175 mm artillery shells. Israel occupied the Shebaa Farms and Golan Heights in 1967, and claims it is now part of Israel.
And if Lebanon had shelled Israel, the scumbags in the US Congress would be demanding war, war and more war. It is time for the American public to wake up and realize just who the appeasers are!
Israel is out of water and they have to invade Lebanon to get the waters of the Latavi river. Ben Guion knew that Israel needed the waters of the Latavi and he attempted to get the british to include the land bordering the Latavi as part of the land going to his people. Israel obtained lots of water tables after the war of aggression in 1967 but the people of Israel are very wasteful. For 60 years they cried the came to a desert and make a forest. They planted millions of trees in the desert only to learn that the trees destroy the water tables and caused fire dangers.
It would be very expensive to get rid of the trees so Israel looks for the usual method of getting something which is to steal it from a neighbor.
Israel has a problem attacking Lebanon as long as Iran is powerful. The water issue and the check on Israel aggression is the big issue with attacking Iran. Israel does not like being stuck because the know going into Lebanon will result is a massive number of dead IDF as long as Iran can supply weapons to those who would fight the IDF. Israel does not like attacking armed enemies. They do their best attacking unarmed woman and children.
And it's probably why the US government is so heavily involved in the so-called rebellion in Syria.
INteresting tomofsnj – in fact the people who currently run Israel are newcomers to the land and have zero idea of how to conserve water or use the land, appearing, over 62 years to have 'made the desert bloom' and all that. Of course they have, and that was clever with use of drip irrigation by the earliest Zionist settlers, but now, even with so much money donated from the JNF and from US tax coffers there remains a problem. Water in the region is being used by Israelis to fill swimming pools to lavish a Californian lifestyle on themselves. Palestinians and Lebanese and Syrians know better than this and use water in these areas much more sparingly as they have done for a few thousand years.
I agree with you about Iran and Lebanon, that Iran provides weapons for Hizbollah and has no intentions of attacking anyone, only in defence (according to the US defence department) but no other support as such. Hizbollah being the only organisation within Lebanon with any chance of rebuffing any Israeli land invasion, as they have done twice now.
The trees, of which you most astutely write tomofanj, are primarily funded by the Jewish National Fund and are often planted on the sites of Arab and Bedouin villages and towns which continue to be wiped off the map, particularly in the Negev these days. The JNF continues to collect money around the world claiming to be a legitimate charity, even in the UK and USA, and yet is part and parcel of ethnic cleansing.
Eretz Israel expects the borders to expand well beyond the Nile and the Litani, and as was described by David ben Gurion – "We shall define our borders by our actions.."
Tom I think you are referring to the "Latani River".
Actually it's Al-Litani from the Arabic pronounciation (ألليطاني) not Al-Latani. Regardin to their dream or fantasy borders which the Israeli teach their kids at schools ar from the Nile river until the Euphrate river in Iraq. Of course it will include Jordan, Syria, Lebanon & part of Iraq which is west from the Euphrate river. They will need more US tax money to fund their hopeless dreams.
It seems the Israelis are just as bad as Americans when it comes to aiming weapons.
What makes you think the Israeli shells didn't land where they were supposed to land. This was probably bait for Hezbollah.
BTW, it wasn't the Israelis that "made the desert bloom". It was blooming before Israel ever existed.

To me, this sounds almost identical to what happened between N.Korea and S.Korea last year. So, for fun and education, spend some time comparing how this story today is reported (or not) and compare it to the stories about N.Korea that made it sound like WWIII was starting because the evil N. Koreans had fired shells that had landed in S. Korea
The cancer of Israel keeps seeping out like radioactive waste…
