The moral standing of the United States of America has deteriorated in the decade since 9/11. Ten years of unnecessary and calamitous war, torture, indefinite detention, warrantless surveillance, and hubris has degraded its standing as a steadfast defender of liberty and fierce protector of the rule of law. The lack of improvement under Obama lends credence to the notion that this is the new normal.
