The US State Department today condemned efforts by the Palestinian Authority to bring a resolution before the UN Security Council pointing out the illegality of the Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, but declined to answer questions on whether the US would veto the resolution.
Reports have a number of competing resolutions being floated, all of which condemn the settlements, but State Department spokesman Mark Toner insisted that the issue was not the sort of thing that should even be discussed by the UN.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry mocked the resolution, saying it proved how desperate the Palestinians were, and cautioned European nations which might support such a resolution not to give the Palestinians false hope that the settlements would stop being expanded into their territory.
Israel occupied the West Bank in 1967 and has seized considerable portions of the territory for religious settlements since then. The government has ruled out ever ending the expansion of the settlements, and while the US has nominally expressed opposition to their further expansion, they are fully expected to defend tooth and nail Israel’s continued expansion, regardless of its impact.
Is that the state department who is run by a woman who daughter just converted to a new religion which just happens to be the one building the settlements? Our state department clearly is not one to comment on anything. It has been proven to be only a spy organization to collect credit card numbers. I wonder if they also are the one sending me all that spam mail?

Wow! Smart ones, ain't they? I wonder what in the world gave the Palestinians away on that one.
Denial is bifurcate river between Tel Aviv and Washington, District of Crooks.
That the United States not only opposes this resolution but makes possible the continued theft by Israel of Palestinian lands leaves little doubt that the regime in Washington has become a largely criminal enterprise.
I would trust myself to the tender mercies of Don Corleone or Tony Soprano before I would the United States government.
Washington has become a largely criminal enterprise…wholly-owned by that other criminal enterprise.
The U.S.' official policy still is that Israel is confined to its pre1967 borders, isn't it? So now the U.S. State Department is opposed to official U.S.' policy? How insane can it get?
Why do Americans not recognize that strikes against the U.S. are in retribution for the horrors the U.S supported Israelis have done to the Palestinans, whose land the Israelis claim, and the Lebanese whose territory including the Litani River is also claimed by Israel?. All of the actions by Israel in contraventon of the Geneva Accords has been supported with U.S. tax dollars. The U.S. has supported with our tax dollars all the taking of Palestinian lands and the suffering of the Palestinians by the Israelis.
the site administrator should surely welcome the truth. Just check the words of Muslim inhabitants of the Middle East — there is no mystery concerning why the U.S. is hated.

"Not the sort of thing that should even be discussed by the U.N." Strange remark by Mark Toner. It were the United Nations which decided on the partition of Palestine and subsequently left a legacy of war and warcrimes, a misery, human rights abuses for the last 60 odd years. Should it therefore not be the UN who should resolve the issue. Mark Toner had no other solution, so he better shuts up.
