Who are you going to believe, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs or your own eyes?
That is the question Americans are faced with today, following an appearance on NBC’s “Today” show in which he declared that calls for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to resign were “ridiculous and absurd.”
Gibbs went on to say that Secretary Clinton had never ordered diplomats to spy on UN Security Council officials, despite WikiLeaks’ public release of a classified document signed by Secretary Clinton explicitly ordering diplomats to spy on UN Security Council officials.
The revelation has prompted serious concerns as it shows, conclusively, that Secretary Clinton ordered spying against top UN officials and the stealing of their credit card numbers and other personal data in clear contravention to both US and international law. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is said to be planning to remind the Obama Administration that this is in fact a serious crime.
So far however US officials both past and present have met the leaks with complete dismissal, attempting to make the entire story about exactly how many people ought to be executed for embarrassing those in power. It seems that things like “proof” are too far outside their general field of expertise to even register.
It is a well known fact that the public at large, stressed daily from the insane pressures to stay afloat, does not really have the capacity to care. They are in the need of entertainment and escape by the end of a day. So, denying anything is an absolutely right approach. Ms. Clinton is safe. She is loved by the corporations that are american in name only. These are the people who make all the money outside of America, employ people outside America, shield capital from taxation in America. What then they need us for? For our military, of course! Whose skirts will they hide behind, if US military goes home? The likes Ms. Clinton is protecting do not think of America as home. They do not care if people have no health care, education, or decent income. They have homes around the world, travel with their own planes, have their own security, own health care and education, and control the banks to insure their brats have income without ever having to work for living.
She would not resign. It seems that moral high ground long the beauty of western democracy is dead. She or for that matter majority of western leaders except few are no different than the despot and corrupt leaders & politicians of the third world.
Only in the Excited States is the crime of spying committed by other nations and certainly not the Excited States itself which is really the victim here. ie Clinton did not order the UN diplomats to spy on UN officials. Obviously the rest of the world is not intelligent enough to comprehend the meaning of the classified docs WikiLeaks released and needs to have them interpreted as to their real meaning by the her excellency.
it seem like today america is officially an aristocracy.
I think you must have meant to say plutocracy.
"Despite Conclusive Evidence, White House Denies Clinton Ordered Spying…"
"denial /(dĭ-nīˈəl)/ (Psychology): an unconscious defense mechanism used to reduce anxiety by denying thoughts, feelings, or facts that are consciously intolerable" [Random House Dictionary].
WHPress/Sec Bobby 'Bart' Gibbs says- "we didn't do it." Sure sure Bobby boy we believe you. We surely do. There's wmd's in Iraq and Iran gots nookular weapons and Mrs. O'Leary's cow started the great Chicago fire and George Bush is innocent and America does not torture and certainly we believe you. Why might you think otherwise there Bobby boy?
This is depressing. I think I'm gonna go watch tapes of the Mike Huckabee show with Toby Keith singing about how wonderful America is.
"It seems that things like “proof” are too far outside their general field of expertise to even register"
A real gem….Thanks Jason…. It made laugh…… You may save some lives..!! Where IS my blood pressure medicine ???
Power tends to corrupt– absolute power to corrupt absolutely.
I think these people are incapable of telling the truth, no matter how apparent it is to everyone. It's downright embarrassing watching their official liar, er, press secretary, uttering whoppers for everyone to swallow. Does this man have no shame?
Yes! Who and what is this spokesman for the White House representing? Revealed cheaters and criminals sre protected, so that further criminal actions will be safe. A tremensous let down of the respect and integrity of the American people, and a clear threat against all people in the world: MIGHT MAKES RIGHT NO MATTER WHAT! That is the ideal we are supposed to swallow. I could not speak for the Americans, since they have accepted black ops for decenniums. But even if you might threat the entire world to adher to that lower standard today, the birth of new, sound and healthy people, will of course reraise this issue again and again.
And some day a terrorist will be seen as a maybe really a justice seeking individual foremost, USING THE NECESSARY MEANS OF A SUBJUGATED PEOPLE since the official regime does NOT uphold right against wrong!
'Gibbs went on to say that Secretary Clinton had never ordered diplomats to spy on UN Security Council officials, despite WikiLeaks’ ?
The intellectual effort expended in crafting this official White House response must have been incredibly draining – a wonderful tribute to clarity and the unstinting and skilful diplomatic efforts of America to make the world a safer place for all mankind – God Bless Her
Actually, I'm afraid the FedGov spews lies with a naturalness that is genuinely astonishing.
"Truth is treason in the empire of lies." ..George Orwell.
The sad thing is, most Americans would like to get this kind of criminals out of office and put in jail, if given the choice. But they don't have the choice. Nor do any other Westerners. The politicians favored and promoted by the media bosses rule us and can't be removed.
A complete lie such as that Ahmadinejad wants "Israel to be wiped off the map" is used by media bosses and politicians for years, while WRITTEN PROOF that Establishment diplomats sought material to use for blackmailing the UN chairman with is dismissed and soon dumped down the memory hole.
The official denials that diplomats were ordered to spy are laughable.
1) Dark allusions to "another agency" being behind the directives?
Probably true, but irrelevant. Wherever the ultimate impetus for the infomation gathering might have come from, these diplomats received this directive from their own head office. The State Department.
2) This was a directive that diplomats were "free to ignore?"
Yeah. Right. Everybody who has a job anywhere knows that when you get explicit directives from head office, you are free to ignore them.
3) US diplomats are not spies?
I recall reading a recent interview with a retired former US diplomat who was clearly perplexed by these directives. He seemed to be saying "We just aren't trained or equipped to do that kind of thing." I felt he was being sincere, but perhaps a little quaint. Like he was a diplomat from an earlier era. Which, of course, he was.
Let's face it, these directives didn't just call for chatting at cocktail parties. You don't get credit card numbers, frequent flier numbers, DNA samplesand iris scans that way (not unless you slip something into people's drinks). No, you need to do some pretty cloak and dagger stuff that we don't normally think of as "diplomatic." You need to carry hidden cameras and remote digital readers, you need to pick pockets, break into hotel rooms, bribe waiters, etc. etc.
These directives to steal Ban Ki Moon's credit card number etc. were issued with the expectation that they would be and COULD be carried out. Which makes it hard not to conclude that US "diplomats" are both trained and equipped to comply with directives like this. In other words, spies.
I sincerely hope the wikileaks revelations will eventually include horrified cables back to State from embassies the world over saying "Hillary, Don't tell us to burgle foreign ambassadors and steal their stuff! we don't have the skills! Get someone else to do your dirty work!"
(or maybe even "what you are ordering us to do is illegal and wrong!")
If so, then I will be relieved to know that diplomats are still just diplomats. Maybe I just have old-fashioned notions about what "diplomatic skills" should mean.
