In a speech at the United Nations Security Council, American Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice tying long-term commitments in Iraq to hostilities with the Iranian government, and said that the Obama Administration “will seek an end to Iran’s ambition to acquire an illicit nuclear capacity.”
The accusation, just the latest in a long line of Obama officials accusing Iran of attempting to acquire nuclear weapons, drew a harsh rebuke from Iranian envoy Mohammad Khazaee, who said that it was “the same tired, unwarranted and groundless allegations that used to be unjustifiably and futilely repeated by the previous US administration.”
Despite the repeated US accusations that the nation’s nuclear program is aimed at creating weapons, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has continued to verify that none of the uranium enriched in their civilian energy program has been diverted to any other use. At the same time, the White House has declared Iran’s nuclear program and “urgent” problem and Israel has repeatedly threatened to attack Iran over the program.
