A growing number of former US ambassadors and other diplomats are issuing statements loudly criticizing the “hysteria” within Congress and aspects of the US media regarding Russia, and in particular the obsession with demonizing those officials who have met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.
Describing the efforts as a “witch-hunt” the officials noted that Kislyak’s job as Ambassador to the United States is to meet with US officials, with former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul saying it was wrong to discourage officials from doing so.
Others rejected the idea that Kislyak would’ve been involved in a plot against the US election, saying it would’ve made no sense to have Russia’s top public representative carry out such a clandestine action, particularly since the meetings were largely public knowledge in the first place.
Interestingly the criticism, which comes from appointees from both parties, strongly echoes Russia’s own reaction to the various political scandals surrounding Trump Administration figures having contact with the Ambassador, arguing that the whole tone of the accusations is troubling and rooted in conspiratorial thinking.
Regurgitating the ‘Red Scare’ is big business for the warmongering
Pentagon, with its crooks and thieves getting rich off the back
of ‘us’ USG taxpayers.
Putin is being demonized in like manner as Saddam Hussein, whom
supposedly had WMDs, mobile biological weapons labs, Anthrax, and
Atomic Bomb which he planned to ‘powder’ New York City. All these
ridiculous accusations were concocted by the ‘Israel First’ cabal,
parroted by flunkies in the Bush regime and the corporate MSM.
I expected to hear similar lies and subterfuge about Russia. The
USG Congress is a whorehouse for the Pentagon, while the corporate
MSM is its PR machine, churning out lies and pro-war propaganda.
As usual, the biggest loser is ‘us’ masses stuck with mounting debt
racked up by the Pentagon, and our young people being used as fodder
in its perpetual wars for profit.
The warmongering rhetoric would still be the same even if Clinton
was in the WH. Both parties are whores for the Pentagon, and aren’t
worth a damn to the average USG citizen.
Don’t mention the Israel Lobby
The Democrats jumped the shark on Russia. At some point soon, they’ll need help to walk it back. They’ll be willing because it has not worked for them as a tactic.
You couldn’t be more wrong on the anti-Russia tactic not working for the Dems.
It’s likely that your R partisan politics has made you crazy enough to believe that.
Seriously, come back over from the dark side and leave your domestic partisan politics there. There’s a bright light shining for you on the antiwar side!
A big necessary part of our mission is to destroy Trump but don’t get the idea that’s to give a leg up to the Dems. It’s to save the world!
The U.S. is projecting onto Putin, Russia, and Kislyak what the U.S. is guilty of itself. Remember when Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt and Victoria Nuland were caught conspiring as to who they would put in place to run things In the Ukraine after the U.S. sponsored coup there?
Paranoid thinking is the result of having done dirt to others and expecting them to do dirt to you in return.
The militarisation and warmongering always go together. As long as a lot of people are making their fortunes in this business, they will carry on with it.
I’m trying to further the notion that the MIC is secondary to the US cause. Help to make it that because if you don’t then it says that your cause is not primarily the antiwar cause. In fact, it would probably be more productive to our main cause if you temporarily dropped the MIC and the expense cause.
And yes, I appreciate the importance of it for Americans. It’s one of Trump’s main tactics that he’s used so successfully to grab the lowhanging fruit.
And look how that is panning out so far on military spending!
Here’s an opportunity to start a discussion that isn’t partial to either party:
Trump revived the old ‘Russia hating’ when he uttered a few words about better US/Russia relations during the campaign in order to grab the antiwar vote.
Clinton used the opportunity to react to that because she knew that she could attract more Americans by pushing hate of Putin and Russia.
And so it went, back and forth and escalated by Clinton because it was working for her. Trump literally dropped the idea because it was proving damaging to him. (and there was never any sincerity in it anyway)
After the campaign, the Dems got right into the issue of Putin/Russia because it has proven to be damaging to Trump. And it still is!
The issue will be defused for Trump when the Dems find a better issue on which to destroy Trump. (the wiretap lie shows a little promise but most likely not enough to take the place of Russia.
It’s going to take something big against Trump to take the place of Russia/Putin because it’s still got legs for the Dems.
What will it be? A possible idea is being raised by the Dems of an incident of police brutality against a black man or black men. Sessions will be incapable of reacting in the proper way and that could result in riots at a level that has never been seen to date. Trump will refuse to react accordingly in the appropriate way and a new cause against Trump will be born.
Any other ideas of how some new situation will develop that can take the place of Russia/Putin? Or is the Russia issue now cast in stone and we’ll have to get through another cold war in order to change anything?
Keeping in mind that the US now needs to keep Russia, China, and the Brics countries on the on the other side and be seen as evil. The big economic play is coming fast and it’s essential for the US future that the Brics aren’t dominant.
No. Clinton was bagging Russia and Putin long before Trump was the candidate. Hawkishness against Russia was a platform.
And Obama was happy to escalate her rhetoric with actions.
March 10, 2017 Our Age Of Folly
The United States has been growing progressively insane for a long time. For my generation, the realization descended upon us in the 1960s when the military/security complex convinced Americans that if we permitted Vietnamese nationalist leader Ho Chi Minh to unify Vietnam, the dominoes would fall until the Communist World Revolution had us in its grip.

Don’t tell me some commonsense is entering the debate, and that there are actually such people as US diplomats.
I sure won’t be telling you that but if you have some info to share on that happening, be sure to let us know. As for Michael McFaul, he’s a retired hawk who’s wound up by Maddow to repeat her talking point lies about Russia.
American stupidity in extreme.
What’s the problem if American politicians talking ng to Russian embassador? Are they mentally retarded that they will be reveiling secrets ?
So who is able to talk to embassador anyway?
Certainly not the President.
