Russian warplanes have begun their own bombing campaign in Syria today, with official statements saying they are targeting ISIS to prevent the group from taking over any more of Syria. Other rebel factions, however, claim they are being hit as well.
The Free Syrian Army (FSA) claims Russian warplanes attacked them in the countryside of the Hama Province, launching a number of missiles at their “headquarters” in the area, and wounding eight fighters. They insist that there is no ISIS presence anywhere around the targeted area.
US officials similarly reported that Russia attacked the western part of the nearby Homs Province, and protested that the area isn’t believed to have ISIS fighters either. This isn’t necessarily true, however, as ISIS is believed to be among the factions fighting over the area around Homs itself, and the group has a heavy presence across eastern Homs Province, including Tadmur.
US officials were said to be “furious” about Russia hitting the FSA rebels, who were heavily armed and backed by the US until they’d lost virtually all of their territory. British officials similarly issued a warning to Russia to leave the FSA alone.
The location of the attacks, while not precisely reported, suggests Russia’s early strategy in the air campaign is to shore up positions belonging to the Assad government, particularly the area that links Assad’s primary power base along the coast with the capital city of Damascus. Preventing the collapse of this supply route is likely seen as vital to buying them enough time to go after ISIS in earnest.
The FSA stands for Fictional Syrian Arrmy.
I thought that was "Fee" Syrian Army, since they don't work for free.
LOL. Yeah, that too.
When males of human animals are packing a gun ; while under the pay and at the whim of a invading force against their own or for that matter foreign peoples, when are such animals worthy of anything beyond a decent burial.
It is sad it cost so much in capital but then is that not but our national leaders cowardly ways, pay others for the gore so they can remain clean and out of way from backsplash of blood.
The capital they spend does not come from their earnings, far be it they could even see financial discomfort for their F’ups, no they spend the commoners money, and sell their futures by borrowing at usury, for the commoners decendents to payback,.
It has no morality or purpose it is a whim, ideas, muse, fantacy at no cost to the istigators.
The aftermath is of no concern for once they in power initiatean action they know the mass of humanity will find ways to profit off of that misery.
Washington is in a panic mode right now, but wait….Afghanistan in the 80’s how many Russian soldiers died by American weapons that was issued to Al-Qaeda.
Afghanistan in the 80's how many Russian soldiers died by American weapons that was issued to Al-Qaeda.
That was well deserved payback for the Soviets supplying weapons that killed Americans in Korea and Vietnam. Having written that, I am all for the Russians in Syria and wish them well.
I don't see any panic in Washington. The present situation suits them perfectly. Afghanistan and an arms race brought down the Soviet Union. Putin has now saddled himself with both. To say nothing of his economic problems. The only question is will he just bring himself down or will he take the whole Russian Federation down with him.
History aside
Today the US support of Syrian Opponents is a failure beyond measure and within weeks any US Terrorist group will be no longer
That is enough to Panic alright
whilst yo can continue your anti Russian rhetoric
Just from the searching I did on the internet, looks like the US has achieved the ultimate of ironies. I only looked at one town which was attacked by the Russians. Here it is:
"The U.S.-based think tank the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that the rebel-held town of Talbisah is controlled by the Nusra Front, Ahrar al-Sham, and a number of other local rebel groups. "
http://news.antiwar.com/2015/09/30/western-backed…
So the irony. The US is attacking Russia for bombing Al Queda in Syria. The US is giving these radical jihadist killers rhetorical cover by saying they are legitimate opposition to the Assad regime. I thought in time, the clusterf-king masters-of-the-universe machinations of the neocons would declare the enemy of my enemy, Russia and Syria, legitimate freedom fighters.
About link. I think antiwar.com substitutes links for no scamming. Can find the link by searching on the entire quote. But I found several sources which indicate that Talbisah is fundamentally controlled by the Nusrat Front.
Obama to Putin: "Hey, there are no ISIS fighters in the area you bombed"!
Putin: "You're welcome".
lol, good one.
*anndoc; Thank you for that quip and I unabashedly will pass it on to many others.
With credit to you, not I.
The FSA made it that far into Syria? I thought they gave up as soon as they crossed the border with Turkey.
The Free Syrian Army (FSA) aka the other radical islamic group paid for by the idiots in DC. Bomb them into the stone age Russia and fu to the instigators of the region, Obama.
FSA is on the Saudis-Wahhabis-Qatari payrolls so they cannot be called free army because they are not fighting for freedom but rather fighting for a foreign regimes, so are mercenaries paid by foreigners, from foreign countries.
Russia is there at Assad's request to save the government. The FSA, to the extent it exists, wants to overthrow Assad. Therefore, they are also the enemy to Russia also. What's hard to understand here?
Everybody understands that perfectly well. That's why it was so easy to manoeuvre Putin into the quagmire. He had to intervene no matter what the US said, so why help him by giving him US approval?
How much better could it get? Russia intervenes on its own account and gets into a fight with the US and, now, Britain. The Ukrainians must be laughing their heads off!
Why bury them? Buzzard's gotta eat, same as the worm.
