The Obama Administration continues to reiterate its narrative on what happened to Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 with more certainty (and often different details) every day, but there is a stark lack of evidence, beyond a handful of “authenticity could not be verified” images floating around on social media.
With Russia denying the allegations, the US must have some really damning evidence to be so certain, right? Just so, insists the State Department, just don’t ask them to show any of it.
Defending the charges at today’s press briefing in an increasingly testy exchange with reporters, State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf referred the press to social media, while reiterating that there was actually much better evidence out there that they just can’t see.
When pressed on the array of theories on social media, and why the US is embracing just the one, Harf insisted that none of the other theories made any sense, because the State Department totally knows it was Russia’s fault.
When pressed further on Russia’s denial, Harf turned visibly hostile toward the press members at the briefing, angrily insisting that it was unfair for the media to even consider Russian statements that contradict the State Department, when everyone is supposed to know the US is more credible. When pressed further on that line of reasoning, Harf angrily barked “I’m not even dignifying that question with a response.”
They're hiring some semi-cute lying bimbos as of late, aren't they? Glad to see that reporter are finally, after what, more than a decade, growing some gonads and giving these serial liars a hard time.
You wish.
Okay, I get the lying, but I'm not seeing the cute anywhere.
That's not really a good photo of Ms. Harf; she's actually quite attractive. Too bad she was unwise in her choice of current employment; she's probably tanked her future prospects.
HARF! Excuse me for just a moment, I've got to spit a lunger.
How dare anyone question Obama regime? Especially while the stupid freaks are still trying ever so hard to get the story straight.
"Defending the charges at today’s press briefing in an increasingly testy exchange with reporters, State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf referred the press to social media, while reiterating that there was totally better evidence out there that they just can’t see."
You have to just marvel at the similarity of this to last years "Assad used sarin on his own people" BS.
As far as the testy exchange, hopefully this is a sign that maybe, just maybe even some of the stenographers in the corporate media are sick and tired of the lies and BS. We can always hope.
Could it be that these Journalists have realized picking a life and death spat with the bear, could actually mean that Americans at home on their own soil will suffer warfare that previously they have only inflicted on others. Just think it only takes ONE warhead from one missile to take out NYC or worse where they actually are DC, and despite the rhetoric Russia has quite a few missiles operative, and if those missiles start being cooked off China has 100 or so Long range warheads plus the odd one or two dozen medium range missiles (for Japan)! America is no longer playing poke the bear with a country that has no ability to retaliate, like Iraq or Afghanistan and remember they took years to LOSE those wars, Will we be seeing the Second great Russian patriotic war! By the way Ukraine has four regiments of the missile alleged to have been used to shoot down the airliner, one was left in the rebels Oblast, but there were three others still in Ukraine territory! If it is Russia's fault because they sold the missiles to the Ukraine Government, does that mean that the US is responsible for all the deaths because ISIS has used US equipment left behind by fleeing Iraqi military!
Does not surprise me at all that they’d be hostile. I’ve watched the Russian military press conference with the satellite images and wondered why the Pentagon has not issued a counter- conference…if they have “proof” why are they hiding it? Maybe the evidence points to Ukraine? There’s a major cover up here.
Psaki says 'Don't bother us with facts. They are too complicated"
The USA wants to blame Putin because they do not want anyone to be aware that they started this whole conflict by providing financial support to the opposition . . . . that deposed a democratically elected leader via a coup d'état . . . . Where have we heard of this happening before? Well, the best known instance of the USA doing this was the 1953 Iranian coup d'état, the overthrow of the democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran Mohammad Mosaddegh on 19 August 1953, but that is not the only, by a longshot.
Do a search for "USA: 5 Billion to Ukraine Recently". It will take you to a video of Victoria Nuland, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs at the United States Department of State, admitting it. Note the Chevron symbol in the background of the video.
It's amazin' how the most powerful country in the world thinks that hiring experience–lite wanna-be political hacks to mouth the current talking points is a good thing. Looking at her wiki (I know, I know) CV shows that she has little experience other than standing in front of a podium telling the media what to write. And if the press should…well, press…a little, then because there isn't anything beyond the talking points, outrage that the talking points should be questioned is the fallback position.
The media is at fault, to some degree, for the government to tell them to check out "social media." Because the press have allowed themselves to be repurposed into stenographers relying on "social media" as sources of and instead of real sources of information.
And RickR30, I don't have the faith you seem to have that this line of questioning power is indicative of a sea change in press behavior. Perhaps it's just wishful thinking but the I'm not optimistic.
"Don't you get it?!? WE will tell you what to think. That's our job! We're the @#$%ing government! You don't think for yourself. Just BELIEVE what we say, dammit. If we tell you two plus two equals five, @#%$ing believe it, and report that to those dumb sheep, because we need them to pay the bills and breed more soldiers if we are going to force the world back onto the US dollar to save the banks! What is WRONG with you people? God didn't give you a brain so you could actually USE it!!" — Official White Horse Souse
(ahem)
It should be clear from the MH17 hoax that the US Government still does not fully comprehend that the tactics that worked in the 1950s and 1960s are hopelessly obsolete in the age of the internet.
This is actually a good thing, because the more they play these propaganda stunts and fall flat on their face, the quicker they hasten their own collapse, sending the US Government into the dustbin of history along with that other cold-war fossil, the USSR.
"Trust our secret evidence"….Hmmm, when have we heard that befo0re?
USG not only have any evidence to prove anything but by referring to social media they washing their hands of any proof. The state departments employees until few months back they didn't know where Ukraine was, but now they have all the phony social media proof to prove that they have their proof by referring to social media as their proof. Barack Hussein Obama foreign policies in Ukraine has failed, people understand that he was phony, by now they know that he is not trust worthy at all, question is if us Democratic Party members and those who blindly supports the party just because its called democratic understand the facts that USG is not about democracy at home nor its foreign engagement is about democracy, look at Israel killing frenzy of Palestinians, Syria, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan and Ukraine, everywhere you look you are facing either Islamic fascism or modernized fascism know end as Neo fascism.
Anybody who believes anything that the US government says has, at best, not been paying attention. At worst, they should not be allowed out in public without close adult supervision.
Come on Jason, it's all true. Obama wouldn't lie to us. Everyone knows that.
from all the comments above it doesn't sound like many antiwar readers trust the United States government. What if the entire country feels this same way . You would think the war parties might be about done . But what options do we have , Obama was our most peacfull candidate
Not true: even Pat Buchanan and Ron Paul sound a lot more reasonable than Obama now.
The whole thing stinks of "solid" proof that Iraq has WMD we heard so much about not too long ago. It is an obvious bluff and BS, an attempt to defend fascist government in Kiev that actually shot down this plane, which US brought to power.
good griefyou give him one inch of rope and hangs himself. how can they expect the American people to believe anything anymore without some tangible proof after the Iraqi debacle.
What happened to Jen Psaki?
