The Free Syrian Army (FSA) hasn’t even close to finished with its goal of taking over Syria, but the rebel faction is looking to move into cross-border entanglements in the next few days, threatening attacks on Lebanon if Hezbollah doesn’t back off in their border dispute.
The dispute on the Syria-Lebanon border has been growing over the past few days, with Hezbollah and FSA fighters killing one another in disputes over a number of border villages, nominally on the Syrian side but populated mostly Lebanese Shi’ites who have sought Hezbollah help in keep the mostly Sunni rebels out.
Hezbollah has been mostly mum on the matter, confirming the clashes but not really elaborating on what they believe the endgame will be. The rebels have responded with more and more bellicose proclamations, and even accused Hezbollah of an “invasion.”
In the end it is unlikely Hezbollah is going to back down over the villages, which the FSA has ordered evacuated, but exactly how much of an attack the FSA can launch across border remains to be seen. The FSA was at one point fueling sectarian fighting in Lebanon’s far north however, and limited moves aimed at kickstarting more internal Lebanese strife are more likely than a cross-border attacks in force.
They have learned their lesson from that Israeli war junky…, give me more or I start bombing Iran.., these bandits are saying.., arm me or I will start widening this war into Lebanon.., their next request is much bigger.., give me more money and more arm or I will start a war.., somewhere…, in Europe.., after all they are from all over Europe.., sent there by the Saudis and UAE to be educated.., with a diploma in terrorism.
When the west stops paying the rebels they will turn on western governments. They have been recruited and armed so they will be very lethal when they arrive in Europe or the USA. You can be sure they will not attack Israel. Israel starts problems that they get paid to join into.
Rebels not Sun Tzu wise… He advises not to open new fronts that can't be quickly consolidated… and won't drag on. Hesbolah is serious, has long existing logistics and they are battle hardened… Aren't the rebels busy enough? or are they looking for new and formidable adversaries?
They undoubtedly view it more from a political than a military point of view, and consider conflict with Hezbollah, with its strong ties to Iran, to be valuable in terms of increasing US support. You can be certain they'll avoid full-scale hostilities with Hezbollah. Much of the top "FSA" leadership are former regime operatives who view their "rebellion" as fast-tracking career advancement.
Kind of proves the "rebels" are really unofficial nato aka oldcolonial powers soldiers. I wonder how many are idf members?
To Hell with these Syrian "rebel" terrorists.
Zionist fingerprints behind all the problems…from Chechena, Libya, now Syria…
All these wars is nothing more then "Mankind strugle against well organized Internacional Zionism and its only spoiled child, place called Israel".
The very moment World starts colapsing behind control, the very moment US faits for its own survival and US patriots take control over their country – that moment Humanity will wage just war against Zionism in 4 corners…..Evil will be defeated forever and those days will mark R O A D of Universal Peace….
Who predicted colapse of Soviet Union? Nothing is imposible, even Israels reign of terror will end one day soon. And if not people, certainly God will strike his adversary / Satans Seed/ as promised in scriptures… peter czech
Many good comments on the excellent article…….. Rebels making Hitler Russia mistake….. A weak force needs to lessen areas of conflict, not take on new 1s……
if they want war with hezbollah they will lose badly. somebody would have to help them with logistics and air cover, which means a wider war
