The Syrian military is rushing a large number of troops and dozens of tanks to the northern city of Aleppo, the largest city in the nation, as fighting with the rebels continues to intensify. Rebels say they are deploying more fighters to the city too.
This has many predicting one of the most important battles of the nascent civil war is soon to be fought in the city, with both sides hoping to deliver a knockout blow to the other in a city that has only been part of the fighting for the past week.
The city is enormously important to both sides, with the rebels having designs on it being “their Benghazi,” reflecting the desire to turn their own civil war into a Libya redux. Its loss would secure a territory for the rebels to call their own, and would probably increase foreign aid to them.
The Free Syrian Army (FSA) now claims to “control” 70 percent of Aleppo, but the ability to maintain that control is very much in doubt. Past rebel offensives to capture large portions of important cities have often given way to counter-offensives by the military which retook most of the territory.
So the 'peaceful protesters' collectively known as the "Free Syrian Army" now 'claim' they "control" "70 percent of Aleppo"? Right….
The 'peaceful protesters' don't even control Homs…. Wouldn't it be more logical for the 'peaceful protesters' to make Homs (the 3rd largest City in Syria) “their Benghazi,” if this was their objective and something they could actually accomplish–seeing as this is where most of the fighting has taken place for the last 17 months and all??? Why would they need to start anew in Aleppo? Is the distinction between the largest City and 3rd largest 'City' of any significance to foreign powers?
I'm sorry, but coming through the mountains into a few impoverished neiborhoods on the 'outskirts' of Aleppo and proceeding to run down the street chanting "Allahu Akbar …Allahu Akbar …Allahu Akbar " every 5 seconds while firing Ak-47s at security forces and helicopters and, at the same time, rounding up civilians in these 'neighborhoods' on the 'outskirts' of the City, and once in a while striking a pose and/or doing a dance in front of camera phones is not "control" of City with a population of over 2 million people….

This is absurd–the level of which is comparable to idea put forward in the run up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq that: "the Iraqi people will greet 'us' as liberators" and batter invading US troops with flowers and kisses…
What is the Syrian media saying about this…oh yeah…Sana has mysteriously been down ever since the "UN Resolution" put forward by 'Western' powers was vetoed by Russia and China last week…so access to that 'side' is apparently unavailable….
(eyes rolling…)
this is just theater dramaturgy to let it appear a natural revolt.
The real story is this:
This USA war against Syria, is a fake "humanitarian war" and work this way:
Sending with Saudi kings help Islamist death squads to Syria, blame the government murderer using Qatari dictator newspaper Al Jazeera etc., call the death squads freedom figthers, which than gain victory with NATO airforce by carpet bombing any resitance.

It is just a Special Forces Unconventional Warfare (UW):
The intent of U.S. Unconventional Warfare efforts is to exploit a hostile power’s political, military, economic, and psychological vulnerabilities by developing and sustaining resistance forces to accomplish U.S.strategic objectives." or: "There is another type of warfare —new in its intensity, ancient in its origin— war by guerrillas, subversives, insurgents, assassins; war by ambush instead of by combat, by infiltration instead of aggression, seeking victory by eroding and exhausting the enemy instead of engaging him. It preys on unrest."

Imagine what happens when this US-proxy-guerrilla-killers occupy Aleppo with these people who are all supporting Assad and the Syrian government?! ->
How to make a choice between Assad and his opponents as an outsider in this conflict already raging for two years? The question is, what can be still called a military action on both sides and what not? From a purely military point of view it is understandable that for an attack on Aleppo by regime forces from the south the villages in the southern region must be depopulated and destroyed to let tanks pass unhindered and to install artillery batteries with a free range to shell the city.
To start with, these villages were neither in the hands of batallions of the Free Syrian Army, nor in the hands of the Government Forces. All villages were occupied by both villagers and fugitives who intentionally had fled from the war zones! So to say that on 24 June 2013 the village of Mazraa was "stormed" by Hezbollah and Assad troops is rather exaggerated, to say the very least. The women were raped, children, their fathers and elderly people murderd by bullets and knives (at least 50 persons), the houses and corpses set on fire, and the latter ones thrown in to the water wells of the village to make the water undrinkable.
Of course, this massacre was meant to set an example and to make the inhabitants of the other, surrounding war-free villages to flee away as far as possible, but is was also a tremendous war crime ordered by Assad on the part of Hezbollah and Assad troops, and in no way a.military action.
So the governments of the Western world and of the Arabian peninsula should for just humanitarian reasons from 24 June 2013 onwards supply the Free Syrian Army with the best weapons they can miss, but, as always, they won't do so for political reasons (because Putin will not agree).
After Mazraa, I, a Dutch ousider then 72 of age, shall travel in the autumn of 2014 to Aleppo, if still out of reach of Hezbollah and Assad´s murderous troops, just to help the wounded in the still not-shelled hospitals of this poor, poor city.
