A new statement from the Chinese military suggests that the ongoing dispute over maritime rights in the South China Sea is getting worse, with the state media warning that the dispute could lead to a military confrontation.
The latest source of tensions is an upcoming US-Philippines naval drill in the area. The Philippines are one of several nations that have disputes with China over the region, and the US has been loudly backing all the non-Chinese powers in the region.
This comes just over a week after Philippines warships attempted to capture a number of Chinese fishing ships, leading to a standoff with Chinese ships that rushed to the scene during the attempted raid.
The Obama Administration has been keen to increase military ties in the area, with Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta saying that it was crucial that the US “remains a Pacific power” in the coming decades, and that China’s growing naval power threatens commerce in the region, even though there’s been no indication China is actually stopping any commerce by claiming empty islands.
china would lay waste to the us military period. they can sink us aircraft carriers, and have the firepower to destroy anything the us attemps to throw at them. the us should know its limitations by now, but it does'nt.
The US policy is to allow no country to have even the potential to challenge its power. That means China would have to accept poverty, a much lower per capita GDP than that of the developed world.
China. cannot accept that.

A military confrontation with China over some empty islands in the South China seas would be almost as stupid as it is disasterous. The Chinese are our bankers and have it in thier power to destroy the dollar. Many hard pressed Americans are dependant upon cheap Chinese imports just to survive. On top of all this China is a nuclear power. The USG's China Policy with respect to the South China Seas is just as stupid and senselsss if it not more so than its warmongering policy towards Iran.
The US again stirring up trouble and trying to provoke China using intimidation methods. One day China will get it's fill of Washington's BS and we will see if the US Navy is everything they tell us it is. Another instance of a failing Amerika grasping at every opportunity to display the one thing they have left…military power.
True.
If China had staged naval maneuvers in the South China Sea with another far-off country, the American media would be full of blather about China stoking tensions and being a threat to the right of free passage in those seas, but when we do the ratcheting up of tensions and stick our nose AGAIN into a geographical area that rightfully should be none of our business, we try to paint China as the bogeyman.
america is getting run out of almost every country that they invade all that is left is a large military which soon enough will be downsided due to failing economic times.
Would it not contribute to a more peaceful world if the US did not meddle in the dispute between China and its neighbors?
Would you get your long nose out of everyone’s business, puleeeze?
