Speaking today to the public inquiry into Britain’s involvement in the 2003 invasion of Iraq, British Foreign Secretary David Miliband defended the war on the basis that he believes Arab nations really “respected” the fact that after Britain and the US repeatedly threatened invasion, they eventually followed through.
Miliband claimed that starting the ill-advised war on false pretexts, sparking a civil war which has killed hundreds of thousands of civilians, was the right thing to do and “really sent a message” that Britain means it when it says its going to do something.
Miliband also chastised the United Nations for “feeble” attempts to convince Saddam Hussein’s government to give up its weapons of mass destruction, though of course after the invasion it was discovered that Iraq had none.
He cautioned against learning the “wrong lessons” from the war and insisted that Britain needed to remain commited to global intervention, and that it should be willing to launch similar wars in the future.
And the Empire comes rolling back…
Very scary, what's this world comming too!,what a cave man!
Yes indeed, what a arrogant jumped up little murdering twit. What about some respect for the over one hundred thousand iraqi dead!.what a sicko,a man out of time and out of his mind!
Mr. Milibrand needs to loosen his tie. If one knots a tie too tight, circulation to the brain suffers–
not as much as the Iraqis, but somehow I don't think that would trouble Mr. Milibrand.
Quite simply, Millibrand is a sociopath. When men of Millibrand’s character gravitate to the top of any society, it is time for that society to disappear from impeding human evolution.
What kind of a person who would “respect”destruction of any counrty let, alone an historically important country to the Arabs as Iraq. Now its either Miliband is stupid or he is ridiculing his audience.
I'm an Arab. I don't feel any kind particular respect for what the UK and US did to Iraq. So, Miliband is wrong again.
The tired old strategy of never admitting that you were wrong, even when the evidence is overwhelming.
As a person of English descent, I am somewhat saddened to see my ancestral homeland guided by violent foreigners such as this Zionist jew. To think that our government is run in the interests of another country. It's time to take send these horrid little traitors packing.
I'd sure like some of whatever Milipede has been smoking…..
You are hearing a young stupid man who is belongs to what is called Neo-Fascism.., what is wrong with this is that they present themselves as a political wing of Labors in England, not only they are not presenting the working people but they do present the Monarchism, the Central Bank of England, the British Petroleum and other thieves helping them as a government. These people are paid to do just what they been asked for them to do for these companies of charlatans‘. he doesn’t care about how many Iraqis are killed but rather thinks about his pensions and all the other benefits that his getting when he is no longer speaking for the government.
Jason:
I have a lot of respect for you and your work, but you've allowed a significant piece of war propaganda about "weapons of mass destruction" to slip into your comment here:
How could it have been "discovered," post invasion, that there were no "weapons of mass destruction" when it was thought all along, pre-invasion, that Saddam Hussein had none? The way you have written this reinforces the lie that Bush and Blair sincerely believed Hussein had such weapons, that such weapons were a threat to the world, and acted to rid the world of that threat. Most of the evidence indicates they didn't really believe Saddam actually had those weapons. Saddam himself denied it and the weapons teams backed him on that.
So you would be better to write: "though of course after the invasion it was CONFIRMED that Saddam had none."
Also, "weapons of mass destruction" is a propaganda slogan that should probably remain in quotation marks in any writing by an objective journalist.
tell it to the dead
