A few days after Israel’s Environmental Protection Ministry accused Iran of deliberately dumping oil off Israel’s coast, Israeli military officials are saying they don’t have evidence to back up the claim.
On Friday, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said there’s currently no evidence to conclude that the oil spill was done on purpose. “I can’t completely rule out that it was deliberate, but at this stage, we can’t determine that it was done on purpose,” he said.
Israeli TV reported on Friday that so far, Israel’s military and intelligence agencies are still investigating the spill but have so far found no evidence that it was deliberate “environmental terrorism.” Military and intelligence officials challenged the claim almost immediately after it was made.
Israeli Environmental Protection Minister Gila Gamliel first made the accusation on Wednesday. She said a Libyan-owned ship sailed from Iran before dumping oil off Israel’s coast. In the face of criticism, Gamliel has continued to defend the claim.
Gamliel also serves in the Knesset and is a member of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud Party. Her accusation could be an effort to gain political favor of Netanyahu, who likes to blame Iran for just about any incident in the region.
Defending the claim in an interview on Thursday, Gamliel said, “only Netanyahu knows how to deal with the Iranian threat properly.” So far, Netanyahu has not commented on Gamliel’s accusation.
Just the sort of thing that makes everybody love Israel.
Israel doesn’t need your favors.
I can’t even find out how extensive the oil spill was. One story claimed the entire coastline of Israel but that would also hit Gaza and Southern Lebanon, two of Iran’s allies. But I suppose they would use the meme of the suicide bomber to explain that, even though Hezbollah does not use suicide bombers.
The goal is to put the bullsh*t out there and see if it sticks. If it’s later proved to be false, the damage has already been done. Retractions are far less read than the original bullsh*t. In 5 years from now the Hasbara trolls will still be talking about the “environmental disaster” that Iran carried out against Israel.
Heard on I128 news it was 124 kilometers/ or miles not sure which.
“On Friday, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said there’s currently no evidence to conclude that the oil spill was done on purpose. “I can’t completely rule out that it was deliberate, but at this stage, we can’t determine that it was done on purpose,” he said.”
In other words Benny is saying that they know damn well it wasn’t done deliberately but why not leave that lingering thought that Iran was responsible. Never turn down the opportunity for more propaganda.
Heads I win tails I win, I’m going to start worrying if something fair comes out our mouth about Israel.
Glad to see you included yourself with “our”.
Thanks for catching that, of course I meant you. Actually Israel benefits from its haters, because the more the hate the more support comes from those who love the Jewish people and Israel.
