A French official said on Tuesday that Iran must return to compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal before the Biden administration lifts sanctions and returns to the agreement, known as the JCPOA.
The comments came from a French presidential official who spoke to reporters on the condition of anonymity.
“If they are serious about negotiations and if they want to obtain a re-engagement of all the stakeholders in the JCPOA, they firstly need to refrain from further provocations and secondly respect what they no longer respect, that’s to say their obligations,” the official said.
The comments came after President Biden spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday. During their phone conversation, the two leaders discussed Iran and the JCPOA and agreed to coordinate on the issue moving forward.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif hit back at the French comments on Twitter and reiterated Iran’s stance. “Why on earth should Iran — a country that stood firm & defeated 4 years of a brutal US economic terrorism imposed in violation of JCPOA & UNSC Resolution — show goodwill gesture first?” Zarif wrote.
“It was the US that broke the deal — for no reason. It must remedy its wrong; then Iran will respond,” he added.
Writing in Foreign Affairs last week, Zarif called on President Biden to unconditionally lift sanctions on Iran if he is serious about salvaging the JCPOA.

Macron, like Biden, is under orders from the Zionists, Israeli and domestic. The thing is so manifestly preposterous, so gangster style thuggish, it takes a special type of craven to brazen it out, …especially while the US and Frank pop. are with Iran.

It is not quite clear — is France in a difficult situation, or is Macron an exceptionally poor politician? He made shambles out an attempt to define Islam as religion in crisis, and got slammed by Erdogan. Afterwards, Macron went on an apology tour of the Middle East, gave a groveling interview in Al-Jazeera .
Here he goes again. Suggesting that Iran — after taking steps which were PERMITTED by the Agreement should US violate agreement — is the one to be chastised. And there is no greater violation then US unilateral pulling out, thus violating UN resolution as well.
So, Macron is making a fool of himself again by articulating US narrative — namely that Iran must be in compliance PRIOR to “negotiating”. Negotiating for what? Biden could not come up with anything new — and made Macron just rephrase Trump demand to “renegotiate”!
And Macron is to be the sad messenger.
Again, is France really so weakened, so concerned that it will be overshadowed by Germany in EU that it needs to perform dumb services?
But if Macron wants to be US spokesperson, he must be more careful. He does not need another apology tour.
France is still suffering from Napoleontalism.
That’s impossible because one of the sanctions prohibited Russia from supplying Iran with enriched uranium at 4.5% that they needed for fuel.
A reasonable process would be for the U.S. to lift all sanctions and for Iran to agree to a timeline to go back to their 2015 state.
This is what Iran is suggesting.
As expected … the satraps have been called to service. Normality is being restored. Quite why these EU weaklings have not figured out that the empire is falling apart and they need to look elsewhere for a boss is not clear.

Good one, Wars. Reminds me of when they asked someone there who on the US side they would target to avenge Soleimani’s murder. The answer was that there was no one close to his caliber available on the US side :). So they thought best thing to do would be to focus on kicking the whole country out of Iraq.
France still thinks it’s a colonial power in the Middle East, sticking their nose in an area that is none of their business.
Iran is correct, and the USA needs to remove all sanctions (illegal anyway) and be ready if it wants to re-enter the deal it broke on a whim.
