In what could be one of his final moves against Beijing and US companies that like to do business with China, President Trump reportedly revoked export licenses from US firms that sell supplies to the Chinese tech firm Huawei.
Sources told Reuters that the Trump administration notified the Huawei suppliers it was revoking the licenses, including the US chipmaker Intel.
According to an email seen by Reuters, the Semiconductor Industry Association said on Friday that the US Commerce Department was planning “to deny a significant number of license requests for exports to Huawei and a revocation of at least one previously issued license.” The sources told Reuters that more than one license was revoked.
Huawei is included on a US government list of firms that are allegedly tied to China’s military. The blacklist requires US companies to obtain export licenses to sell to the listed firms. China hawks in Congress have complained to the Commerce Department that licenses were being issued too freely.
The move against Huawei is the latest in a series of hardline China policies the Trump administration is implementing in its final days. Recent actions have included sanctions on Chinese officials and expanding trade and export blacklists.

So China will have to create some new (unlisted) firms, which would sustain the US exporters and still give Huawei what it needs. Iran can provide advice on how to do it, based on forty years experience with US sanctions.
Trump seems to be doing his damnedest to destroy the US tech industry, including but not limited to CPU makers.
