A U.S. official said “there are no gaps between the U.S. and Israel” regarding the negotiations with Iran and denied that Israel is pressuring the Obama administration to be tough on Iran.
“There are no gaps between the U.S. and Israel in anything related to talks between Iran and the six world powers over the future of Iran’s nuclear program,” the U.S. official said, remaining anonymous.
The Israeli leadership has taken a hard line on the issue of Iran’s nuclear program, threatening war and demanding Iran stop all enrichment, but the U.S. official denied this pushed the Obama administration to a harder line. “We are the ones who are pressuring ourselves because we see a nuclear Iran as a real danger to global security, and not because of Israel, ” he said.
Foreign policy hawks in both the U.S. and Israel used to focus their rhetoric about Iran’s nuclear program on preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. After it became undeniable that Iran’s program was entirely peaceful in nature, the hawks shifted their demand to stopping Iran from enriching any uranium for any nuclear program, civilian or otherwise.
Iran has every right to enrich uranium on its soil, as a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and it has become a matter of national pride. The West’s absurd and relatively new demand that Iran halt all enrichment is in fact what caused the most recent sit down for talks in Baghdad to pass without an agreement.
Aside from offering ridiculous demands they were certain Iran would reject, Western leaders also rejected the Iranian request for an immediate easing of harsh economic sanctions in return for promises to give wider access to U.N. inspectors.
The talks were portrayed as positive, despite the failure to reach a final agreement. The P5+1 and Iran will meet again next month in Moscow.
But the Iranian perspective is apparently less satisfied with the progress. “I think it was a complete failure, in terms of content,” said an Iranian diplomat inside the talks. “The more they talk, the worse it gets,” he added.
Israel- I mean, the US- has no intention of negotiating in good faith with Iran, or making any concessions whatsoever. This entire set-up is frighteningly reminiscent of Roosevelt's goading the Japanese for years until they had no choice but to strike the US or face economic ruin- and we know how well that turned out for thousands of young Americans and Japanese. Israel wants this war so badly, but it is unwilling- and unable- to prosecute the war themselves so they are pulling out all the stops to place the US as the driving force behind all of this.
I have said it before and I will repeat it until the issue is resolved: Israel has no standing to speak on any matter relating to any nation's nuclear program, civil or military, and will have no such credentials to speak until they comply with the same inspection regimes and protocols they are demanding of Iran. If I were the lead Iranian negotiator, I would bring this up at every opportunity and make EVERYTHING dependent upon Israel matching them signature for signature on every nuclear agreement and protocol. Any nation that give Israel a voice- directly or indirectly- in any nuclear discussion is guilty of gross hypocrisy and is without honor.
When do you know an American official is lying? When he opens his mouth.
I just think it totally anti semtic to believe that the chosen would push to have our kids go fight in a battle that they push for. Why would they do that since they are better than everyone else. If you do not believe that just ask one.
Personally I feel we should give Israel the chance to be all that it can and just go home. I think when they are not funded they will not be as quick to grab others lands which is clearly the case in the west bank.
The USA is the problem because they have allowed Israel to not risk its kid so they except only the profits from any conflict they push. If anyone believes that Israel with 300 nuclear bombs cares that in 5 years Iran might have a couple they are just dumb.
The US is the problem, we have a bunch of chosen ones in Washington, whose allegiance is not to this country, and their allegiance is not to just Israel.
“The more they talk, the worse it gets”
Surely, for Empire USA can achieve security only by expansion, can only expand by brutal imperialism and their talk is nothing but illusions of good to expedite the dropping of bombs and speed up the expansion.
"Anonymous US official" is as full of sh*t as would be the proverbial Christmas goose. "No gaps between US and Israel" regarding Iran? My my, is that disconcerting or what. I agree with John_Muhammad, Israel holds NO standing to make demands of the Iranians and neither does the US.
However in post 9/11 Bizarro World, all sane bets are off.
Of course there’s no gap between Israel and America as America is a big Israel. In reality America is run by dual national Israelis. Just Google “Obama’s Jewish Cabinet” and you will see names and pictures of 33 of them.
Does Hilary Clinton really expect Iran to stop enrichment for peaceful purposes? Has she any say in the matter? Please America, show some degree of compentence when it comes to diplomacy and respect for the existing international laws. The USA now has demonstrated that they are prepared to perform any extrajudicial execution they deem fit, to violate any sovereign border when it is to their advantage and rewrite any existing international law for the sake of their clients. Why not start enforcing the UN Secrurity Council resolutions dealing with Israel and show that you want to be a good international partner of peace?
Does anyone, anywhere, actually believe this? Who are they kidding?
