Iran will never seek nuclear weapons, declared Iran’s Supreme Leader in Tehran on Wednesday in a meeting with the director and officials of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.
“The Iranian nation has never pursued and will never pursue nuclear weapons,” said Ayatollah Khamenei amid calls from some hawks in Israel and the U.S. to attack Iran for its nuclear enrichment, which they allege is for nuclear weapons.
“There is no doubt,” Khamenei said, “that the decision makers in the countries opposing us know well that Iran is not after nuclear weapons because the Islamic Republic, logically, religiously and theoretically, considers the possession of nuclear weapons a grave sin and believes the proliferation of such weapons is senseless, destructive and dangerous.”
Indeed, there is broad consensus within the military and intelligence community in the U.S. that Iran is not developing nuclear weapons and has demonstrated no intention of doing so. Despite this, rabid calls for war have continued from hawkish politicians and especially from the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Various U.S. officials, from Defense Secretary Leon Panetta to Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, have cautioned against any preemptive strike on Iran. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey said an attack would be “not prudent.”
Israeli leaders, meanwhile, have berated these statements, complaining U.S. officials speaking publicly about their reluctance to start a war with Iran ”served Iran’s interests.” The pro-war hawks continue to push the narrative that Iran’s leaders are religious fanatics who would risk suicide by actually launching one of their nonexistent nuclear weapons on Israel.
But Director of National Intelligence James Clapper testified before Congress that “we continue to judge Iran’s nuclear decision-making is guided by a cost-benefit approach.” Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency General Ron Burgess told Congress that “the agency assesses Iran is unlikely to initiate or provoke a conflict.” So far, this hasn’t been enough for those intent on another unprovoked war in the Middle East.
John.., stop calling these elements of distractions Hawks, they are not even a yellow tail, they are chicken all right because if they were Hawks then they would do the job themselves sending their children to start a war, not using Al Queda but sending their family members instead. These people are the servant to that 1% so is the US and EU political gigolos, selling themselves to higher bider, or those who only go by the name democrat making money out of any war.
It's one thing to be against being pushed into war for Israeli interests, and another to be stupid enough to actually believe what the Iranians say. Being either is dangerous.
The only danger that Iran presents is to US hegemony, and the petrodollar. They are now trading in currencies that are specific to the country they are trading with. The dollar is no longer used which has the oil companies, and US government in a panic. Iran's oil bourse opens march 20th. It is nice to see someone teaching Uncle Sam a lesson.
Just because the governments of the Americans (and Brits and Germans and French and Canadians…and Israelis) have a long, very long historical record of lying to their people does not mean that everyone does so. Care to educate me on specific examples of the religious hierarchy of Iran lying to their people?
So you will without question believe US/UK/Israeli serial liars instead?
I love it. How many times do these simple morons have to be hit over the head with unending, easily disproven beforehand BS until they wake up?
Hey stupid…remember that Iraqi WMD lie? It didn't come from Teheran.
*Brainwashing sequence complete*
Israel has been crying exiatantial threats feom Iran fir decades. Are we to believe Israelis?
Well, if it's true they do not seek weapons, then why do they need weapons-grade uranium? You only use weapons-grade uranium for one purpose. Secondly, if there's no weapons program, why all the secrecy? Why risk starting a war?
So…
1) What makes you think they "need weapons-grade uranium"? Says who?
2) What kind of "secrecy" are we talking about? Is the IAEA complaining that it's not being left in?
Next on this channel: Israel signs NPT treaty, lets international inspectors check random military installations that have nothing to do with nukes. Film at 11.
Where is the weapons-grade uranium? They're not buying from anyone else, and they lack the enrichment capability to get their own stocks to weapons-grade, even if they wanted to!
On the other hand, ask these SAME questions of Israel and it's secretly-not-secret nuclear arsenal and see how far THAT flies. When was the last time an IAEA inspector checked out any of Israel's nukes- when was the last time they ratified any protocols?
There is no weapons grade uranium – and they only started enriching to 20% after they were denied isotopes for their cancer patients.
As for denying access to military facilities – its just common sense and NATIONAL SECURITY. Its well known that there are spies in the IAEA. And granting wily-nily access to your military research sites is sheer stupidity. Its not covered by the NPT and no other nation grants that level of access.
