Trump Says US ‘Not Negotiating’ With Iran, Something Will Happen ‘Fairly Soon’

The US president said that 'most people seem to think' it will happen after the midterms

President Trump told reporters on Wednesday night that the US was “not negotiating” with Iran and that something would be happening “fairly soon,” one of his latest vague threats against the Islamic Republic.

Trump made the comments at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, after returning from a rally in South Carolina with former professional boxer Evander Holyfield.

“We have a little conflict against Iran. I think I’ll send Evander ‘the Real Deal’ over there,” he said, gesturing toward Holyfield. “But we’re doing very well militarily and financially against Iran.”

When asked about negotiations, Trump said, “We are not negotiating… something one way or another, and it’ll happen fairly soon. Most people seem to think it’s after the election; we will see what happens.”

The New York Times reported on Wednesday that the US and Israel have drawn up plans to bomb Iran after the November 3 US midterm elections and that the targets would likely include energy infrastructure, nuclear facilities, and Iran’s missiles and drones.

There have also been signs that an attack could come before the October 27 Knesset elections in Israel. According to a report from Axios, Israel flew dozens of fighter jets near the Iranian border on Monday, and US officials were left with the impression that Israel was attempting to provoke an Iranian response.
