The US military has identified the third soldier killed by an Iranian missile attack in Jordan on July 17 as Iran continues targeting US bases across the region, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it inflicted more US casualties.
The soldier, Sgt. Angel Rampersad, 28, of Ozone Park, New York, was initially reported as missing, but remains have been found that are believed to be hers. The remains of the three soldiers killed in Jordan and one killed in Iraq on July 18 arrived in the US on Wednesday during a dignified transfer ceremony at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, which President Trump attended.
Trump claimed that the soldiers had said Iran “cannot have a nuclear weapon,” though there was no evidence that Tehran was pursuing a nuclear bomb either before the June 2025 war or the current war that the US and Israel launched on February 28.
“We’re going to Dover,” Trump told reporters during the transfer, according to CBS News. “Some of you are going with us, to honor our heroes, and they are indeed great heroes, actually. They said, and they — all of them said very strongly — we can’t let, we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon. They won’t have a nuclear weapon. So we’re going to honor them. And it’s one of the hardest things to do. For me, it’s one of the hardest things to do as a president. But, has to be done.”
The IRGC on Wednesday said that it carried out more attacks on US bases in Jordan and damaged helicopters and inflicted casualties on US troops. “The IRGC said a strike on a US troop accommodation facility resulted in an unspecified number of American personnel being killed or wounded,” Iran’s Mehr news agency reported.
So far, the US military has neither confirmed nor denied any US casualties in the Iranian attacks. The Pentagon had not disclosed the fact that dozens of US troops were injured in Jordan in the week leading up to the deadly July 17 attacks and only admitted that nearly 100 were injured after The New York Times reported on the casualties.
Since Trump launched the war on February 28, at least 18 US soldiers have been killed, according to the US military’s official count.
US and Israeli attacks on Iran since February 28 have killed around 3,500 Iranians, including more than 50 since the US renewed strikes several weeks ago. In April, Iranian officials said nearly half of those killed were civilians, including the 120 school children killed in the US bombing of an elementary school in Minab, southern Iran.
