Israeli Strikes Kill 16 Palestinians in Gaza Over 48 Hours

Hamas is calling on the Trump administration to condemn Israel's constant ceasefire violations

Gaza’s Health Ministry said on Thursday that Israeli attacks in Gaza have killed at least 16 Palestinians and wounded 39 over the previous 48-hour period as the IDF continues its constant violations of the US-backed Gaza ceasefire deal.

Israeli attacks included the bombing of a residential building in Gaza City on Wednesday night, which killed 10 people, including four children, according to health officials speaking to Al Jazeera. Israel claimed that it targeted two Hamas members, and a source close to Hamas told Reuters that at least one local commander, identified as Emad Esleem, was killed.

The day before, on Tuesday night, an Israeli strike on a building in Gaza City killed Mohammed Odeh, the head of Hamas’s military wing, the al-Qassams Brigade, who was killed alongside his wife and two sons. Odeh had just replaced the former Qassams’ chief, Izz al-Din al-Haddad, who was killed 11 days earlier.

The assassinations and heavy Israeli attacks, which all violate the October 2025 ceasefire deal, came as Palestinians celebrated the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha and prompted Hamas to call on the Trump administration to condemn Israel’s violations of the agreement.

“The US administration and the countries guaranteeing the agreement must assume their responsibilities by taking a clear stance condemning the occupation’s violations,” Hamas said, according to Middle East Eye.

The group added that “urgent and serious steps must be taken to ensure the occupation complies with the terms of the deal, which is at risk of collapse due to its ongoing crimes and repeated breaches.”

According to numbers from Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 922 Palestinians have been killed, and 2,786 have been wounded since the so-called ceasefire was signed.
