US-Israeli Strikes Pound Residential Targets in Iran

Both government and non-government sources reported heavy strikes on residential areas this weekend that killed dozens of civilians

US-Israeli strikes in Iran pounded residential areas across Iran on Saturday and Sunday as the bombing campaign continues to have a devestating impact on Iranian civilians.

Citing Iranian media, AFP reported that overnight strikes from Friday into Saturday on residential areas in the western city of Borujerd killed at least seven people and wounded 36. Attacks also hit similar targets in the northwestern city of Zanjan, killing at least five people and injuring seven others.

The Human Rights Activist News Agency, or HRANA, a US-based and US-funded NGO that’s very critical of the Iranian government, recorded “hundreds” of attacks on residential areas on Saturday, and about 74% of all recorded strikes hit Tehran.

The HRANA said that at least 24 civilians, including 8 children and 6 women, were killed on Saturday, in addition to 41 military deaths. On Sunday, the group said it recorded the killing of 17 civilians and three members of the military.

Al Araby, a Qatari news channel, said that one of its offices was hit by US-Israeli strikes in Tehran on Sunday. “An Israeli missile targets the Al Araby TV channel building in the capital, Tehran… extensive damage and the suspension of live broadcasting,” the channel said.

According to HRANA’s numbers, more than 1,500 civilians have been killed since the US and Israel launched the war on February 28. The Iranian government hasn’t put out an official overall death toll recently, but the Iranian Health Ministry said Sunday that more than 230 children have been killed by the US-Israeli bombardment, a number that aligns with HRANA’s figures.

The majority of the children were killed by a US strike during the opening hours of the war that hit an elementary school in Minab, southern Iran, killing over 100 children.
