Israeli Forces Kill More Than 50 Palestinians in Gaza as It Continues Destruction Campaign in Gaza City

Another three Palestinians starved to death amid the famine caused by the Israeli siege

Israeli forces killed more than 50 people in Gaza on Monday, medical sources told Al Jazeera, as the IDF continues its destruction campaign in Gaza City and launches attacks in other parts of the Strip.

Out of the 51 people reported killed, at least 36 died in Gaza City, where the IDF has been conducting an offensive that has displaced about 300,000 people since it started in August. Another 10 Palestinians were killed while attempting to get aid in other parts of Gaza.

Israeli strikes on Monday included the destruction of the al-Ghafri high-rise tower in western Gaza City. The Israeli military has destroyed dozens of high-rise towers in Gaza City in recent weeks as its plans for the city involve forcibly displacing the entire civilian population and razing every building to the ground.

According to The Associated Press, an Israeli strike that hit a tent on the roof of a building in Gaza City killed Mohammed al-Kuifi, a local journalist. Another bombing targeting a tent housing a displaced family killed seven people. Photos and videos from Gaza show that many children were among the people killed and wounded in Gaza City.

The IDF offensive in Gaza City comes amid a famine in the area, a determination made by both US and UN-backed hunger monitors. At least three more Palestinians starved to death in Gaza due to the Israeli siege, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

“The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip recorded three deaths due to famine and malnutrition in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths from malnutrition to 425, including 145 children,” the ministry wrote on Telegram.

The ministry said in its daily update, which it releases about midday Gaza time, that it recorded the deaths of 34 Palestinians and the injury of 316. The latest violence brings its death toll since October 7, 2023, to 64,905, and the number of wounded to 164,926.
