Senior US officials have concluded that a Gaza ceasefire deal will likely not be reached before President Biden’s term comes to an end on January 20, 2025, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.
For months, Biden administration officials have claimed that a hostage deal between Israel and Hamas was in sight while at the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was constantly rejecting the idea of a permanent ceasefire.
The US officials speaking to the Journal blamed the lack of a deal on Hamas, claiming the main sticking point is over the ratio of Palestinian prisoners to Israeli hostages that will be released. But it has been widely acknowledged by Israeli officials and media outlets that Netanyahu has been sabotaging the chances of an agreement.
Members of the Israeli negotiating team said last month that Netanyahu’s insistence on maintaining control of the Philadelphi Corridor was “intended to blow up the negotiations.”
The US officials speaking to the Journal said another reason why a deal is not going to happen was the Israeli operation in Lebanon that blew up thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies, killing dozens, including at least two children. The US officials said the attack has made the chances of a major regional war much more likely.
“No deal is imminent,” one of the US officials said. “I’m not sure it ever gets done.” The report said a number of top officials in the White House, Pentagon, and State Department don’t think a deal will happen.
President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris both claim they care about the huge number of civilians being slaughtered in Gaza and that they’re working on a ceasefire. But their administration continues to ship weapons to Israel, and there’s no sign they’ve even considered cutting off the flow of arms, which would force Israel to agree to a deal. A senior Israeli Air Force official recently acknowledged that without US support, Israel wouldn’t be able to sustain operations in Gaza for more than a few months.
In the meantime, the genocidal slaughter in Gaza continues. The latest figures from Gaza’s Health Ministry put the number of Palestinians killed by Israel since October 7 at 41,272. The figure is considered an undercount since it doesn’t account for the Palestinians missing and presumed dead under the rubble, which was previously estimated to be 10,000.
Earlier this week, Gaza’s Health Ministry released the names of 34,344 Palestinians who have been killed by Israeli forces, including 11,355 children. Among the children were 710 infants who did not make it to their first birthday.
Duh! This is the dumbest report yet. Of course these morons in the US government aren't going to get a ceasefire. They don't want to and they can't as long as Netanyahu and his crazies are in charge.
I'm starting to get bored with this war as much as I'm bored with the Ukraine war. The "stupid Israelis" – as Hezbollah chief Nasrallah refers to them in his speech – apparently are too dumb to actually get on with starting the war because like all these morons they're scared to be blamed for starting the war.
I'm listening to Mearsheimer now and he said the Israelis intended to "coerce" Hezbollah to stand down. This is idiotic. The pager attack was painfully obviously a provocation intended to escalate the conflict.
Mearsheimer gets some things right in his interview with Judge Nap, but he still doesn't get the Big Picture. And Judge Nap knows even less based on his questions. Mearsheimer still thinks the US doesn't want a war with Iran, which is absurd.

I think that there are many realists in the Pentagon that understand that war with Iran and Hezbollah would be a mistake. …. But the US political leadership does not have that similar wisdom—and the politicians and the state dept are under the control of the Israelis… The fact that people like A. Hochstein (former IDF) are playing key roles in the US administration further make this point.
Correct.
Some people think that because the Pentagon allegedly convinced Biden not to order long-range missile attacks into Russia that it means the US will not support Israel in a wider Mid-East war.
This is nonsense. The Pentagon knows the difference between attacking the most powerful nuclear-armed nation in the world and bombing the same Third World countries they've been bombing for the last fifty years.
So the Pentagon will have no problem putting boots on the ground in Lebanon and elsewhere – they already did in Iraq and Syria. Lebanon is no different in their eyes.
What they don't grasp is that the Middle East has figured it out. Those countries and non-state actors have a new method: 1) go underground, and 2) use missiles. The Pentagon isn't ready for that, and doesn't understand it.
That's why the US and Israel will lose.
Crickey! Wise words!
Exactly. Since 9/11 and the USA's rampage across the Asian highlands and the Middle East & North Africa, EVERYONE potentially in America's sights have been taking notes on their tactics and strategies.
The DPRC itself just needs to recognize Osama Bin Laden's observations (the USA will spend itself into self-defeat) and rewatch Ali-Foreman Rumble in the Jungle. The USA will shovel a trillion bucks it doesn't have to beef up and poke away at DPRC boundaries, and China need only bounce on the ropes & let the US tire itself into hideous debt.
You the best Uncle S.!
I think you guys would win against Iran and Hezbollah but nobody wants a war
unless the people see a real threat, but even then there could be resistance
Mearsheimer, Sachs and a couple of others play naive/dumb. It may be a necessary method of survival, they may represent an opposing division of deep state, but they pull punches often.
That said, they are generally on the money with characterizing the stupidity and barbarism.
I must be tired… for a moment, I thought I read:
Bathroomism!
Lol. ;-}
That too, lol lol!
After Biden's term ends, it will remain the same.
I think the Israeli blood lust has run its natural course. It will begin to subside and settle for half of Gaza and the West Bank … (unless Hezbollah, Houthis, Iran, … decide otherwise). Kamala & BB will be jointly awarded the Nobel Prize and the memory of the genocide will blurr and sink into the memory hole like all the previous.
Healthy cynicism.
…
But, Donna, quite the opposite of healthy, it makes me heart sick.
You have a good heart and mind good Robert.
Same
No cynicism is "healthy" per sé,
Maybe just less harmful
Like benign cancer
Sure, it's not killing you yet…
but its cancer
Where does 'cynicism' end and 'realism' begin? Hard to tell nowadays.
Sad hypocrasy of the world right now
… et in secula seculorum … as we used to say.
Oh
I think you are wrong Robert. Expansion is the goal.
;-}
Expansion is ideological, blood-lust is passion. I agree “From the Euprates to the Nile!” is still the Covenant with Abraham; but, it has to take place in time, not in a miraculous instant.
You rock, healthily cynical!
The expansion is empire’s goal.
The bloodlust is a feature, not a bug.
The Israeli version of 'from the river to the sea' is from the Euphrates to the Red Sea.
Iran is not going to go war over Palestinians. What would they gain? Countries will give votes to Palestinians in international bodies and even send them money, but what country is going to have their citizens died for the Palestinians?
Hi Tim,
You raise a good point, though, can’t say, for sure, how to respond… Let me contemplate a bit… Forget that.
Iran has balls the size of mountains! Yet, they are also, incredibly brave and wise. That gives me some hope, as pitiful as it may sound.
😉
Iran isn’t perfect of course. The younger Iranians want some changes. I don’t know what’s really possible, but the old give way to the young with time.
Sure. How did the great counter attack from Iran go after Israel killed the Hamas leader in Iran? Iran has goals and getting nuked by Israel is not one of them.
Iran's not being given a choice. They're under constant attack by both Israel and the US (and frequently the EU) and have been for decades. Terrorism (mostly Israel), economic (US/EU), electronic (US/Israel), propaganda US/EU/Israel), infrastructure (US/Israel), dietary (US/EU), transportation (US), an open shooting war is pretty much the only aspect still lacking.
Southern Gaza is too small…
Nonsense. They want all of Palestine plus southern Lebanon. Jared Kushner has to be able to sell seaside property in Gaza.
The genocide of Oct 7 will not be forgotten.
Yes, the Nazi template is unmistakable: Reichstag fire, Kristalnacht, extermination camps.
Unfortunately probably
I feel for every Palestinian facing oppression by the Israeli Apartheid state
If only we could all get along
War – of any sort – is a last resort
Do you are feel for the relatives of thousands of Israelis killed by Palestinians terrorists over the year? Or are you like some people on this board who cheer each time an Israeli is killed?
You are right to make such remarks Tim and speaking for myself, I apologize but…
I HAVE SPENT LITERALLY YEARS, DEALING WITH THIS BS!!!
Mama said I was born with peace, in my eyes, lol. Everyone has brown eyes in my family and mine are actually green. 😉
How many more must die, on any side?….
….. …. …. ……………………………………………..
???……………………………………………………….
yes i do feel for them
terror is horrid but more terror doesn’t fix the problem
"Thousands"? How far do you have to go back to get to "thousands of Israelis killed"? Now ask yourself how long the Palestinians have to go back to get to thousands of Palestinians killed. Now ask yourself who the real terrorists are. It makes me sick when you Israeli firsters equate the misery when it's so one-sided.
Poor little Israel. They've been butchering Palestinians for decades, but we're only supposed to remember the relatively few Israelis who have been murdered.
Check out "ifamericansknew.org.
How do you feel about the 500 settlers killed and the hundreds of whites and mixed bloods taken hostage during the 1862 Santee Sioux uprising when the Minnesota Sioux were facing genocide? Sometimes people being genocided fight back.
I sympathize with everyone who suffers from war. But the cause of this war is Zionist settler-colonialism. The solution is ending the Zionist ethno-state and giving the indigenous Palestinians the opportunity to exercise their right to return to their land , to exercise self determination and to hold those who have committed crimes (mostly Zionists) accountable as war criminals.
Coming from Mankato, MN I know all about the 1862 Santee Sioux uprising and the hanging of 39 Indians in Mankato. Lincoln signed off on the hangings as he wanted recruits for his war from Minnesota.
Very interesting Mary! Good post. I myself am part Comanche and my ancestor is Quanah Parker.
And here I thought you were 100% Italian!
Honest Abe also promised permanent slavery to West Virginia. He’d promise anything to win.
stop running your mouth about abraham lincoln. you know nothing but “lost cause” propaganda.
Um, but it’s true…
Lincoln never freed one slave. The lost cause is lost, but it was merely that they invaded us. I’m not writing a book on it, but you won’t find purity in the Northern cause.
Dis you not hear of the emancipation proclamation?
That freed slaves outside his control. Slavery continued in the North at that point.
There is a case for secession being over slavery, but the North wasn’t really worried about slaves. Equality wasn’t found in most places after the war. The South did fear slavery might end without secession.
Anyway, I just wanted to say a few things on it.
One common argument is to note the extermination of the pagan Plains Amerindians after the war.
Black slaves had been converted to Christianity. Conversion was one justification of slavery, as if it were temporary.
Jews were very well treated in the South or at least in Charleston, btw. They probably had it better here than in most of the North.
I visited the Pine Ridge reservation years ago. The Sioux are a strong people. The Sioux Nation won a historic lawsuit when the US Supreme Court ruled that the Black Hills were stolen from the Sioux Nation in violation of the Fort Laramie Treaty . United States vs. Sioux Nation, 448 U.S. 371 (1980). The Court ruled that the Sioux nation was entitled to cash reparations. Sioux have refused to take the award, which now totals over one billion dollars. The Sioux said that they want the Black Hills back – their land is not for sale. Like I said, they are a strong people.

The solution is for the US to exit entirely. Israel can then negotiate or fight as it pleases. The US needn’t be involved.
If the US fully exits, the Israelis will be the weak. They’ll then need to make a deal.
That is not going to happen. That would be political suicide for the political party that tried to do that. The other problem is " fight as it pleases". Without the US to constraint Israel, Israel could revert back to 1948 survival mentality and that would not be good for the Palestinians.
But it’s not America’s business. The US also needn’t bribe or involve itself in Egypt.
Anyway, it’s not possible presently.
Sooner or later, if both the US and Israeli regimes survive for that long, support for the Israeli regime will become a liability rather than an asset for American politicians.
I have no information on the 1862 Santee Sioux uprising. What I do know is that 1948 war between the Arabs armies and Israel was won by Israel. That was 76 years ago. As result of the war a lot of Palestinians but not all either fled or were expelled by Israel. Who knows what would have happen if the Arabs nations did not attack. But they did. After the war Israel made the two decisions. One was the Arabs would try again which they did. The second was that it was impossible to defend Israel from attack with a large number of Palestinians hating Israel living in Israel. Thus Israel prevented their return. Military it was the right decision. Now 76 years later the grand children are wanting to go back to the lands their grand and great grand fathers lost. It time to end that dream and come up with solutions that have a chance. BTW. Another result of that war was Jordan taking a significant amount land from Palestinians also. Which Jordon lost to Israel many years later in 1967. People tend to forget or not know that fact.
Zionism is a liberation movement-to free Jewish people from oppression, and indignity. Let th eArab countries be held accountable for their persecution and eviction of their Jewish peoples.
The Nazis said the same thing about Germans in Poland.
Putin says the same thing about Russians in Ukraine.
The Zionists are in good company.
Some of us try to love everyone, difficult as that is… Because that is what peace means to me, though, to be as truthful as possible, I find even my own character being challenged, in these trying times!….
And which "thousands of Israelis" would these be ?
Hamassian forces killed over half the Israelis killed on Oct 7th (the IDF's bumbling killed the other few hundred).
Hamassian militae have killed IDF soldiers in combat; if those deaths could as "terrorism" then you must apply the label to IDF stormtroopers killing Hamas regulars.
Palestinian civilians are not Hamas.
Hamas is Hamas.
The IDF have killed an order of magnitude more Palestinians than Hamas has killed IDF & Israeli citizens combined.
Your tiresome attempt at ramrodding your Equivocation Fallacy up against facts, only makes you sound pathetic and desperate. I think your fantasy world-view of ASI supremacy and moral high-ground is rending apart as more people wake to realize it's BOTH bulls**t and horses**t you & other ASI apologists are spreading.
Balls the size of the Empire State Building Uncle Sapien!
Surely you must know that over the years thousands Israelis have died at the hands of Palestinians in differ wars and terrorists attacks. As for the order magnitude difference between the two sides, good. The Palestinians need to know that their a heavy price for their terrorists attacks.
“The Palestinians” do not conduct terrorist attacks. Particular individuals do.
Hi Tim,
These are truly trying times for all of us but I still hope and pray, we will all find a way through this, without destroying ourselves…
blessings, peace and goodwill to all of us!!!

Shame on Amerika
Shame on the west
Shame on Israel
If I live in Ukraine as you clam to do, the last thing I would do is coitizes the West or America. Ukraine would cease to exists without NATO and the USA support. Wake up.
Oppression breeds solidarity. Many Ukrainians who oppose Russian aggression are in solidarity with Palestine. Here is link to a letter by over 400 Ukrainian intellectuals expressing solidarity with Palestine and condemning the Zelensky government's support for Israel.
https://commons.com.ua/en/ukrayinskij-list-solidarnosti/
No, Ukraine would have not been invaded if not for the US/NATO. Wake up.
I'm shaming one faucet of them
and we wouldn't cease to exist without them
we are an ethnicity and people
And Russian chauvinists never understood that Ukrainians are an ethnicity and a people with a culture and national identity separate from Russia. It is good to have a proud Ukrainian internationalist contributing to the comments on this site.
i applaud the guy who downvoted your comment for probably just reading halfway through

"The administration continues to support the genocidal slaughter." Actually, it never ever stopped before. "Genocidal slaughter" is exactly what we used to call, "The Peace Process." Except, it's more severe and stupidly obvious now.
If they wanted a ceasefire they could stop being traitors and actually serve the American people and not som e shitty apartheid colony thousands of miles away. But I guess that's a bridge too far
Be realistic about your country
That's 4 months from today. What's going to be left?
Concrete rubble … which is great foundation material for the settlements and beachfront developments coming soon …
NOT to be paid by us!
As if we needed any further proof that the only thing Biden cares about is his own skin.
Nope. His self image. His "self-awareness" when looking at himself in the mirror is very wrong.
In a televised speech today, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman stated that, "The [Saudi] kingdom will not stop its tireless work towards the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. We affirm that the kingdom will not establish diplomatic relations with Israel without that.”
Sorry deganawida, but blah blah blah on the Saudis’ part.
word alone from the most arguably most influential power in the middle east has the weight of gold. This statement is the biggest boom-boom in many years, its pivotal. Research will inform you that this very statement has been a hot potato for years without formalization. [Now lets get it codified at the un]… Read between the lines young man, its all there…
I totally dig your vibes!
🙂
Thanks Donna. The ICC still cant safely come out with arrest warrant’s for war criminals because of the non rule of law times we live in and SSSSOOOO much pressure to see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil is like living in germany for us old folks and its 1932. im ashamed and embarrassed to live in such times! ‘

Cynical much, good friend?!….

I can’t find a link now, because search engines are tightly controlled and it’s tough to get around that. But months ago, Blinken claimed they were close to normalization and Saudis denied it. But they haven’t done much of anything else.
But as an aside: it’s amazing how the search engines actually promote the narrative that Blinken is a well intentioned and competent “diplomat”. Every single result.
The Abraham Accords were supposedly negotiated by Jared Kushner, without the presence of any representatives from Palestine. Some deal.
Maybe I missed something, but was not the Abraham accords just between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain?
No.
We’ll see what transpires in the October BRICS conference.
BRICS are made to be broken!
; ; ;
The other bizarre thing is that Europe is still buying gas from Russia until the end of this year. Of course they are not getting the vast amount as a source from there, but it’s still strange that you can be at war and still conduct business.
Ain't that a hoot! Still buying oil and gas from the "enemy".
It really makes you wonder if it isn't all a tragic farce…
Yes, BRICS. China is Israel's biggest trading partner. Israel is India's biggest weapons supplier. South Africa continues to export raw diamonds to supply Israel's biggest industry. Turkey has increased its exports to Israel an average of 14.5% for the past five years and now exports $7B annually to Israel.
Israel could not sustain its genocide if it didn't import 220,000 barrels of oil a day from Muslim OPEC+ countries who consistently vote for General Assembly resolutions condemning Israel's aggression against Palestine.
As far as I know Russia is the only BRICS member that has consistently and drastically reduced its trade with Israel every year since 2019. Iran, of course, has almost no trade with Israel for many years. But the others support the Israeli economy big time while voting against Israel at the UN.
If the nations of the world continued to do business with apartheid South Africa the way BRICS does business with Israel, there would still be apartheid in South Africa.
Yeah, I don’t disagree. Business and money are paramount above everything..for the few.
Here what you don't understand. There is very little true support for Palestinians. They cause trouble and are bad for business.
You’re right that there is very little true support for Palestinians.
The biggest reason for that is that the Palestinians are much more useful to Israel’s adversary regimes as propaganda posters of oppressed people behind barbed wire than they would be as citizens of a peacetime state that would have, and pursue, its own interests.
Yes, some Palestinians cause trouble. As will happen any time there’s a foreign occupation to be resisted and fought. If there had been no French resistance, Polish resistance, etc., maybe everyone would have just gone back to trading with the Third Reich.
Thomas, you need to differentiate between the hypocritical governments who want to do business with Israel and the USA from the people of those countries who support the Palestinians. The Palestinians are fighting an asymmetric war of national resistance and liberation, like the Vietnamese and Ukrainians. Even the betrayal of their own government, the PA and the PLO, did not defeat their struggle. As long as the Palestinians continue to resist they will win. It is likely that the liberation of Palestine will result in the overthrow of the Arab monarchs and dictators as well as the Zionist settler entity.
Also Saudis : "Whew, it's nice to have another September almost behind us. Tough time of year for us, September, what will all those lingering questions about 9/11 becoming briefly relevant again until the NFL season starts to take off & distracts Americans again."
Healthily cynical Uncle S.!

Same for all other Arab leaders. All talk. No action. Just want the Palestinian "problem" to go away. By any means.
Except for the Houthis.

Einstein referred to Likud as being Fascists. Turned down the idea of him being the first president of the new (illegal) nation.
Golly I never new Einstein was an AntiSemite. Time to wash him from history and credit Elise Stefanik with the theory of relatively instead! And the invention of cookie dough!
Redundant post. Deleted by Skywalker.
Einstein was a "cultural Zionist" who opposed the creation of a Zionist ethno-state in Palestine. Einstein wanted post mandate Palestine to be a secular state for Arabs and survivors of the Holocaust and the Diaspora who would come as refugees, not conquerors. In 1948 Einstein, Hannah Arendt and Sidney Hook were among 27 intellectuals who wrote a letter to the New York Times condemning Menachem Begin's Freedom Party as a racist party and comparing it to the Nazi parties that had been defeated in WWII. The Freedom Party was the precursor of the modern Likud. Here is a link to Einstein's letter:
https://www.marxists.org/reference/archive/einstein/1948/12/02.htm
I highly recommend Fred Jerome's book "Einstein on Israel and Zionism" (2009) It is a good read. Einstein was a good man.

Joe Biden is first and foremost an Israeli president before being an American president. That's how his priorities are.
!!!
So was Trump, Obama, Bush and Clinton. The last American president who tried to stand up to Israel was the elder Bush until AIPAC taught him who really ran the State Department's Mid-East policy.
Touché ole!
Elder Bush? That surprises me.
Why do you think he lost?
The DC establishment made the mistake of allowing Ross Perot into the debates, in the last presidential debate where any measurable number of voters changed their mind. They seriously underestimated the US public's ability to discern facts from political babble.
JFK. Also stood up to the CIA, wanting to break it up into a million pieces then scatter it to the winds. Wanted out of Vietnam. Could work with Kruschev. Fired Allen Dulles. His death was a coup on the part of multiple players.
Carter, who made a single phone call and stopped Israeli aggression for the rest of his term.
Ike did
The only solution is to outlaw lobbing which is legal bribery in politics. But, that won't happen. The Gov. won't bite the hand that feeds them all those goodies for special interests only.
LIARS, everything coming from Biden, Blinken, Harris about a Cease Fire, was a LIE. Never did they want a Cease Fire, they want what Netanyahu wants, complete decimation of Palestinians. By Biden/ Harris/Congress bowing to the Genocidal Maniacs in Israel, they endorsed the Genocide and played the STALL and KILL Game. America is WEAK, when we can NOT stand up to the Genocidal Zionist, will NOT stop supporting them, knowing unarmed humans are being slaughtered. America has become as depraved as Israel, where there is NO Rule of Law, NO Humanity and all we can hope, is that someone will stand up to the Terrorist State of Israel.
Of course not. Biden gave them total free rein, permission for anything and everything. He just lies about it, or has Kirby and Miller lie for him.
Need to give Iran much gratitude and someone should write about Press TV and their marvelous efforts, for those paying attention!
A reminder… We should be at war with Iran BUT! THEY took the High Road! Amen!
Iran won’t start WWIII but looks like Israel WILL.
Israel seems to have lost its way entirely, with US help…
Israel/Zionism is on a roll, they're getting more land in Gaza and the West Bank and will start a war with Lebanon to get some of its land which is part of the greater Israel agenda. And, Wash. and our taxes are paying for all of it.
Iran seems to believe Kamala is better than Trump, at least according to hearsay. So, what could be worse?
Jill Biden held the last cabinet meeting according to the NY Post.
It's amazing that Americans hear or read every day that they are "waiting for the elections," as if they are waiting for the elections to do something different that, if they did it before the elections people would vote against. In other words they are saying, right out front that they are fooling you, waiting, until you can't do anything about it to do what they were afraid to admit while you could. Not only are they fooling the people, they are telling you that they are and everybody seems okay with it.
If you don't like Trump or Kamala and you're wondering who to vote for, watch this: https://x.com/charliekirk11/status/1837273078189150310?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet
Interesting … are you a Harris campaign volunteer or something?
Please. Even you termed Kamala "an empty pantsuit" if I recall.
Yes, I have.
And you constantly promote her by e.g. posting videos that make her opponents look like idiots, pretending Trump is some kind of “peace” candidate even though you have to know anyone with an IQ over 40 knows better, etc.
Why else would you do you such things than because you’re a strong supporter of hers?
Facts are facts. You may not like it but President Trump managed to keep the US out of Wars for 4 years unlike the Biden-Harris Warmongers.
Yes, facts are facts.
Trump escalated every war he inherited, and re-started the previously moribund war in Somalia.
You don't have to like the fact that those facts are facts. Those facts are facts whether you like the fact that they're facts or not.
If those were actually the facts the Establishment Deep State would love Trump rather than hate him and would be backing Trump to the hilt rather than trying to JFK him.
Weird that your counter-argument would be a confession that you have no idea what the Deep State is.
Sen. Chuck U. Schumer (D-NY) certainly knows who they are when he warned Donald Trump that “they’ve got six ways to Sunday to ‘get you'”. Remember? Schumer is also the guy who publicly threatened Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh: “You won’t know what hit you!”
