Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that Ukraine’s invasion of Russia’s Kursk Oblast has failed to distract Russian forces from the frontline in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region, where Russia continues to make steady gains.
“The enemy’s goal was to make us nervous and worry and to transfer troops from one sector to another and stop our offensive in key areas, primarily in the Donbas,” Putin said at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. “Did it work or no? No.”
Russian forces have been making more rapid gains in Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast since Ukraine launched the invasion of Kursk on August 6. Russian advances in August marked Moscow’s biggest territorial gains in Ukraine since October 2022.
“The enemy weakened itself in key areas, and our troops accelerated offensive operations,” Putin said. “Most importantly, no actions are taking place to contain our offensive.”
Russian forces have been closing in on the Donetsk city of Pokrovsk, which served as a key hub for the Ukrainian military. Pokrovsk authorities ordered civilians to evacuate from the city, and according to The New York Times, the last evacuation train left this week. More than 26,000 civilians, including 1,000 children, have been forced to flee.
Ukrainian officials have said one purpose of the Kursk offensive was to gain territory that could be used as leverage in future peace talks. In response to the invasion, Putin and other Russian officials ruled out peace talks. However, on Thursday, Putin suggested he was still open to negotiations.
“Are we ready to negotiate with them? We have never refused to do so,” Putin said. “However, not on the basis of some ephemeral demands, but on the basis of the documents that were agreed upon and inked in Istanbul.”
Putin was referring to talks between Russian and Ukrainian negotiators that were held in Istanbul in March 2022. At the time, a peace deal was on the table, but it was discouraged by the US and its Western allies, who encouraged Ukraine to fight.
The Ukrainian invasion of Russian territory was already unacceptable to begin with. Regardless of how some people may screech about the ongoing war, Russia has always been fighting to defend their peoples. Just to be clear, I disagree with Putin's approach, Russia should take all of Ukraine, then Putin would deserve respect. There cannot be peace without justice. Still above all, there can never be negotiation with the West, it's only a waste, period.
There is that "all's fair in love & war" trope.
That presents a conundrum.
After 2 1/2 years, the Russians still have yet to even fully take Donetsk. How the hell are they supposed to take all of Ukraine?
All US supported wars will end when the US collapses financially and environmentally,
Smart Americans will be thinking about what their new nonviolent nation will be like.
Where should we set up the new capitol?

Putin commands fewer resources, including manpower, than Stalin did.
just trust him
All of which goes to show that Putin couldn't possibly have had designs on conquering all of Ukraine and then the rest of Europe. He's not that dumb.
wtf how do u formulate these opinions even?
AS LONG AS A LIVE I WILL NEVER BE UNDER A RUS
The statue of liberty should be moved from totalitarian genocidal US. It's the land of homeless huddled masses and eternal war because Americans have been brainwashed to hate humanity.
Therre are many mercenaries who are now stuck and isolated in Kursk. In the 1940s these soldiers were from Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.
Guess What? They still walk among Eastern Europeans.

Any evidence for there being many mercenaries in Kursk – the Russians must have captured some if they are there in substantial numbers!?
By the way, any evidence for them being isolated if they are there?
“A Group of German and Polish Soldiers Was Destroyed by Spetsnaz ‘AKHMAT’ In KURSK ”
It is reported – without any evidence – dog tags, id papers,… nothing – you cannot take out 50 westerners, 7 days ago without it being reported somewhere in the west by friends or family of those that have died – so this is just an other Russian propaganda trope.
Return when you have actual evidence!
You're sure? "Accidents" on "training missions" happen "all the time.
I doubt no militaries anywhere, at any time, have EVER had either a full or accurate (or truthful) accounting of ALL of their casualties.
Hells, the post-invasion Iraqi Army (I think also the post-Taliban Afghan Army) had hundreds, thousands of soldiers that didn't actually exist – but the Americans paid them and whoever invented these "ghost soldiers" pocketed the $$$$.
Yes I’m sure accidents on training missions also gets reported if the losses are as high as they here say ‘its been reported’ (indicating that they do not eve
Yes I'm sure accidents on training missions also gets reported if the losses are as high as they here say 'its been reported' (indicating that they do not even want to take responsibility themselves) it for sure would be a major event. put it a different way double digit losses of personnel in either the German or polish forces would make headlines.
As you may have noted i do not expect the military to report this – i expect the people disappearing to have friends and family – as most people do – them disappearing very soon becomes noted – especially if there are so many.
As for the Afghans – well you do notice that we are here then not talking about westerners with major social media presence – so yes you may be able to make plenty of those disappear – it's a totally different situation with westerners.
I mean, a Polish, German, Canadian family gets a visit from a military official. “Sorry, Mr. and Mrs. McTavish. Your son D’onte was killed when his MRAP overturned on exercises in Italy, here’s the official documentation.”
Who’d question that, when all the details line up ? Any objection just comes down to “trauma- / bereavement-related conspiracy theorising” easily dismissed as such if it does happen.
Quite a lot of people would post it on social media plus elsewhere, people ‘working’ together often share circles of friends and the likelihood that you could take out more than 20 odd people from any of those two armies and not have someone notice that they were not the only ones losing a friend/relative/son is miniscule.
Doing it form both armies is not feasible – not least because if they were to lie about the location then the families would expect the bodies to be returned much faster – not getting them home = scandal – lies being exposed.
Your problem is that the details do not line up not even for the most cursory investigation!
That presupposes a state of mental clarity on being informed of a loved one’s loss. In the surprise and shock of notification, there can be a disconnect, into which any information is not necessarily processed rationally or reasonably.
People know “the military” is a dangerous line of work; and that death, particularly accidental death, is a real hazard.
Perhaps no wonder then that special operatives; Rangers, SEALs, SAS, JTF-2, are preferred to be those with few connections to the “outside world”.
But “your cousin, that you know was Royal Navy, died in an accident during maneuvers in the North Sea” is completely plausible when you HAVE a Royal Navy cousin and you know that military accidents in dangerous places during complex operations are, well, normal.
No that merely presupposed that a few of the very many linked friends and or relatives poses a few questions.
If you think that the family will not want their dead relative then you know little about funerals in Germany and or Poland.
Sure but that does not stop them from wanting the body for burial – and questions answered as to how and why they relative was killed.
Which is also why such special ops troops are never wasted in what is an incursion where well trained normal troops are quite able to do the job.
Sure a naval officer may be lost at sea – but you try that with 20+ men from just one nation – and the story will get out.
My son was killed last Tuesday in an operation in xxx pleas all friends and acquaintances there will be a memorial service at yyy the xx-yy-2024 – but you think no one will notice that about 20+ such services are made across Poland or Germany???
From Wikipedia:
“Since the V-22 (Osprey) became operational in 2007, 12 crashes and several other accidents and incidents have killed a total of 32 people.”
Do you remember the national outrage, the suspicious families demanding answers, the “unexplained” multiple near-simultaneous funerals, people affected by it on Facebook, 32 people out of ~350 million Americans?
Neither do I.
They were accidents. Plain and simple.
Challenge that narrative. No ? Why not ? No reason to ?
I do remember these incidents as they were indeed impossible to keep secret as was even the special forces deaths of the US in Iran in 1979.
What you write here only enforces the notion that any significant number of deaths in the military can no longer be kept a secret.
So no 50 dead (special forces or other military would be known). So have you any evidence that 50 deaths of Polish or German have been reported?
No there simply is no such evidence – not attributed to any sources accidents or otherwise – because it did not happen.
You may speculate that these deaths were caused by special ops – to fit your narrative however requires that there were 50 deaths of Germans or Poles reported from other causes – there were not.
More over neither the Germans nor the Poles have equipment that could explain so many soldiers going missing – indeed they have made no attempts at explaining such losses as there have been no such losses.
Now explain why the Russians have not documented these deaths – a major propaganda coup – why no pictures – no documents no nothing.
Why do they even say that they are Poles or German – without such evidence???
I agree that no significant number of US/NATO casualties could be hidden, at least for very long.
But allow me to play devil’s advocate on one point: “explain why the Russians have not documented these deaths – a major propaganda coup”
If we assume that the Russian regime does not actually want direct military confrontation with the US/NATO, then why would they provably document any US/NATO presence or casualties? Assertion without evidence gives them some minor propaganda benefit while leaving them (and the US/NATO) more room to either escalate or not.
Besides that, any NATO operatives chosen for ops inside the Russian Federation won’t be chosen at random. They’ll be dudes who either can keep a secret OR don’t have a social web.
If they’re mercenaries, that’s another thing.
The special ops ‘fellers’ sure they are an other kettle of fish – but then they are not the kind of people any nation would waste on a job like the Kursk incursion – far too valuable for that – and there are far fewer of that kind of operatives.
So no they are not mercenaries and not operating in the Ukrainian Kursk incursion.
most believeable story from putin;
trust him bro
Russia MoD's best-kept secrets are the number of Iskander and Zircon hypersonic missiles in stock and their rate of production.
How many d'you figure ? Surely enough to fight NATO when-or-when it comes to that.
I've no idea.
I assume the Russian MoD is projecting a "long" conflict when and if NATO "escalates." It may or may not exceed two days by my uneducated reckoning.
How many nuclear warheads for said missiles do they have in underground storage?
Zelensky doesn't fully appreciate that Ukraine's AD and EW technical capabilities against hypersonic missiles are nil.
https://consortiumnews.com/2024/09/01/scott-ritter-on-a-highway-to-hell/
"The New START treaty limits the number of deployed nuclear warheads to 1,550 each for the U.S. and Russia. The treaty was negotiated on the principle of bilateral reciprocity."

I suspect Zelenskiyy, like the USA and NATO, either underestimate Russian technical capabilities – or grossly overestimate their own.
“THAAD, Aegis, Iron Dome, USA P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act missiles, frickin’ lasers – all of these are flawless and unparalleled. We’re basically shielded completely from everything.”
so nil we shot them down
Do you and Michael 64 as Ukrainians use the dollar and euro as the dominant currencies in everyday transactions?
hes danish
and here we use the hryvnia
oh yh and in denmark they use the Danish Kroner
Albeit their membership treaty for the EU stipulates they eventually must switch to the euro
I'm not Ukrainian and I have never been to Ukraine – I'm a Dane and have never kept that a secret – the flag is even in my icon.
And why would you assume that they would use the Dollar or the Euro in Ukraine?
shame we shot them down
Putin: Me and Trump will have an orgy with Orban and Netanyahu
Debunking lies, which are essentially propaganda spewed by Western Media and Ukraine.
US Army Col. Davis is less political than many mainstream media talking heads. He merely presents facts which are rare seen in Ukrainian propaganda.
Col. Davis is a combat veteran with a master's in international relations.
I watch The Deep Dive with Col. Daniel Davis every chance I get. He is a good man.
One two three what are they fighting for?
Don't give a dame, next stop in Kievian.
Slightly changed a Country Joe and the Fish song.
Best line ever: Mainstream talking heads are not news reporters they are actors who are cast as propaganda spewers.
The problem goes deeper than Russia. It's about removing sanctions against countries that disagree with America's corporate interests. It's about eliminating American diplomats, military officials, and the CIA from nations that refuse to be regime-changed.
Short of a nuclear strike on Washington, NYC, and America's financial collapse, I don't envision that occurring.
