Josep Borrell, the EU’s top diplomat, called on Wednesday for Western countries that are providing weapons to Ukraine to lift restrictions to allow long-range strikes inside Russia with NATO weapons.
The US is allowing Ukraine to use US-provided weapons in its Kursk offensive but is not permitting them to be used in long-range strikes. “Ukraine’s Kursk offensive is a severe blow to Russian President Putin’s narrative,” Borrell wrote on X.
“Lifting restrictions on the use of capabilities vs the Russian military involved in aggression against Ukraine, in accordance with international law, would have several important effects,” he said.
Borrell claimed allowing long-range strikes would help peace efforts, but Russia is ruling out any negotiations with Ukraine in the wake of the Kursk offensive, which was launched on August 6.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is pushing hard for the US and NATO to lift all restrictions on the use of their weapons, and has called his Western backers’ concerns about escalation “naive.” In the meantime, Ukraine has been stepping up longer-range attacks inside Russia using drones.
“Our Ukrainian drones work exactly as they should,” Zelensky said last week. “But there are things that cannot be done with drones alone. Unfortunately. We need other weapons—missile weapons.”
While Zelensky is downplaying the risk of a major Russian response, the US-backed invasion of Russian territory and the use of NATO weapons inside the Russian mainland marks a huge escalation of Russian territory.
I'm old enough to remember when diplomats encouraged, you know…diplomacy. Truly Orwellian.
Yes, this brain dead geezer, Dunning Kruger nutjob par excellence, fancies himself being a general while he can't even properly do his own job. This is the downfall of Europe in a nutshell.
If he's dying to bomb Russia, he may want to sit on a missile and let Zelensky light it up his A$$. "Moscow here I come!"–Josep Borrell's unforgettable moment!
It is. But under US carefull supervision and guidance. US does not need competitive Europe.
… and next he'll want to give the UkraNazis the right to bomb Russian civilians.

Nah, that’s a propaganda meme based on some one election result, in a contest where other slightly less far right candidates competed..
The far right provided the hellhounds for the Maidan coup. They coopted the initial popular demonstrations with the help of the CIA & the US State Dept.
As far as I can tell, far right authoritarianism, AKA fascism, has democracy on the run in that part of the world, and in any other nations as well.
my god you people are delusional
Russian strike on Kramatorsk: 4 Reuters employees injured, another journalist remains under rubble – photos
That is exactly what they have been doungthe entire war. Hit civilian targets. In Donbas, in Belgorod in Kursk. Brave Zionist Zelenski would live to do what Israel does in Gaza. He is sure still trying. Just banned the largest Ukrainian church! Officiated his own church! What a mess, and the collective West sits on its collective hands.
Yes, … I meant an ironic parallel between the Israeli Knesset debating a right to sodomy- torture law, albeit it’s been SOP with implicit approval in their torture gulag all along.
the russkie has broken diplomacy
Europeans and Americans have a deep hatred if Russians cultivated and inculcated by brainwashed desire for Russia's land and resources.
It is a cultivated hate for a large part indeed. There has always been a minority spewing vitriol about Russia. They were, much like the KKK nowadays, largely ignored, or viewed upon as a containable curiosity. For example after 2014 there has been a large Ukrainian refugee crisis, about 2.6 million in all. At that time no one gave a shit about Ukrainian refugees. They couldn't get into Europe; nobody would take them. Most of them fled to Russia.
The civil war inside Ukraine similarly was something few took notice of and no one cared about it one way or the other. NATO expansion inside Ukraine not a thing in the news. So when the invasion happened they treated is something that came totally out of the blue and even the slightest suggestion hinting in the direction of a possibility of disabusing the information starved public of that falsehood was simple censored. Then the media completely forsook their democratic duties as per usual and the hate suddenly began to gather steam in crescendo.
Most people have jobs and lives and don't have the time, the energy or the intention to dig in and find out. They take for granted what they are being told and then that's that for them. And so now they discovered they always hated Russia.
"Most people have jobs and lives and don't have the time, the energy or the intention to dig in and find out."
Same story for chemical poisoning of air, water and food.
I agree. It would be a good thing for anyone to pursue a scientifically informed opinion on those matters but always be acutely aware of the limits of their knowledge and weigh their certainties accordingly.
"Hahaha. Wait 'till you see what We're planning to do with this place."–NEOCON GOD
Weigh this one; The US allows all citizens to consume 32 ounces pf Roundup residue per year. I don't know if this is a liquid or weight measurement and I also doubt if US regulators know.
What do you exactly mean by RoundUp 'residue'? Does that refer to intermediate (bio-) degredation products of glycophosate or of surfactants/ emulsifiers like polyethoxylated tallow amine who are also used in other herbicides?
I would agree that ideally you wouldn't use herbicides and pesticides at all, but alas they are necessary. And as far as I am aware RoundUp is one of, or the safest of the herbicides around still. Nevertheless it is still bad news for the biology of the soil and groundwater. And it is a shit pesticide as it attacks the wrong metabolic pathway for that. So you still need to spray that crap too.
But RoundUp is comparably cheap in practical usage. Realistically speaking for commercial agriculture safer, equally effective or equally economically viable alternatives are not available.
Of course you don't really need RoundUp if you grow a bucket of beans, a few crops of lettuce and two cases of potatoes in your garden.
Herbicides are necessary for corporatist agriculture that employs semi slaves from outside the country. Regenerative agriculture needs no herbicides, insecticides or fertilizer,
I have to admit regenerative sounds even better than sustainable, which sounds better than merely conservation. What it exactly means turns out to be foggy. Wageningen University keeps a database on what it means for different researchers. There also seems no clear consensus present about what is to be regenerated by Regenerative Agriculture. It seems mostly to be used as a reference to maintaining good biological soil health. No argument there, everyone should be in favor of that.
But it seems not all interpretations of what Regenerative Agriculture (RegenAg) means preclude the use of biocides (herbicides and pesticides) and or chemical fertilizers but all do seek to minimize the use of them. But the practice (including refraining from plowing/ tilling the soil) invites a greater variety of weeds, which might incentivize farmers rather than decrease, increase the use of herbicides. The problem (with regard to food security, higher food prices – which are an all to real problem for lower income households for example) arises even more starkly when certain interpretations of RegenAg at the same time are also strictly (ideologically) anti-GMO.
It is not clear to me whether RegenAg is really importantly less labor intensive than conventional agriculture when actually practiced at scale. It could be.
Regenerating soil ia accomplished by replenishment of soil carbon content. A change from the automobile culture and regenerative agriculture are the only known actual route to human survival.
That must be why Peter and Catherine the Great raped, pillaged and murdered millions of people as they annexed all land from the Volga to Vladivostok, millions of people which various Russian regimes have raped, pillaged, murdered and oppressed ever since, up to, and including the current Russian criminal land grabbing oligarchy.
It all started with the "perfidious Albion" –The UK, the "Great Game" a means of promoting empire by treachery. A model that the USA adopted, embraced and brought to Western Europe via NATO.
The level of stupidity and arrogance by the US is stunning.
This EU’s top diplomat is an idiot who wants to start WWIII.
i love borrel
Calling someone who supports expanding warfare a diplomat is an oxymoron.
very euphamistic as well
Another useful idiot for the war party.
Extinction of humans on earth is getting closer and closer!
What time is it on the doomsday clock?
uhm…………………………………
0.5 seconds till -0.5 seconds
The clock hasn't been farther removed from midnight since 1947 than 23:43:00 h (from 91 to 94) from 2020 onward it hasn't been so close to midnight as since 1947. It went to 23:58:20 It has indeed never been so close as now, that's including the Cuban missile crisis. From 2023 to now it's 90 seconds, 23:58:30.
I don't think it dawns on most, maybe almost all people how unfathomable and criminally dumb this all is, given the lifespan of an individual human being. It is just way too short to intuit the infinitisemal timeframe in the context of human history and how this extrapolates into the future.
Zelensky, owner of a nice winery in Tuscany, as well as a nice place in the same country, pushes for a wider war, which is funny because his term as president of Ukraine was up months ago, and he suspended elections.
By the same token, Russia can receive weapons from China, North Korea and Iran…!
nuh uh
I thought you said two wrongs don’t make a right.
Seems in your world that only applies when the west helps allies fighting for their existence against autocratic enemies who are trying to destroy them.
You keep saying right and wrong…! There's no right and wrong when it comes to US…! The empire must be confronted…!
Yup, that’s what Putin, XI and Kim keep saying.
the level of stupidity and arrogance by russia is stunning
He's more like the Bottom Diplomat…!
EU is a Garden while the rest of the world is Jungle…!
I am not sure I understand American public. Everyone is acting as if sll the conflicts are “over there” and regardless of what we do, we will never, ever see missikes hitting out towns. With US and the poodle UE being actively involved in instructing Ukrain to hit Russia with our supplied weapons and satelite guidance — what makes us think we are not vulnerable? Are we this tired of good life?
Notice they all say "narrative," "flip the script," etc. Because there is no actual military gain they can point to. Because Ukraine failed.
Ukraine's aim was to take the nuclear power plant near Kursk on the first day, the only day when they could possibly take it, and that failed. Instead they have resorted to terrorism, attacking the NUCLEAR POWER PLANT with drones. The involved should all be tried and executed for this.
They also wanted to have something to show on their independence day, since they are failing everywhere in Donbass.
And also, it is an attempt to pull NATO countries into a direct confrontation with Russia. Draw attention to the Kursk incursion, have all Biden-loyal media celebrate it, and then say: "We can only maintain this if long-range missiles attack deep into Russia. You've seen now that the Russians won't respons even when we take Russian land, so let us do that!"
But Russia knows, everyone knows, that the Storm Shadow and other advanced missiles are far above what the incompetent Ukrainians can handle – all the aiming is done by Westerners. British, Germans and Americans. They just let some Ukrainian push the trigger when it's all done.
That means using these missiles means NATO is directly attacking Russia. Which is exactly what the criminal Zelensky wants.
Russia has strongly warned the U.S. regime, and the former "conservative" government in Britain, against this. Both of them were reluctant to carry out such a direct attack. But the new socialist regime in Britain is eager to attack the hated conservatives in Russia, who all socialist parties and media in Europe call "fascists".
So far the Bidenites have been reluctant as there's an election coming, and they don't want to risk Russia striking NATO targets before then, as Russia has threatened in the case of a NATO attack.
