On Monday, delegates at the Democratic National Convention voted to adopt the party’s new 2024 platform, which vows “ironclad” support for Israel amid its US-backed genocidal war in Gaza.
“President Biden and Vice President Harris believe a strong, secure, and democratic Israel is vital to the interests of the United States,” the platform reads. “Their commitment to Israel’s security, its qualitative military edge, its right to defend itself, and the 2016 Memorandum of Understanding is ironclad.”
The 2016 Memorandum of Understanding is an agreement reached under the Obama administration that committed the US to providing Israel with $3.8 billion in military aid each year from 2019 to 2028.
The strong commitment to arming Israel comes amid protests at the DNC for Vice President Kamala Harris, the 2024 nominee, to commit to imposing an arms embargo on Israel. But Harris is not expected to alter US policy toward Israel.
The Democratic Party’s platform also claims that President Biden has been working for “peace” in the Middle East and a ceasefire deal for Gaza. But his administration refuses to use the leverage it has over Israel to force a deal, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to sabotage the chances of an agreement with Hamas.
The 92-page platform boasts of Biden’s new military interventions in the Middle East, including the bombing campaign against the Houthis in Yemen, which has only escalated the situation in the Red Sea, and the US defense of Israel from an Iranian attack in April.
Iran fired more than 300 missiles and drones at Israel in response to the Israeli bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus. “Through direct defensive action by the US military and its partners, Iranian munitions did not cause significant damage, demonstrating both America’s ironclad commitment to the security of Israel and our unrivaled ability to leverage growing regional integration among US partners to counter Iranian aggression,” the platform reads.
The Republican Party’s new platform, which was adopted in July, is much shorter but also offers support for Israel, which is the only foreign country mentioned in a positive way. “We will stand with Israel and seek peace in the Middle East,” it reads.
The Democratic Party platform lists the proxy war in Ukraine and the US military buildup in the Asia Pacific as achievements of the Biden administration. The platform says Biden has recognized China as “America’s most consequential strategic competitor,” aligning with the Pentagon’s view that China is the top threat facing the US.
No vote for Harris then …
No vote for Trump either…!
Sure. But this story was about the Dem platform mainly …
They're both the same…!
Third party time.
If there was a political party in the USA that tried to hold Israel accountable for its actions, it would probably be the most popular, assuming that people were educated enough to understand the history behind the present Middle East war. But this party would run into the buzz saw that is the LYING MAINSTREAM MEDIA! It's always been the power elite vs. the people!
Agreed. 'Oct. 7' was another of their patent "reichstag fires". How many times now we have seen this very same template.
On 5Oct, the rave was approved and allowed to be conducted by the road to the IDF the Hamas fighters would be headed. Israel knew about the breakout and attack one year in advance. Of course is was a Reichstag fire.
We desperately need reform in campaign advertising and limits on funding.
The electronic and print media corporations should have to provide at least a minimum amount of free public service campaign advertisement. It is not democratic when candidates get eliminated because they can't pay for any advertising. FREE SPEECH is most important in any real democracy, factual debates are most important.
That is not much, but a little help to stop the public political manipulation of the people.
That's why websites such as this are so important. Fortunately, 'alternative' media are on the rise. And I see people really from all over the world, from all continents, getting together there. Because people all over the world are fed up with wars.
As you said, the people want peace, but the ruling elites want profits, and wars are profitable for them, but they sell the wars to the people using the promise of freedom and democracy.
ONLY WITH THE FIRST AMENDMENT and a limit on campaign funding could that be possible. That has been flushed down the toilet a long time ago.
Probably is third party time or revolution but there is still hope in Harris & for now that is where we should put our effort & energy. Harris could yet become more sympathic to the slaughter of women. & CHILDREN in GAZA. Her tough talk to protesters could give way under the weight of more disenchatment with Israeli mass murder of tens of thousands of women & children YET….!!! It' a long time till election day and Perhaps her better angels will wake up to the abomable suffering that the innocent Palestinian families are living!
"There is still hope in Harris"?
I can't understand how you can think that. In the past decades it has not mattered who was president – at least not for the US regime's foreign policy.
"That is where we should put our effort & energy"?
Here we go again. You have to break out of the two party system, which excludes candidates and which is one of the causes of the non-functioning of that fake democracy.
Her husband went to Davos, and amongst the most powerful and richest, said something about feeling alone and that the biggest problem that needed to be solved was antisemitism.
Then she pulled the royal, “I’m speaking” to shut down protesters. After blow back, she resorted to fig leaf, “meeting with activists”, followed by her talking head saying she’s against embargo.
Projecting what you (in general) wish she was, because she doesn’t directly articulate important positions like a blank slate, is no way to pick a candidate, or lover for that matter.
And the bullshit “working day and night for a ceasefire” should be the big tip off.
While I have no intention of voting for either Harris or Trump, between the two of them I suspect that Harris is the one more likely to 1) harbor “better angels” that 2) she doesn’t think she can uncage and put in flight if she wants to win the election.
“More likely” is far from certain. The main evidence for it is that we’ve already seen what Trump does when he’s in charge … but Trump is far more mercurial. He might wake up one morning, find out his golden toilet won’t flush, notice that it says “Made In Israel,” and decide to nuke Tel Aviv.
And btw, she’s a Clinton camp pick.
They Named Her Kamala: Clinton Staff, Donors Anoint 2020 Candidate

Another positive for Trump.
If one thinks that Harris would do a better job than Trump, not voting for Harris is a de facto vote for Trump. And of course, visa a verse.
visa a verse (sic)?
So are you not going to vote or simply toss away your vote? In any case, since this is a binary race if you don't vote for Harris or Trump, why even bother?
At the moment, I count 20 candidates with at least some ballot access, and another 480 write-in candidates.
500 candidates is not a binary choice.
Everyone who voted for Bush instead of Perot in 1992 wasted their votes. If those warmongers had voted for Perot and not wasted their votes on Bush, Perot would have been elected and the sexual predator Clinton along with his enabling wife, would have been defeated.
And, we'd still have a viable manufacturing base.
Harris is a lawyer, a former prosecutor, and a politician, any sympathy she might have been born with was beaten into submission long ago.
And Trump's is a convicted criminal, so the same applies to him.
And this is the best our two dominant parties can do. It’s time to start over.
And the biggest third party in the race will fall apart on Friday just so the leader can get a position in Trump's government. And Trump will fire him in six months the first time he says something that Trump will consider as an upstage.
And Iranclad is best operated in shallow waters.
The Monitor was anyway, the Merrimack grounded on the shoals during their battle.
I hope this is one of their lies. I have to imagine a strong tug on Israels leash would be more popular than the pols think.
it's Israel that is pulling the leash on the USA.
The USA has become Israel's vassal.
And it’s right out in the open! A version of Stockholm syndrome en mass.
In Spain, they were called Conversos. Conversos were the prime inquisitors who quickly changed affiliations and became instant Christians. Conversos were able to squirm in high office and take over colonial operation . They were physically indistinguishable so government implemented a family ancestry trace but these Conversos were able to thrive in both government and church leading to shameful results for both crown and cross. The clergy lost Old World support as protests fragmented the mother church. The Spanish crown meanwhile became indebted and eventually its dynasty got crushed in the French Revolution. The cross in the New World suffered poverty and became Third World nations as the Conversos, the wolves in sheep’s clothing, took advantage of the flock to gain wealth and power.
Thanks, the lesser known part of Spanish/European history and the Inquisition.
You are correct, you are imagining that.
The more we vote for change, the more the bad stuff stays the same. Or maybe they protest too much, that we would have to be utterly controlled by force to keep arming the racist murderers as the public relations masking their crimes falls apart.
I remember the Vietnam era, demonstrations became bloody demonstrations. No telling how much longer the war would have continued without them. Then too, the public did not know the truth, and there were conscientious not imbedded journalists.
Phoenix Program: CIA's TERRIFYING Vietnam Mission.
The bombing of Laos and Cambodia and the Pentagon papers.
The USA has a history of war crimes too. Mi Lai was one of them.

USA boys were dying in Vietnam. That is not the case in Gaza.
The sons of the working and lower middle class were dying, the kids of the elite, the war profiteers had student deferments, when that ended they demonstrated in the streets.
But there is a moral factor that should concern all of us regardless of political color.
The Phoenix Program gave us both Colin Powell and John Kerry.
the public did not know the truth
This time the public knows the truth, they've seen photos of the destruction, if they're at all active online they've seen photos and videos of the death and mayhem. And yet they embrace the people enabling it.
This time the public, manipulated since Kindergarten time, refuses to know.
New platform is the same old platform. …What's that? …Yeah, we decided to change it by name only. Don't have money for a "new platform" after we gave it all to Ukraine and Israel. But don't worry. Nobody is asking questions.
Democrat Party should be renamed "Disgraceful Party"!
The same goes for the GOP.
We have been asking who is pulling the strings, we get no answer, they buried the first amendment and democracy with it a long time ag.
Hey NA, no comment on one of your favorite catchwords "ironclad" this time?
LOL. No comment. Just a bad case of nausea.
Sometimes, it seems as though we are perhaps sleeping with the enemy… Or, perhaps, the enemy is us?…
I'm sure you have seen the famous Pogo line "we have met the enemy and he is us" …
@Donna Volatile "perhaps the enemy is us?"
Indeed, if people vote for either of the two party candidates. You have to break free from that.
Sick. What about an ‘Ironclad’ Commitment to the USA?
Nah, too old-fashioned … and no money for the masters of the universe … not gonna happen.
Are you kidding?
What exactly are those interests…?! Are the DemonRats or for that matter RetardiQAns brave enough to tell it to US voters…!
The Israelis have an irrational criminal government and the Democrats are determined to continue to support the massacre of the Palestinian people women and children included. Voting for them supports the most brutal annihilation of a people.
How could anyone with a conscience vote for them? The same goes for the GOP and Trump.
Voting for anyone of them is to vote for scum.
True change needs to come from within good Lysistrata.
When time allows do tell us about your name, if you would!

Not exactly the same, but pretty much like the Liberty issue is the sabotage by the US of NP2 in the Baltic.
Thanx. Remarkable.
From Caitlin Johnson:
Then they literally attack Trump for not going to war with Iran:
“In 2018, when Iranian-backed militias repeatedly attacked the U.S. consulate in Basra, Iraq Trump’s only response was to close our diplomatic facility. In June 2019, when Iran shot down a U.S. surveillance aircraft operating in international airspace above the Straits of Hormuz, Trump responded by tweet and then abruptly called off any actual retaliation, causing confusion and concern among his own national security team. In September 2019, when Iranian-backed groups threatened global energy markets by attacking Saudi oil infrastructure, Trump failed to respond against Iran or its proxies. In January 2020, when Iran, for the first and only time in its history, directly launched ballistic missiles against U.S. troops in western Iraq, Trump mocked the resulting Traumatic Brain Injuries suffered by dozens of American servicemembers as mere ‘headaches’ — and again, took no action.”
The Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, was one of the only decent foreign policy moves made by the Obama administration, and killing it was one of the nastiest things Trump did as president. But rather than pledging to re-enter the Obama era of de-escalation and detente with Iran, the Democrats are attacking Trump for not fighting a war with Iran while pledging ironclad support for the nation that’s doing everything it can to get that war started.
So, worse than Trump. And they don't even need John Bolton to achieve that.
Iron Clad Commitment to Israel currently is an Ironclad Commitmert to GENOCIDE…
IT SOUND LIKE ISRAEL MOST OWN US. How else would AMERICANS SIGN ONTO GENOCIDE OF THE NATIVE PEOPLE OF THE HOLY LAND??!
Human beings with a conscience would never sign up to any genocide, the brutal massacre of any people.
I believe the Israeli massacre of the Palestinians is much more brutal than any other massacre I know of.
Evil is Evil regardless of form or size.
Exactly…! The genocide nature of US started with the native Indians… Continued with dropping two nukes in Japan… and now helping Israel fully achieving it in Gaza…!

Massie also boycotted the vile Netanyahu love fest and butt kissing event by "our" Congress when they were celebrating the wholesale murder and maiming on thousands of children by US made bombs delivered by US made aircraft.
When criticised for his principled stand Massie said " I don't care what you call me, I'm not showing up for your war rally."
Massie should be speaker. But I would imagine he'd never get the votes. AIPAC would make sure of that.

Dual citizens elected to United States Congress should renounce citizenship in all other countries.
At a minimum, they should disclose their citizenship in other countries and abstain from votes specifically benefitting those countries.

We had "ironclad" support for Taiwan too but then that iron rusted in 1979, after Taiwan had been repeatedly assured "we stand with our allies." Taiwan and the US actually had a Mutual Defense Treaty which we don't have with Israel.
Good point. It is time for the a mutual defense treaty with Israel.
Israel would never consider themselves to be an equal worthy of a mutual defense treaty with anyone unless somehow somewhere there was another genocidal/apartheid Jewish fake-democratic State.
Israel would never consider any nation to be an equal to them, worthy of a mutual defense treaty with anyone unless somehow somewhere there was another genocidal/apartheid Judaist fake-democratic State.
Our Nation is Lawless, from the White House to Congress to Voters. What Human Being could vote for a Rep/Dem, knowing they are sanctioning, supporting Genocide? It is bad enough, that Americans have been brainwashed into thinking murdering a child in the womb, is humane, but now blowing off the heads of unarmed babies, children, mothers, is also OK. Americans need to decide what type of society we want to live in now and generations to come. We will not survive Lawless, Chaotic, Deviant, Immoral, Un-Constitutional Governing. We will be ruled by Zionist, the Republic will be dead. Where do we migrate to?
Forget about Canada as a refuge.
70 Pro-Palestinians protesters were arrested outside of the DNC carnival. Some were injured to the extent to to to the hospital. Journalists were arrested as well.
Don't break the police barrier and don't toss stuff at the police. That goes for journalists also. Just because one is a journalists that does not give one the right to cross the police line.
That's just your roundabout defense of Israel's brave IDF killing 100s of journalists in Gaza, right along with the children and women.
Did you notice that the fascist chant "USA!!! USA!!!" went up from the Democrats when the ceasefire banner was ripped down on the floor? A little Nuremberg. Someone called them Little Eichmanns.
Video of the banner raising etc.

"New Democratic Party Platform Pledges ‘Ironclad’ Commitment to Israel"
So did President Trump.
What does that tell you?
Which country is first?
Wake up Sheeple.
The USA is not going to let Israel go down. It is not going to happen, despite what the small Anti-Israel crowd wants.
Of course the politicians won't, because then they couldn't vote for Israeli aid, some of which comes back to their pockets via campaign $$$ and other methods.
