Some Republicans in Congress are celebrating the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who was killed in a helicopter crash along with Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and seven others in Iran’s mountainous East Azerbaijan province.
When the news first broke that Raisi was missing, Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) wrote on X: “If Raisi is dead, the world is now a safer & better place. That evil man was a tyrant & terrorist. He was not loved or respected & he will be missed by no one. If he’s gone, I truly hope the Iranian people have the chance to take their country back from murderous dictators.”
After Raisi’s death was confirmed, the State Department offered condolences to Iran, which outraged Scott. “What a disgrace. Since when does the United States issue a statement of condolence for a terrorist?! It should read: The world is a better place with Raisi dead,” he said.
Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) made similar comments in response to the news about Raisi. “Good riddance. Raisi was a murderous human rights abuser before and during his Presidency,” he wrote on X. “But look for the Iranian regime to blame Israel and the US for an assassination as another excuse to support terrorism.”
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) released a statement where he called Raisi one of Iran’s “bloodiest hard-liners.”
So far, Iranian authorities have not offered much detail about the crash, but said it was caused by a “technical failure.” Raisi was traveling in a US-made Bell 212 helicopter. According to The Washington Post, the average age of Iran’s Bell 212 helicopters is 35 years old, and they are difficult for the Islamic Republic to maintain due to US sanctions.
State Department spokesman Matt Miller said that the US would not apologize to Iran for imposing aircraft-related sanctions. “We are not gonna apologize for our sanctions regime at all. The Iranian government has used its aircraft to transport equipment to support terrorism. So we will continue to fully enforce our sanctions regime, including our sanctions regime on aircraft for use by the Iranian government,” he told Rudaw.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has confirmed that Vice President Mohammad Mokhber is now Iran’s acting president and said, per the Iranian constitution, he has 50 days to arrange for new elections.
They cheer the deaths of civilians including babies.
ghouls
These people within the US government would rejoice at the death of anyone they don’t like
He’s just blow’n smoke. There’s one word for it all, MEK/Mossad.
The only deaths that I would celebrate are Lindsay Graham and Mike Johnson for starters although with some thought I could thing of a few others I can live without.
Save a couple, I would rejoice the demise of the current administration in D.C., along with members of both houses of congress. They do the bidding of the donor class, not us.
So you are no different than them.
His successor could be worse.
Depends on in what way you would consider “worse”. Someone worse would perhaps tell the scientists (that are left after the assassinations by Israel) to get that bomb developed right now.
Are you rooting for Iran to have a nuclear bomb? Nice And are also rooting for a nuclear war between Israel and Iran?
What exactly did vlp1730 say that made you draw those conclusions? Looking at what was actually said, I would draw the exact opposite conclusions from what you are insinuating.
If the balance of power requires that Iran has The Bomb™ to counter Israel’s and America’s Bomb™ then so be it. Given past history, the US and its allies have a proven track record of attacking only those nations not possessing a deterrent nuclear capability, so- if only for self-preservations and not for offensive use- it would make perfect sense for Iran to develop a whole range of nuclear weapons.
A nuclear war between Israel and Iran is a foregone conclusion- Iran would need to strike only a relative few population centers to obliterate the Israeli government and military command structure, along with the majority of the Israeli population. Iran is a much larger nation, with a lot more real estate to target and a lot more places for the population to take shelter and recover.
Maybe Israel should give up their nukes and that way Iran might not seek nuclear parity, and Israel will no longer be able to bomb their neighbors at will.
The American Uniparty is the War Party
Simplicity is often best and saves us all a great deal of time CT. Thank you.
Anyone who does not see that is blind to the truth. We are in Orwell territory.
We have always been friends with Iran!
the DoubleSpeak of American Leaders is sad and pathetic. Hypocrisy and distraction and blamegame…par for the course….
We have always been at war with Iran.
If Rasi is any of those things our illustrious congress people claim he is, then, in comparison, Biden and Netanyahu’s death should create a worldwide celebration not seen before.
Lol and entirely relevant!
Just the fact that it’s our political officials and their mainstream media mouthpieces and western funded organizations saying all kinds of rotten things about Raisi and Putin and Xi and others makes me doubt the truthfulness of their claims without some kind of independent confirmation. They lie about everything. And they seem to be in the habit of demonizing people who don’t deserve it. Mike Pompeo regarding his time at the CIA: “we lied, we cheated, we stole.” He left out the part about “we kidnapped, we murdered, we tortured.”
The Ugly American personified.
Amazing that Rubio and Scott, as public figures are FAILURES at Diplomacy. Anyone in their position should show some class and SHUT UP, not attack the people of Iran. Their words are an attack on the people of Iran, at a time when coal is not needed on the fire in the ME. The Arrogance of Members of Congress is appalling and they all need to be voted OUT.
nowhere in this article does it reveal that it was a convoy of 3 helicopters.
3 helicopters and the 1 carrying the Iran prez manages to crash.
and there is this = the average age of Iran’s Bell 212 helicopters is 35 years old, and they are difficult for the Islamic Republic to maintain due to US sanctions.
but previously we were led to believe that “Iran is supplying war drones to Russia and weapons to Hezbollah etc”
but they can’t produce their own helicopters?
I read that on another news forum. What happened to the copter Raisi was on? Could the “technical issue” have been the work of someone on board of the copter. I would think that the copter pilot responsible for the important cargo would be the best of the best, and why were the important figures on one copter. The other copters made it to their destination. How did they get so separated from the one Raisi was on? Perhaps I am jumping at conclusions, but things do not sound right.
All three helicopters were told to gain elevation and fly above the upcoming clouds… The Raisi chopper failed to gain the necessary elevation and disappeared from the view of the other two helicopters. The two choppers search for it for a while but they couldn’t find it because of poor visibility below them, so to save fuel they continue on their destination… So, as it stands it was a technical issue…!
“but they can’t produce their own helicopters” Or buy new ones from Russia.
..and then Israel claims they are such a threat to them.
Israeli and USA “leaders:” don’t seem to understand that they are on the world stage right now with their pants down and their hands in the cookie jar! There will be NO living down what Israel/USA has done in Gaza and the West Bank! Every new act of violence against innocent defenseless Gazans/Palestinians is just another nail in the arrogant lying coffin of Israel/USA!
And it’s about TIME!!!
Raisi was a bad guy. But, there’s no hope of someone better (whatever that means) being elected as long as the US+ intentionally keeps the Iranian middle-class powerless.
Follow the money:
A strident Zionist [name withdrawn] donated more than $120 million to 180 Republicn Congressional and Senate candidates, and to several conservative Super Political Action Committees, including Preserve America and the [Republican Jewish Coalition] RJC Victory Fund. (Arab News 45-Ray Hanania- January 13, 2021)
My condolences and prayers for Mr Raisi, his aides, and the crew of the helicopter that perished together, and the same for the families of all the deceased. Mr Raisi- whether you regard him as a terrorist or a saint- was, at his most basic, a man with a family and he was taken from them and his nation unexpectedly.
