Over 100,000 people voted “uncommitted” in the Michigan Democratic primary to send a message to President Biden over his unconditional support for the Israeli slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza.
Biden still received 640,000 votes, over 80%, but 100,000 votes could make a big difference in the November presidential election since Michigan is a swing state.
A new campaign called Listen to Michigan urged voters to withhold their support for Biden until he calls for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. A spokesman for the campaign said the over 100,000 votes exceeded expectations.
“We have led a movement that is far exceeding expectations, using the ballot box to urge America to stop killing our families,” said spokesman and Democratic strategist Abbas Alawieh, according to NPR. “That’s all we’re asking for. Just stop killing our families.”
Alawieh made the comments at a watch party in Dearborn, Michigan, where the majority of residents are of Middle Eastern and North African descent. Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud supports the campaign and said the purpose is to “bring the morality back to this country.”
Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), who is of Palestinian descent, took part in the campaign and said she was “proud” to vote uncommitted. “When 74 percent of Democrats in Michigan support a ceasefire, yet President Biden is not hearing us, this is the way we can use our democracy to say ‘listen.’ Listen to Michigan,” she said.
A new poll from Data for Progress found that 67% of American voters believe the US should call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and a general de-escalation of violence. But President Biden refuses to call for an end to the brutal campaign and is pushing a hostage deal that includes a temporary six-week truce.
In the meantime, Biden continues to provide unconditional support for the mass killing of Palestinians despite the massive civilian casualty rate and the International Court of Justice ruling it’s plausible the Israeli campaign is “genocide.”
The only thing this is likely to accomplish is that immigration quotas from Arab countries will be suddenly and dramatically slashed.
You may not have thought through this carefully enough, Warren. That’s not going to happen.
More likely than not if they continue to oppose the regime’s agenda.
The regime’s agenda absolutely does not include deliberately alienating more voters who are desperately needed to prevent an ignominious defeat for Biden in November. And that’s exactly what the sort of sudden retaliatory reaction you expect would cause.
Nobody knows who makes these decisions on immigration and from where. Do you?
We know Trump will do that. Remember the Muslim travel ban? On January 27, 2017, President Trump signed an executive order that banned travel to the United States for 90 days from seven predominantly Muslim countries–Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen–and suspended the resettlement of all Syrian refugees.
Trump does what Trump thinks is good for Trump. Biden facilitates genocide and made America complicit. Expect nothing good. Take your pick.
Only there is no genocide.
This coming from someone who called the Oct 7th Hamas attack an attempt at genocide. And one in which the IDF participated in.
Yes well you know, Holocaust denial is a thing, people denying genocide because of ideology is a thing. It is a particularly effective and despicable way to irredeemably debase oneself in the shortest time possible. So congratulations on your achievements here.
The purpose of the Israeli actions is to eliminate Hamas, and to punish kidnappers and rapists.Hamas could end this mess by returning all the hostages pronto-which they will never never do-They will play with them like a cat with a mouse.
The purpose of both Hamas and the Israeli’s is to eliminate each other.
Biden would be a fool to force Israel into a ceasefire by stopping the aid to Israel. He would lose the Jewish vote, the Senate would turn on him and Trump would use this as a rally point against him. That action would cost Joe the election.
Yeah, Tim, it would be foolish to stop a genocide and risk losing an election. Who would do that?
100,000 votes is substantially more than the 2020 margin in Michigan. And Michigan is one of the six swing states that Biden can ill afford to lose.
Keep watching the news.
First, the idea that Biden can just click his finger and war would be over is silly.
Second, the genocide chant is a great PR move by Hamas. It started within days of the Israel counter act. All those civilians that have died in Gaza is a direct result of Hamas building their forts under civilian properties.
Third if the Arab voters in Michigan want to vote out Biden and replace him with Trump, that is a really dumb thing for them to do.
“First, the idea that Biden can just click his finger and war would be over is silly.”
No, it’s exactly a description of reality. One phone call by Biden, backed up by following through, would end this. Israel would have no choice.
And you’re a terrible excuse for a human, Tim.
The genocide is a reality. Israel chose a Palestinian Holocaust as a policy. The PR move – and Israel has exclusive access to the Western press to launch PR campaigns that are sure to be picked up unquestioningly and subsequently enhanced, not Hamas – that was launched after the Hamas military operation that induced Israel to apply the Hannibal directive and refelectively kill their own citizens was that Israel has the ‘right to self defence’.
Well, as an occupying power they don’t. They do however have sacred duties to the security and well-being of the people of their occupied territories. But since Zionism is their religion and as the racist death cult that they are, they chose instead to systemically mass murder Palestinian civilians and ostensibly took the Jewish Holocaust not as the ultimate historical warning it actually is for any person with any semblance of a functioning moral intuition, but as a guidance and virtual instruction manual.
I hope no one feels blackmailed into opting for the evil they know. You cannot possibly go worse than support genocide. Doing so should call into question your claim to humanity.
I was saying this months ago re the Hannibal directive after reading Israeli press reports on the matter. People on here like Tim Burns and others called it a conspiracy theory among other adjectives.
Yes, dropping 25,000 tons of bombs on an area of 140 square miles packed with 2.3 million people from Oct 7th through Nov 9th was a Hamas PR move.
Yep, Hamas knew the counter attack was coming and it would be hard. That is why they started their genocide chant very early on.
25,000n tons of bombs on an area that size with that many people in that amount of time didn’t need Hamas or anyone else chanting genocide. It was obvious. And that was on top of cutting off aid, electricity and water. Although the water was already horrendous before the genocide even started with an estimated 96% of it being contaminated. Of course, that’s how the prisoners in that outdoor concentration camp were treated beforehand.
“Keep watching the news.” LOL, Dissident51, my brother. I have news for you. Tim is the NEWS!
No, he is the old news…!
LOLOL. Agreed.
Yeah, being seen as giving the weapons to slaughter children is a winning election strategy.
Well the Democrats have no problem with the murder of millions of defenseless human beings through abortion and these are Americans doing so. So why wouldn’t they believe slaughtering children in another country be a great boon to their winning?
Did you miss this:
67% of US Voters Favor Permanent Gaza Ceasefire
Of course they said that. Just like 95 % percentage of Miss America contestants want world peace. Who would not be in favor of the end of the war in Gaza? I am for it. Now how to get their is a different story.
When presented with arguments from both sides on why or why not to support a permanent ceasefire, 50% said the US should call for a ceasefire right now
So, there a start of at least 50%. At worst it’s a dead heat. And you are NOT in favor of a permanent ceasefire when presented with both sides of the argument.
I have express more that once, that once the kidnapped victims are release Israel should pull out of Gaza, seal the border and let Gaza alone to become what they want to become. That is a permanent ceasefire.
What you have expressed is complete justification for anything Israel does. Israel has made it known that the hostages being released will only mean a temporary halt to the ongoing slaughter. So, when that happens will you then call it a genocide?
I haven’t seen Donald Trump running over to Tel Aviv to cheerlead for this bloodbath in Gaza.
Might have been better to vote for somebody, i.e. some real person. That way one might get a delegate at the convention.
Anyway, good to see Mr. Uncommited is getting traction. I bet them people who voted for Uncommmited never thought they’ll be voting for Trump come November as a petty crook is better than a mass phycho’ murderer.
Very few of them will vote for Trump. Any votes for “other than Biden,” or simply not voting, will increase the chances of a Trump victory, of course, but that’s a terrible reason to cast votes for a genocide enabler.
If there are enough uncommitted votes depending upon State law, they can get a delegate at the convention.
Ok then, I’ll support Uncommited. I will even campaign for him. At least I know Uncommited did not commit any crimes.
Kudos to Michigan for actually having an “uncommitted” choice on its ballot….! Most states do not have that choice, and of course Not Voting does not make the 6 o’clock news…!
I hate to throw cold water on this one but I highly doubt that most of the people voted uncommitted based on Israel. Why do I say that? Because I’m from Michigan and I never even heard about this “campaign” until After the primary. And you can look at the counties all across Michigan and see that over ten percent statewide voted uncommitted. Here in the Great “White” North, it was still at least 10% per county and we have just about Zero Muslims and Nobody that I talked to had heard of this campaign.
Dearborn with it’s high population of Muslims had a far higher percentage, but that didn’t add up to anything like 100,000 votes although it is likely the only place anything like a real campaign took place.
I’d suggest that outside of the Detroit area, that very few of the people who voted uncommitted did so because of Israel.
Yes, I’m also from the Great “White” North (not too white, snow wise, this winter) and I only heard about it here.
God Bless El Nino, best winter Ever.
By far. We’ve had about two weeks of real winter.
Sixty-seven percent of Americans of all political affiliations want the U.S. to join the international call for a permanent ceasefire, according to a Data for Progress poll.
Doesn’t mean they heard about this campaign or that it’s even in their top ten issues. Not to mention you can find polling numbers even higher for other issues such as inflation, the boarder, etc.etc. Support for ONE issue is rarely the reason people vote and even then you would have to convince most people that Trump is better on this issue, most don’t believe he is. At best the issue cancels itself out.
Therefore even if 100% of people wanted a ceasefire, so what? It still has nothing to do with why MOST people in Northern Michigan, who never heard of this campaign, voted for uncommitted.
I talk to a ton of people around here, I don’t know ANYONE who refused to vote for Biden based on that one issue. If I hung out in the college towns then I’m sure I would have, but not in this area.
I’m not in Michigan, but very committed to not voting for any supporters of genocide in any and all elections.
Does your state have “uncommitted” choice…?
We don’t have open primaries and I am not registered under the uniparty.
In my Communist State of Washington we do have a presidential primary and if you want your vote counted (as if you can trust it is counted legally) you have to identify yourself as either a Demonrat or a Republican.
The Communist State of Washington has its presidential primary on March 12 and the ballot had a box under the Democrat (sic) side “uncommitted” so it will be interesting to know how many in this state vote that.
The problem is that if there are enough uncommitted votes, they can be delegates and vote whomever they want to vote for. So the Communists could actually get one of the most ardent of them elected as president.
Article states: “Alawieh made the comments at a watch party in Dearborn, Michigan, where the majority of residents are of Middle Eastern and North African descent.”
Why not identify properly which is Muslim?
Pretending that immigrants of Lebanese Christian descent are “Muslims” isn’t “properly identifying” them.
I really can’t understand how any America can be a Democrat or vote for one as that party is so close to the Communist Party that you can’t tell the difference.
There seem to be a lot of things you really can’t understand. It’s unsurprising that one of them is “what is communism?”
