Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH), chair of the House Intelligence Committee, made a vague public warning on Wednesday about an unspecified “serious national security threat,” prompting accusations that he did so to pressure the House to pass the $95 billion foreign military aid bill that just made it through the Senate.
US officials later told the media that the “unspecified threat was related to Russian space capabilities and a plan to develop a nuclear weapon that can target satellites. For their part, Russia dismissed the claim and said the US was “making up malicious stories.”
Turner called for the Biden administration to declassify information about the so-called threat and he has come under fire from some members of Congress for making the public spectacle. Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) wrote a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) calling for an inquiry into Turner’s decision to release the information.
Ogles said Turner likely did so to bolster support for passing new aid for Ukraine and for extending Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which allows mass warrantless surveillance of Americans. Section 702 was due to expire but was extended by the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act until April 19.
“It has become clear that the intent was not to ensure the safety of our homeland and the American people, but rather to ensure additional funding for Ukraine and passage of an unreformed Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act,” Ogles said in the letter.
Before making the comments about the national security threat, Turner was urging Johnson to bring the $95 billion military aid bill to the floor. He also recently led a congressional delegation to Kyiv and has been calling for continued US support for the proxy war.
Called it yesterday, obvious.
Oh, no! A new missile gap! Quick, increase the war budget!
No doubt! Really, the only people who benefit by this endless boondogle in Ukraine are the sharholders at War Inc…
The only people who benefit from this are you Kremlin folks. 🤷🏽♂️
It certainly does not help Ukraine, whose people are dying in vast numbers for a lost cause, unwinnable.
Russians are losing more.
I don’t know about that. Medvedev seems to think the Ukes might win…

Oh, so this was to prevent us, the miserable, plebian public from — panicking. What miserable manipulative shysters these guys are.
If Section 702 is extended, it must include prison terms for bureaucrats that abuse this authority. One of the Snowden revelations was that NSA personnel were using that authority to spy on their spouses, to see who they were having lunch or communicating with. They did this with impunity because of their immunity (no poetry intended).
Turner gets campaign funds from the defense industry, Information Technology companies, and AIPAC

It’s only a threat to the amount of his campaign donations.
He probably gets money from Putin but let’s keep this between you and I.
🤫
That doesn’t make any sense, troll
The thing is he’s not even a good troll. He’s incoherent most of the time.
Make up your mind, Russian troll.
Am i a Troll or disabled veteran with brain damage due to burn pits exposure?
You are whatever your current rhetorical flourish necessitates like all neocon scum.
There is no way that Turner would leverage this information to rally support to push through the stalled aid package to Ukraine and Israel.
Absolutely no way!
😉
PS – please keep an eye out for waves of killer weather balloons looming over the horizon.
“The Party said that Oceania had never been in alliance with Eurasia. He, Winston Smith, knew that Oceania had been in alliance with Eurasia as short a time as four years ago. But where did that knowledge exist? Only in his own consciousness, which in any case must soon be annihilated. And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed -if all records told the same tale — then the lie passed into history and became truth. ‘Who controls the past,’ ran the Party slogan, ‘controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.’ And yet the past, though of its nature alterable, never had been altered. Whatever was true now was true from everlasting to everlasting. It was quite simple. All that was needed was an unending series of victories over your own memory. ‘Reality control’, they called it: in Newspeak, ‘doublethink'”
Touche’ So timely……………..
Scare tactics are what got many Americans to go along with the killing of Iraq.
And so many others.
Turner was right to alert the public. He did nothing wrong and revealed no classified information. The American public has a right to know how agressive Russia is.
Aggressive? Russia? How many countries has the USA invaded and bombed over the last 20 or so years? Compared to the USA Russia is pretty docile.
Sure. To you Russia can do whatever it wants because the US has done it.
Your dumbass repeated come back. As usual.
How many of those countries did the US annexed.?
But let’s check Russia; Chechnya, Georgia, now Ukraine and they continue threatening other neighboring countries.
You stupid pig.
I’ve never said that Russia can do whatever it wants. I’ve consistently condemned their invasion of Ukraine while noting that they do in fact have legitimate security concerns re Ukraine housing American nuclear weapons as a part of NATO. I agree that the three examples you noted are examples of Russia enforcing its local hegemon. I see it as inevitable. As inevitable as the invasion of Mexico would be if Russia or China tried to form a military alliance with it. This isn’t hard, but you can’t seem to grasp the concept of realism. You equate my opinion that Ukraine cannot win against Russia as being pro Russia because you are a moron.
Great news. Thank you, Dave.
We all hope it passes
Remember, Trump will make America great again. Can’t wait.
😉
Trump is a jackass. He wont make anything great again.
Also in the news…..
Avdiivka…….
Tick-tock…..BOOM! Done.
Next!
Time to reevaluate the “active defence” strategy.
I sure hope they constructed all those fortified defensive positions Zelensky was talking about a couple of months ago. I’m sure construction has gone according to plan
The house just went on a two week vacation and the speaker of the house said he’s not bringing it to the floor for a vote. Don’t get your hopes up you neocon war pig.
Ok Nazi.
Says the guy who literally supports Nazis.
Navalny Killed by Putin.
And the dipsh!t russian propagandists here claimed without any evidence that he stole money.
Nazi Putin is a coward.

Correct. But remember that Russia blew up Nordstream so what did you expect?
“so what did you expect?” I, we expect more lies and misrepresentations by both sides. BUT sending more printed money to Ukraine wakens the dollar and our country!!
I care more that Ukraine killed Gonzalo Lira.
Of course you do.
It’s expected.
Of course it’s expected. He was an American citizen.
And you are Not so stop the BS, troll.
Prove it you little bitch.
Check out this headline from our illustrious MSM.
1st Ukrainian City Falls Since US Became Deadlocked In Sending More Military Aid
Yeah, that’s kind of silly. The Russian forces have been trying to take Avdiivka since the war began and their proxy forces started trying to take it (briefly succeeding) in 2014. Like Bakhmut, it was always going to fall if they were willing to pour enough blood on it to drown it.
Not silly, sickening. Trying to rally the public to support more military aid for Ukraine.
The Russians were encircling it, attempting to trap and destroy large units of the Ukraine Army, including the 110th, 47th, and 3rd Assault Brigades, plus apparently smaller parts of many more units.
They missed. They did a lot of damage to those units and their equipment, but large parts of all those units escaped encirclement in a last minute withdrawal through the closing jaws of the encirclement.
No doubt attrition of those units was severe, according to social media reports coming from soldiers of those units. The 3rd Assault had soldiers posting that they were fighting “360 degrees” in a moving box to get out, rather like the Marines did when withdrawing from Chosen Reservoir. But that is escape, not a win, and it costs.
That the Russians now have possession of some ruined land, resembling a WW1 battlefield, is really not the point of it all. The Ukrainian Army is now in new defense lines, just behind this fight, and on shorter lines they are still able to improve and develop, before the Russians come again. It is all about to re-run, on the new defense line.
It won’t end until, like WW1, the attacker can’t come again, or the defending army disintegrates. Even a partial disintegration is not final, as witness the French Army mutiny of 1917, the British Army collapse before the 1918 offensive, and the Italian Army collapse. The real collapse is fundamentally political, as with the Russian Army in 1917 and the German Army in 1918.
This guys gets it.
There is also an organized campaign of lying to the American people, on social media, using identical language in a flood of posts. All support sending aid to Ukraine.
All untruthfully assert that the US sends no money to Ukraine. They say, in identical words, that all money stays in the US, pays for US weapons, and only the weapons are sent.
In reality, the cash assistance to Ukraine has been billions and billions of dollars. They just lie to us. https://www.cfr.org/article/how-much-aid-has-us-sent-ukraine-here-are-six-charts
It is a campaign that hit my social media last night. Since money is fungible, ultimately our aid money is used to pay to lie to us, in an effort to mine the US for more money (as a gamer would put it).
