Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to fire Ukraine’s top general, Valery Zaluzhny, a move that could backfire due to Zaluzhny’s popularity inside Ukraine.
Ukrainian media outlets reported that Zelensky told Zaluzhny that he would be moved to another post but that the general refused to step down as commander-in-chief. Other reports said Zelensky told Zaluzhny he would be fired, but for now, he remains in his position.
Zelensky’s office has denied there was a conversation about Zaluzhny’s firing, but Ukrainian sources speaking to the media say it’s just a matter of time before the general is sacked. Sources told POLITICO that the reason why he’s been spared so far is because Zelensky is afraid of creating a powerful new political rival.
Zaluzhny has long been rumored to be a potential future presidential candidate once Zelensky allows elections to happen again. He has not officially announced intentions to enter politics, but polling has shown the Ukrainian public trusts Zaluzhny significantly more than Zelensky, making him a real political threat.
“So far, Zaluzhny has not decided to enter politics, but he is considering this option, and the president’s office is afraid.” one source told POLITICO. “I know for a fact that Zaluzhny is going to be fired, but it was not supposed to happen on Monday and it didn’t.”
Zaluzhny and Zelensky have long been at odds, a spat that spilled out into the public last year after the general called the war against Russia a “stalemate” and said there would be no breakthrough in Ukraine’s counteroffensive. The comments drew a sharp rebuke from Zelensly, who claims Ukrainian forces can still gain territory despite the reality on the battlefield.
According to The Washington Post, the latest spat between the two is over Ukraine’s plans for new mobilization. Zaluzhny says he needs up to 500,000 new troops to match what Russia has mobilized, but Zelensky believes that’s impractical since Ukraine is short on uniforms, weapons, training facilities, and funds.
The Post quoted a Ukrainian battalion commander who said sacking Zaluzhny, who is popular among the military and civilians, would be a disaster. “This is a catastrophic step,” the battalion commander said. “When this becomes official, we’re screwed. The morale of both the military and society will go way down.”
If the citizens of Ukraine both speaking Russian or Ukrainian want to avoid their country being turned into a bigger shithole they must fire and eliminate Zelensky and let the Generals make peace. The US must be pushed out of the talks. They have a vested interest in keeping war and destruction alive and well.
Weapons manufacturers are making record profits now, these wars are a big windfall for them and whoever’s election campaigns they are propping up.
Russia’s economy is being lifted from arms production too.
If I was truly conspiracy driven, I might consider it a big game played by international oligarchs to enrich themselves. What’s weird is that some countries involved in war are still involved in trade with enemies.
Russian economy is doing well because Russian companies replaced the western ones on Russian market. It is also a time of great opportunities for China/Russia, Iran/Russia and other Asian economic projects. Of course, Russian private military business also doing very well but they have only a small share of the military goods market. Russian MIC is mostly owned by the state.
Thanks for the laughs. I enjoy how delusional you guys can be.

Ukrainian generals are serving to US oligarchy the same as Zelensky. Putin offered them in the spring 2022 to take political power in their hands and start negotiations. They refused. NATO pay them well and they are determined to carry with this war as long as possible. They never go to the frontline themselves, so they are okay.
Too bad, what we need are more dead Generals and politicians
It is NATO standard. In Russian army they have different rules. Russian generals go often to the frontline. They think, it is important for generals to demonstrate their personal courage.
And that’s why many of them are dead.
Not so many but some of them are killed, that’s true. Still they believe they are doing the right thing.
I can still see Patton with his pistols
No, they go because they are the only ones given out orders. If they are not out there, nothing will happen.
There’s no delegation of authority.
Your Russian Army sucks, period.
More Russian generals?
Well, Ukraine has been working on it, give them more time. they have taken out plenty of Russian ships and Generals.
“The tragedy of modern war is that the young men die fighting each other – instead of their real enemies back home in the capitals.”
– Edward Abbey
BS Russian propaganda.
Always repeating crap.
Last time Ukrainian citizens unseated Yanukovych, you Russian supporters blamed it on the West and claimed that all previous Ukrainian international agreements were annulled hence Putin taking Crimea.
Now you want Ukrainians to do it again? What a contradiction.
Make your mind up.
By the way, the country that is really turning into a shithole and another North Korea is Russia thanks to Putin. It is a real mess there and they have not even gotten invaded. Lol
The Ukrainian military should keep the top general and oust Zelensky. Zelensky seems delusional with this war, anyone of the generals there must be more realistic.
Trust me guys, Ukraine can still win this thing. They are still “moving forward.” I have it on good authority that they are getting ready for a “thunder run to Crimea.” There’s no way that political instability could lead to the current regime’s collapse.
Only Russian army can force the collapse of Kiev regime. No other way.
The Kremlin regime will collapse before Kiev does.
Ukrainians are more united than ever thanks to Putin.
Ukrainians are united in their wish to run away from Ukraine. They pay now $20 000 for getting out from that shithole.
Haha, nice try.
I can tell you have never been Ukraine.
Shithole? It explains your hatred towards Ukrainians and why you are so mad they taking your Army apart.
The real shithole now is Russia and it will only get worse for you there, you d bag.
That’s just another way of saying there will be no collapse of the Kiev regime.
If the regime collapses, it will be internal or via the wishes of the US state department.
Correct.
Why would US state department change pro-American Kiev regime? They can think only about making it even more pro-American and even more crazy Russophobic.
To change it from inside is also unrealistic. Zelensky, Zaluzhny, Poroshenko or Timoshenko, they are all the same and all of them are ready to do any dirty job for good money.
I don’t know if they will. But they might just change out the top circus clown because the people are starting to hate him and the last thing that they would want is Ukrainians overthrowing the government, outside of their control. They want the fairytale of all Ukrainians in solidarity against the evil Russia and behind whatever actor plays heroic leader “saving democracy”.
Too many negative stories are leaking about Zelensky. He may be more trouble than he’s worth, in other words. For all we know, they wanted them leaked. Because before this, they put a lid on anything that diverged from saintly, noble heroism. Now there are plenty more about him being a narcissistic leader intolerant of criticism.
Editing to add: maybe the US plans to split up Ukraine.
If they decide to change Zelensky for Zaluzhny, it will not be a regime change.
It looks, they are reluctant to remove Zelensky because a lot of money and efforts were invested in his PR.
He may be demanding too much. Or the US went back on deals. Remember when he issued a not so veiled threat about how if Ukraine didn’t receive funding, it might unleash chaos in Europe from Ukrainians’ fury?
Little man might’ve gotten too big for his britches, in their eyes. And if they want to do it, they will smear him six ways to Sunday and call him corrupt ( which he is). Then they could top it off with sanctioning him.
When the US makes regime change, it is someone who doesn’t challenge US authority and keeps their mouth shut. It doesn’t always require a completely different party or ideology.
“if Ukraine didn’t receive funding, it might unleash chaos in Europe” – sure in that his blackmailing he has full American support. One of the reasons of all this bloody mess is the wish of US oligarchy to weaken Europe.
Even though he is a shit stain for his complicity, this interview is instructive about what happens to someone who would like to whistleblow:
https://thegrayzone.com/2023/07/13/bidens-corruption-led-to-ukraines-destruction-fmr-kiev-diplomat/
Of course, especially Germany. But publicly claiming retribution against allies does not sit well in the overarching narrative they have constructed where Europeans and Americans have sympathy and respect for Ukrainians, not fear.
They don’t want allies believing that Ukraine is composed of “terrorists”. At least not unless, at a later date, they have to fund a new war on nazis or some other descriptor to keep the MIC gravy train running.
Yes, Ukraine is a real terrorist state. Many Ukrainians, maybe about 30%, think it is normal because there is a war with Russia. That is one of the reasons why Kiev regime is standing strong and capable of crushing any opposition. The other reason is a lot of money which they are receiving from The West. Many people are serving to the regime because it is profitable.
Before February 2022 Kiev regime terrorized mostly those regions who always voted for pro-Russian candidates but now the terror regime is total in all country.
The point flew over your head. Reread.
My comment concerns thegrayzone.com
You are still missing the point that the purpose of propaganda is altering perception. And sometimes it requires musical chairs.
thegrayzone?? Wow.
Great source.
Russia is the real Terrorist State and you are a big loser now desperately posting non sense comments.
Your side is losing, start advocating for your troops to be returned home and stop dying for Putin’s personal war.
Bring them home, Mikhailovich.
Man, the Russian war must be going horrible.
You sound like Vladimir Solovyov, from victory talking to conspiracy talking.
Lol.
Russian propagandist.
What, exactly, is the Russian army waiting for?
They are waiting for US move an other pawn (Poland).
More likely, they’re degraded to the point of ineffectiveness.
That’s why NATO is launching it’s largest exercise since Cold War? It is due to start this spring.
For those who know nothing:
Georgian army attacked South Ossetia and Russian peacekeepers exactly at the end of US/Georgia military drills.
Just a little “hello” for your boy Putin.
A miracle.
Hahaha. True!
Hey fluffer, you need to worry about your team Russia.
They are the ones struggling. The so called second strongest army in the world cannot even take Krinky against 15 dudes with small guns… But… there are very good at committing war crimes, I’ll give you that.
Bring your Russian troops home!!!
It’s really sad watching you deteriorate like this. Like I said you really need to get to your nearest VA hospital and get checked out for burn pit exposure. Your brain seems to be deteriorating at an ever increasing rate. Or maybe you live in an area where they still use lead in the pipes for drinking water? Either way you need medical help ASAP.
You are the one deteriorating. You are the one hating on Ukraine’s still been able to fight off your shit Army.
I support Ukraine and if that means I’m a sick Vet with brain damage, then so be it.
I will continue supporting Ukraine while you support Putin and Hamas so eat a dck, you d bag.
Like I said elsewhere your chemically adled brain cannot parse the difference between analysis and support.
I’m thinking he’s just a drunk..a self absorbed, arrogant drunk who calls himself “rational thinker” when he is anything but. Arrogance is a cheap suit that looks good on no one.
I label him a fascist. But yes he admits to day drinking so he seems to be an alcoholic who uses alcohol to cope with his sub conscious guilt for all the horrible shit he did when he was “serving his country.”
Back to the usual name calling and the reactive pedestrian comments. I guess it’s an open forum, but your typical banter is rather repetitive.
Anyway, this is not a good thing for Ukraine and would be the viewed in the same light as Gerasimov getting the boot.
Zaluzhny is considerably more popular than Zelensky and this move will work against Zelensky as Jon Met described it with his great summary above. Zelensky is and should be real worried; his top general basically told him to f*ck off.
What I don’t get about you, is that you will accuse absolutely everyone as pro-Putin as soon as objective/factual comments are made stating current state of affairs (like the failed counter-offensive failed and is now being called ‘active defense’, pitiful territory reclaimed in 2023, that Ukraine will not reclaim anymore territory and stands to lose even more without direct EU/NATO intervention, etc.). You immediately start with the name calling and your other BS. Often times, your comments are not informed and incorrect.
There’s a psychology behind that. It’s unfortunate, but I get it.
There is incredible propaganda from both sides, but where you fail, is in taking a step back and looking at these conflicts from from a neutral POV and just calling it for what it is. Russia is nowhere near fully engaged and can do a lot more. Ukraine simply can’t do any more and is in quite a predicament; things can/will turn really bad for Ukraine much more so than for Russia. What next? Are you going to deny this is a proxy war?
The other item you fail in realizing is that the unipolar/hegemonic grip the Empire has had on a global scale since 1990 onward, is failing and what we are currently witnessing is global ‘reordering’. Of course the Empire controlled media will spin the narrative to state that these literal and pending failures (Ukraine, Gaza, Asia Pacific, etc.) were strategic moves and whatever the end result is, well, “we meant for it to turn out like that.”
The US has to realize that it can’t pull that $hit anymore. Period.
It’s still pulling that shit because no one else has the global reach of propaganda.
I only read your first paragraph and I must say, you are late to the discussion.
Go back in archives and check out who started the name calling and insults.
Then come back and try lecture me again.
Yes, I’m repetitive because I support Ukraine and need to repeat my position and stand up for them against all the Putin lovers here.
That’s great that you support Ukraine and I’m glad you realize how repetitive your comments are. Self-realization is an important first step.
One thing the archives have confirmed is that you’re hung up on d-bags and directing people to suck dck.
It’s unfortunate that you are challenged and have difficulty with all of this.
You refuse to accept reality. Your RFK Jr support and vaccine denial are proof. Keep it up. RFK Jr bleeds votes from Trump and your kind will die from the next pandemic (or Taylor Swift’s witchcraft — whichever come first).
Says the person who predicted a “thunder run to Crimea” when all indications were that the counteroffensive was collapsing. As far as the election goes I hope RFK, Jr. siphons votes from both major parties and wins. Speaking of vaccines, how many times have you had covid after your “vaccination.”
I’ll keep saying: I wasn’t wrong until the Ukes are dislodged from Kherson.
I have never had COVID-19 because I used an N95 mask at my job (medical) until I received the vaccine and 2 boosters.
Your comment was in the context of you linking to tweets claiming advances towards Tomack so you were obviously referring to a “thunder run” last August. The fact that you now want to twist your words to apply to some hypothetical future is pathetic. You know that 40 to 50% of covid cases are asymptomatic so you probably had it and didn’t really notice. Since you work in “healthcare” I’m surprised that you are unware of what the actual risks of covid are. Don’t you value data and science? We know from early on that if you are under 70 and healthy your risk from covid is very, very low. Speaking of boosters why did you stop at 2? Covid is still out there and the CDC is recommending everyone take the latest booster. Don’t you trust the CDC?
I’ve had the latest booster.
Keep on trying with my Thunder Run comment. You seem to believe that when it doesn’t happen immediately, it won’t happen. (It’s your linear thinking.) You choose to deny reality to comfort yourself. You create a narrative to soothe your immature brain development; much like a teddy bear or favorite blanket. I feel bad for people like you until you polute the gene pool.
According to CDC recommendations your should be on booster 4 by now and you’ve only had 2? Are you a vaccine denier?
Grow up.
You first. You’re the one labeling people “vaccine deniers” when you don’t know jack shit what you’re talking about. So what’s the matter? Why aren’t you following CDC recommendations? Are you a vaccine denier?
If it isn’t Mr I love Putin so much coming after supporters of Ukraine.
How is your emotional damage going?
Do we need to stop our support for Ukraine so you feel better? Lol
How is your battle of Krinky going?
Come on, man, there’s only 15 Ukranians there. Hurry up and finish it. You can’t suck that bad.
No, you do. And now you are in the medical field too? Lol
More fascist tears please.
I get all of my advice from Taylor Swift. (That made your manhood shrivel just then, didn’t it?)
Who’s advice do you take? Kid Rock, Ted Nugent, or Jon Voight?
This jackass, is not from the US, he gets his advice from the Kremlin.
Yeah. Thought he named himself after the former mayor of Philly — as you know was a friggin’ Nazi. Turns out it’s from some video game or something I don’t really give a s**t about.
He’s definitely a MAGA, Incel-type, “alpha male”. He reads some BS and repeats it like it’s gospel but it’s really some childish ranting by people who also believe that Q-anon garbage. I just hope he eventually un-Fs himself. I don’t know; maybe with healing crystals or something!
So yes, you are a vaccine denier who doesn’t follow the recommendations of the CDC? Why won’t you address this issue?
I typically form my opinions after reading through the primary peer-reviewed literature on any given subject. So, for example, unlike most people I knew by late April 2020 that covid risk was age stratified with a very steep mortality curve. I knew that if you were under 70 with no comorbidities your chances of dying or even being hospitalized were very low. By the late 2020 I knew the risk to under 70 was from 0.45 percent all the way down to .002 percent in young children. In other words well within the range of risk we lived with every day of our lives pre covid.
Narcissistic much ?
Do you even know what that word means?
Do you think your dog knows how ignorant you are?
I do, and she does.
I think you should get a couple more boosters just to be safe.
Sarcasm, right ?
Yes.
I wonder how many Generals have Putin fired or had killed over the last 2 years.
It looks a good idea. Zelensky should oust them all. Then take his family and go to Israel under protection of Netanyahu.
Very interesting point from a Putin lover.
The conflict has been known to Ukrainians and Russians for a long time, but Biden-loyal media have kept a lid on it, in effect lying by omission about Ukie politics. Both in the U.S. and Europe. Now the Financial Times, which is often fed official information from Ukraine and gets exclusive interviews, has leaked the story, and it’s the first time people in the West hear about this. Those who didn’t follow the websites and YouTube channels that revealed the conflict long ago.
A bit more background. Zelensky asked Zalushny to step down voluntarily and get another post, and he refused. This we know because of parliamentarians loyal to the former president, Poroshenko.
Zelensky planned to put the spy chief (or rather assassination chief as he seems bored by intelligence work) Budanov in Zal’s place, a man with no experience commanding forces. But according to the MPs Budanov then changed his mind about the job. In effect, going over to the other side in this conflict.
This is why Zelensky couldn’t fire Zalushny immediately. He has to find some other general who will agree to take his place.
Now, why doesn’t Zalushny want to leave his post? One reason could be that it is easy in today’s Ukraine to find reasons to prosecute anyone. For example, by arguing that Zalushny mishandled his job when he allowed the quick Russian gains in the beginning of the war. Thereby removing Zalushny from the presidential race, which he would surely win.
Zalushny could try to hold on until Zelensky’s term ends in March. Zel has said he doesn’t need to hold an election under martial law, but Zal could argue otherwise and with the other generals demand that he steps down. More, or less, a coup. Once out of office it could be Zelensky who is prosecuted instead – there is plenty to investigate him for.
So both Zalushny and Zelensky have reason to hold on for as long as they can.
If Zalushny wants to take over as president – and he’s likely to win – what would he do? He criticizes Zelensky but has always followed his demands in the end, and he has no plan for ending the war, which he is just as committed to as Zelensky.
Who else, then – Poroshenko? He signed the Minks II agreement with Russia and Donbass, but said during this war that he only did it to buy time to build up an army (for invading Donbass). He never stopped shelling Donbass, and neither did Zelensky. The Russians would loathe dealing with him, who caused the war in the first place by not breaking the signed peace deal.
Zelenskyy should put in charge whoever is destroying the Russian navy!

Thanks for the post because you know very well, Dave DeCamp would never post such article.
Well, there was this:
GENERAL TO GENERAL
A potential peace is being negotiated in Ukraine by military leaders
And recently, within the last few days, there was a successful prisoner swap in spite of the last attempted exchange where the plane was shot down. Nuland was just there, so what kind of monkey wrench did she toss in? What kind of blood laced cookies did she pass out this time, with the US deploying nukes to the UK?
Nuland visited. Nothing good ever comes from this. Read the comments too:

The Bild publication writes that Zaluzhny wanted to withdraw troops from Avdiivka a few weeks ago, but Zelensky refused him this and on December 30 he personally went to the city to the front line to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters.
So all the coffins that arrived from near Avdeevka to Ukraine since December 30 are solely on the conscience of Zelensky and his passion for narcissism.

I’m with Zelensky. All I needed to know was that for the last couple of years Zaluzhny has been writing his PhD thesis–while conducting a war. WTF?!
