President Biden has sent a letter to senior members of Congress urging them to quickly approve the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey as Ankara’s reward for approving Sweden’s NATO membership.
The Turkish parliament approved Sweden’s NATO bid on Tuesday, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed off on the ratification on Thursday. Erdogan had previously said that he expected to get the F-16s as part of a deal worth $20 billion once Sweden’s membership was approved.
Biden sent the letter to the top Republicans and Democrats on the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee and urged them to approve the F-16 sale “without delay.”
According to The New York Times, the four members of Congress have not yet given their approval and might want more assurances from Turkey on certain issues, such as Turkey’s recent airstrikes against Kurds in Iraq and Syria. The deal is expected to ultimately be pushed through, but possibly not as quickly as President Biden would like.
Sweden still needs Hungary to approve its membership before it can join the alliance. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said Thursday that he accepted an invitation to meet with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to discuss Sweden’s accession into NATO.
Biden is a bloody WAR LORD????!
The hell you say….. 😉
Yeah, yeah. But not Putin, he is a peace activist like you. 🤣
Israel Congress most likely won’t approve this deal because Turkey has shown its opposition to Israel genocide, and Erdogan would get the short end of the stick…!
When has Biden done ANYTHING for Peace in his entire lifetime? If you believe in hell, it has a special circle for winners of the lifetime warmongering award.
“When has Biden done ANYTHING for Peace in his entire lifetime?”
Well, he completed the withdrawal from Afghanistan. A little late versus the terms of surrender Trump negotiated, but better late than never.
The way U.S. hightailed out of there, it looks more like the Taliban told U.S. you have 24 hours my “frriend.”
Your nuts if you think, that US was responding to a Taliban threat.
U.S. responded to a loss of control over Afghanistan for 22 years. Nothing more and nothing less.
Yes, but did he do it for peace or did he do it because other wars had higher priorities?
Let’s tell our Congresscritters Erdogan wants to give them to Putin. LOL
FJB
Impressive. The USA gets Turkey to do what it wants and the reward is Turkey gets to spend $20 billion on US equipment. It is like telling your kids to cut the grass and as reward they get to buy you dinner.
