Axios reported on Monday that Israel has proposed to Hamas, through Egyptian and Qatari mediators, a two-month ceasefire as part of a multi-phase deal that would include the release of all remaining Israeli hostages.
The report comes a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly rejected an offer from Hamas to free the hostages in exchange for a ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli troops, and the release of thousands of Palestinian prisoners.
The Israeli offer would not end the war, but the two-month period is the longest ceasefire Israel has offered so far, according to the Axios report, which cited two Israeli officials. The previous hostage deal, which freed over 100 Israelis and over 200 Palestinians, involved a three-day truce that was extended up to seven days.
Israeli officials said the new Israeli proposal made clear they’re not offering to end the slaughter in Gaza, which has killed over 25,000 Palestinians. They are also not willing to release all 6,000 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons but would enter negotiations to determine how many Palestinians would be released for each type of Israeli hostage.
The first phase would include the release of Israelis over the age of 60 and hostages who are in critical medical condition. The next phase would include the release of men under the age of 60, Israeli soldiers, and bodies of hostages who have died.
It’s unclear if Hamas will go for the proposal since they would lose any leverage they have over Israel by giving up all the hostages or if Israel would be willing to release enough Palestinians to get the deal done. Hamas is also calling for a complete end to the Israeli onslaught.
The news of the proposal comes amid reports that Israel’s ground campaign in Gaza is faltering. Israel is nowhere near close to its goal of eradicating Hamas and is far behind on its military goals, which included taking over the cities of Khan Younis and Rafah by the end of December. Hamas is also reasserting its presence in areas of Gaza City after Israeli forces withdrew.
This war will go on for generations.
Or until all of Palestine becomes a secular democracy.
Which is not going to happen.
The entire world is turning against Israeli genocide piled atop years of racist apartheid.
Oh h*ll, the world will have amnesia concerning everything once the killing and transfer is done. Does anyone remember what happened after Cast Lead, or Protective Edge? Nothing was done. It will be the same.
That;s exactly what Israelis are counting on. But can the US afford to keep them on the dole for that long?
Yes. The US policy toward Israel is not going to change.
The entire world is not going to replace the nation of Israel.
I didn’t say replace. What happens to the welfare case when its support goes broke?
Taking their word is equal to trusting a thief he’ll never steal again.
That too, … they don’t have to honor it anyway … their lawyers are up to any amount of turning lies to truth.
Hamas has stated more than once that they are determine to attack Israel again in the future. So, yea, trusting Hamas to abide by the cease fire is crazy.
The future is now… Hamas just greased 21 Zionist pigs at Khan Younis refugee camp in Gaza…
HURRAY!
Coming a person who cheered Hamas Oct 7 attack, I am not surprised at your celebrating this defeat by the IDF today. But remember, those deaths were purchased by how many Palestinians lives?
Purchased?…
Those innocent Palestinian lives were stolen by your Zio friends but they will pay. The 21 thugs were just the first installment.
Hamas is resisting the Occupation, so the only solution is for Israel to get OUT, OFF Palestinian Land. Israel needs to recognize a Palestinian State and learn to live peacefully side by side. The Palestinians have the same RIGHTS as Israelis, not greater, or less. A temporary cease fire will not work, it needs to be permanent and an immediate declaration making Palestine a State.
Where are Israel‘s borders ?
Help me out here.
Here ya go.

Winner Winner Chicken dinner !
Although I agree with Thomas, there seems to be a consensus that Israel is entitled to all of the land taken in the 1967 war.

Wrong – the only internationally recognized borders of the Jewish state remain those described in UNR 181 (1947)
Every thing else is a cease fire line.
That is not true. Egypt and Jordan signed peace agreement with Israel that defined borders between their countries. Those borders are accepted internationally.
You might want to close read those agreements – they define the borders very much in accordance with 181
Thanks for playing better luck next time
There are several opinions about that. But even Hamas accepts the 1967 borders.
“While Hamas’ 1988 founding charter called for the takeover of all of mandate Palestine, including present-day Israel, the new document (2017 Charter) says it will accept the 1967 borders as the basis for a Palestinian state, with Jerusalem as its capital and the return of refugees to their homes.”

Interesting how moderate Hamas is in their goals – thank you for highlighting this
75 years ago that was true for what? 1 day. Or something like that. Anyway, parts of Israel borders are well define by peace treaties between Egypt and Jordan. Others in the North are defined by cease fire lines. (Like the boarder between North and South Korea)
Israel is the only nation on earth that refuses to delineate what its boundaries are. Guess why?
Land Confiscation
Source from http://www.ifamericansknew.org
The state of Israel, established in 1948 by its founding war, has appropriated approximately 91 percent of the land in what originally was called Palestine.
About 90% of what originally was called Palestine is now called Jordan, so the math doesn’t work very well on that claim.
I thought this was helpful.

The only challenge with your article is it’s mostly half truths – read the UN declarations in orginal and you’ll note a very big difference between a temporary crasefire line and a permanent border.
Read the exact wording of the Jordanian and Egyptian Peace treaties and you’ll also note extremely precise language on the border question
Not hard to see through this. (1) BB taking heat from the hostage families, (2) IDF claiming non-response to pre Oct. 7 intel was made on the political level, (3) Hamas offensive is futile, army needs to turn on Hezbollah and east to West Bank, (4) ICJ genocide decision imminent, (5) PR gamesmanship, and (6) blackade/starvation, etc. continues anyway.
If they did make this offer no sooner the hostages where released they would resume the bombing but on a greater scale , the Zionists are about as trust worthy as the yanks who support them.
And Hamas is equally untrust worthy.
Agreed. Can’t see any reason Hamas should trust the word of Netanyahu and his gang.
Plus they will not leave. That means the occupation remains.
reports of ceasefire discussions.
thank God
first good news on this site in a while
I think the discussion pertain to Gaza. No mention of the settlers in the West Bank going berserk. Of course, after any swap of hostages, the bombing will continue. The act by the Zionists by razing the cemeteries, then running the bulldozers over the bodies is proof positive that the Zionists goal is to remove all vestiges of the Palestinians. A main building of a college was shelled, looted of archeological pieces, then the rest was leveled.
I’ll believe the Axios story when Netanyahu validates it in public.
It’s Clear They Won’t…!
They already rejected it.
This sounds like it is not being offered in good faith. The IDF can’t launch a full war against Hezbollah to seize the territory they want because they are stretched thin. They might need this break to invade Lebanon, then in a couple of months finish the ethnic cleansing project in Gaza. They are also counting on the US and their lap dog Britain to help out.
The problem for the Zionists is that Hezbollah has yet to escalate. The Zionists are banking on it to happen so as to bring us into the mess, while we are perhaps invading Yemen. A widened war for 2024-2025, and it will not matter who has the White House, what will the bulk of congress being afraid of the money being cut off by AIPAC, which should be forced to register as a foreign agent, because it is the lobbying arm of the American Zionist Council, which some senators wanted to be forced to register as a foreign agent. Neither have anything to do with America, but 100% for Zionist Israel.
When the big war erupts, and the world is distracted, the Zionists plan to destroy the Dome and build the Temple which precedes the coming of the Jewish Messiah.
Only fools would trust the Americans or Israelis.
Why should Hamas give for nothing in return? Have Israelis no shame, no decency?
They can’t understand why they are hated, they should ask themselves why they should not be hated.
Just more Bibi propaganda for the millions. He really believes he’s on some divine mission to cleanse Israel of non-Jews, destroy the Dome and build the Temple which is supposed to facilitate the coming of the Jewish messiah. I don’t think this plan will go anywhere. But, if Hamas refuses it, Bibi can say, ‘see, they don’t want peace.’
