Pakistan said Thursday that it carried out airstrikes targeting militants in Iran, which came after an Iranian attack on Pakistani soil.
Pakistani officials said the strikes targeted seven locations used by ethnic Baloch militant groups known as the Balochistan Liberation Army and Balochistan Liberation Front. Pakistani warplanes and drones hit targets about 30 miles inside Iran in the Sistan and Balochistan province.
Iran condemned the strikes and said the attack killed nine foreign nationals, three women, four children, and two men. The Iranian Foreign Ministry said it “condemns the unbalanced and unacceptable action of Pakistan in the drone attack on non-Iranian citizens in a village on the border wall of the two countries.”
Earlier in the week, Iran launched unprecedented missile strikes in Pakistan against Jaish al-Adl, a Sunni Muslim militant group that took credit for a December 15 terrorist attack against a police station in Rask, Iran, which killed four people.
Nuclear-armed Pakistan strongly condemned the Iranian strikes and said they killed two children. Both sides are calling on each other to do more to deal with the militant groups that operate along the Iran-Pakistan border.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said it “expects the friendly and brotherly government of Pakistan to adhere to its commitments in preventing the establishment of bases and armed terrorist groups in Pakistan.”
How long before all these regional wars morph into the big one…you know, WW3, the one that the U.S. keeps pushing for.
You had to blame it on the US. Wow.
How easy.
You probably blame the US every time you get sick. Lol.
Just the U.S. Government.
This is not what we are told, not what it “seems” in the Western Press.
Pakistan has some very remote areas along its border with Iran, areas that are quite independent of the central government, tribal. In fact, they have an independence movement. Meanwhile, Iran has some similar areas along its border with Pakistan. Rebel groups attacking each country have sanctuary in the remote area of the other. The rebels are troublesome even in their sanctuary areas, even to the country in which they are hiding, linked to rebels there. But they are both much more of a problem across the border.
Neither Iran nor Pakistan has cared to devote serious resources to fighting the rebels who mostly trouble somebody else — not their worst problem, and an expensive problem worth avoiding.
From their points of view, each attacking the troublesome rebels in the sanctuary areas on the other side of the border is a win/win. Someone else deals with the problem, and they get to deal with their own problems.
Of course they bluster in diplomatic public display. But in fact, so long as they can avoid stirring blowback at home, each is happy to see the rebels hit. They just don’t want any domestic troubles from the locals who help shelter those rebels, and who don’t much like their own government either.
So no, Pakistan in not going to nuke Iran over this. They are privately relieved. Iran is not going to escalate against Pakistan, because they too are privately relieved.
Thanks for the explanation. Makes complete sense.
Wouldn’t it be wild & weird if the IRI and Pakistan were giving each other intel for strikes on their “problems”.
That is what happened when Pakistan helped the US strike border areas of Pakistan that were sanctuaries for Afghan rebels. So, weird yeah, but not new or unique.
Tho…as I recall…wasn’t Pakistan openly annoyed that the US was striking groups within its territory ? Even tho it was Al Q or Talibanese. I think their protestations were just to seem like they weren’t complicit in the strikes to prevent blowback.
As I recall, it depended on which group the US attacked. Some were closely associated with Pakistani intelligence from the days of working against the Soviets, while others were more rebellious and also associated with independence movements inside Pakistan.
Thanks for the explanation. So, are we all good!?
Psss psss,
I heard Nuland and Sullivan are on the ground giving new weapons to both sides. Including nukes.
But don’t tell anyone, it’s a secret.
You can blame the US now.
Woah
meanwhile the price of gasoline in Iran is approx $1.40 US per gallon
That may be changing, because the price and the cost are two different things. The Iranian regime heavily subsidizes domestic gasoline purchases, to the tune of $100 billion per year, and is considering switching to different social welfare programs because so much of that subsidized gas gets smuggled out and sold abroad.
Just came here to see how quick the US haters/Dictator lovers blame the US for attacks between Iran and Pakistan.
There’s a struggle on who to support but im betting the same group will go for Iran as it is lined up with Hamas and Russia.
Very predictable, just go with the side that is most anti US.
🤷🏽♂️
