French President Emmanuel Macron was in Israel on Tuesday and said the US-led anti-ISIS coalition based in Iraq and Syria should also fight Hamas.
“France is ready for the coalition, which is fighting in Iraq and Syria against ISIS, to also fight against Hamas,” Macron said alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Macron did not specify what he meant by “fight” Hamas, but the comments suggest the French leader was proposing the coalition could directly enter the war in Gaza, which would be a major escalation. Macron’s office later suggested he was talking about intelligence sharing.
“The international coalition against [ISIS] does not limit itself to operations on the ground, but is also involved in the training of Iraqi forces, the sharing of information between partners, and the fight against terrorism funding,” Macron’s office said, according to Reuters.
Macron’s comments are the latest sign that Israel’s Gaza onslaught could escalate into a major regional conflict. There are 2,500 US troops in Iraq and about 900 in Syria that are part of the anti-ISIS coalition, and their bases have been under drone and rocket attacks due to President Biden’s support for Israel. The US has vowed it will respond to attacks on its forces in the region.
There’s also the risk of Hezbollah opening a second front for Israel in the north if Israel invades Gaza. Israel and Hezbollah have been trading fire across the border, but there’s no sign yet that Hezbollah plans on launching a major attack.
I am absolutely certain that Macron came up with this idea all by himself with no guidance, requests or hints. Right? 😏
What day is it?
Not needed. Of course, Hamas capturing and killing Western civilians did not help Hamas cause. But still, a coalition is not needed. Israel can handle Hamas.
Huh? Apparently you have not read this: https://en.royanews.tv/news/45693/Interview%20of%20%27Israeli%27%20hostage%20revealing%20kind%20treatment%20by%20Hamas%20now%20deleted
Just read it. Pure nonsense.
Between hamas and israel i now realize that i dont have to make a choice between two entities, Both sides are repulsive at this point. They make me sick.
Its like i am always supposed to make a choice, hamas or israel, republicans or democrats. Choose the lesser evil and cast your lot.
I say no, i will choose the one who is acting within the bounds of honor and ethics and the one who looks after the innocent and trodden upon as they would themselves. If neither side does, Then i choose neither side.
Both are wrong and i will not side with either of them.
And in the end I find, Now I am free. I have found freedom in its very essence. A true freedom of expression of individual choice.
In Amsterdam where I grew up we would say: “wat een klootzak”.
In France, it’s “Quel connard!”
ISIS was the creation of western spy agencies. ISIs have caused more deaths and destruction in myMuslim countries than anywhere else and have provided excuses for such western governments to continue their occupation and domination , and spreading havoc and chaos in many Muslim countries and maintaining the oppressive regimes in the region.
Sounds like what Osama Bin Laden was saying.
These EU leaders seem so ignorant. Surely they must realize that Israel is just implementing the wishes of the Zionist majority and cleansing the natives from their land, a land inhereted directly from God Himself. Surely they realize that Israel cannot be seen as helping the natives to leaves as this would be considered against international law. So they want the natives to leave “voluntarily”. The voluntary departure is incentivised by making life unbearable. Surely the EU Commission and EU leaders must be aware of this, n0? As for the American troops in Syria, are they supposed to leave Syria and intervene in the ethnic cleansing? Surely Macron knows better. Com’on man!
If Macron is convinced this is the way forward, why doesn’t he roll out the French military and get involved? Whether the US does so as well should be irrelevant- or does Macron, like so many others, lack the courage of his convictions to do the ‘right thing’ as he sees it? I seem to remember the French Foreign Legion and assorted Army units having a grand time in Lebanon in the early 80’s.
Methinks Macron is experiencing an extensive, extended mental breakdown, or that he has his head lodged. The man reverses his view of world events on a nearly daily basis.
