At least 80 people have been killed in a drone attack that targeted a graduation ceremony at a military college in Syria’s central Homs province on Thursday, the country’s health minister has said.
The Syrian government said members of the armed forces and civilians were among the casualties. Health Minister Hasan Ghabbagh said the 80 killed included six women and six children, and 240 were wounded.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put the death toll higher, saying over 100 people were killed, but the number isn’t confirmed. Ghabbagh said his casualty figures were based on “initial data,” suggesting the official death toll could rise.
Syrian Defense Minister Ali Abbas was present at the graduating ceremony, but reports say he left about 20 minutes before the drone bombardment. In a statement, Syria’s military said the attack was conducted by “armed terrorist organizations supported by well-known international parties.”
The Syrian government did not blame a specific group. After the attack, Syrian strikes were reported in the northwestern Idlib province, which is mainly controlled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, an al-Qaeda offshoot.
According to The Cradle, the Syrian army targeted the headquarters of the Turkic Islamic Party, an extremist Uyghur group based in Idlib that wants to establish an Islamic State in China’s Xinjiang region.
One has to wonder if were originally part of a Ukraine consignment.
Great minds think alike. (Sarcasm)
Does that mean you two are not great minds or you don’t think alike?
LOL. Analyzer, clearly Robert is–not me. (See sarcasm above). But I did have the same thought before I forgot it. I can’t seem to retain my thoughts or gas. By the way, that movie, the Matrix, was incredible. But I’m glad you’re the new virus/agent. I didn’t like the old one. He was too intrusive with his anal-yzing if you know what I mean. LOL. Love you, man! (Sarcasm)
See, when you throw that “sarcasm” around like candy, it’s hard to read you. Or perhaps that’s your strategy to keep your reader guessing?

I thought I was not being obnoxious enough, so I removed all doubt. LOL
It appears that another civil war is ramping up in Syria and this time,
Putin is too busy to defend Assad. The odds that Assad will have the Gaddafi treatment in the near future.
This is nothing new. Nothing whatsoever. HTS has taken over Idlib, meaning control over a dozen of former Salafi movement members that opted for transfered to Idlib as a surrender deal with Syrian Army. HTS in the end lost all battles and after Aleppo was limited to Idlib. But HTS has funding help from US and UK, and White Helmets were HTS associates. All White Helmets were evacuated quietly to Jordan and Germany. Because US and UK shield HTS, supplies to the region that UN controls through Turkish territory are used by HTS as a means of controlling Idlib tribes and former rebels alike. Which makes it hard to resolve Idlib problem, However since Turkey ousted Kurdish YPG from Afrin and prevented HTS from pushing Idlib population into Turkey and create refugee chais
So nothing new. What s new – HTS handlers decided to go on offence. HTS was quiet for too long. And somethig as simple as bombing a graduation ceremony yielded high casualty rate. Ukrainian principle — high impact, optics.
This may have been a bad move. HTS has made enemies in Idlib.
It is tiresome to have to suffer ignorant reporting that cannot figure out that groups that crossed over to Turkish control no longer are in Idlib and are not under HTS control.
There is no councidence that US warplane shutvdown Turkish drone over Syria. Russia does not have to play a lead role as it did during conflict. Now, Syria is back in Arab League, and has diplomatic relations in the Gulf. There is now depth to Syrian frozen conflict, and we shall see now if this hight optics easy tsrget provokes reaction that tests the waters,
Being in the Arab League means nothing. The Arabs will turn on Assad in a moment because the agreement between the Arabs is not even worth the paper that it is written on.
Kind of like agreements with the US?
Bianca, Are we trying to educate an Al-Qaeda operative while he’s celebrating his terrorist attack? Oh sorry. He’s not one of them? Ok… If not that, he might be a Ukrainian Na$i or $ionist. In other words and regardless, a total waste of time on a loathsome, sickening, nauseous, repulsive, revolting, repugnant, abhorrent, and detestable person. He must have either that “Gaddafi treatment” or “someone” cackling like a hyena on constant replay. (Sarcasm)
US=HTS=Idlib. US long ago made Idlib province a terrorist controlled enclave and remains in charge of it. HTS is a US-supported and beloved jihadist. As such the issue of “control” or worry about “making enemies” doesn’t apply to him. As to HTS’s “handlers deciding to go on offense,” his “handlers” are the US. The US still illegally occupies one third of Syria, won’t even let starving Syrian children grow crops on the land.
“Another” civil war? When was the last one?
March of 2011.
I suppose if you want to call a manufacturer consent a civil war than yes.
Ok, I will play along. What would you call it ?
What part of “Manufactured consent” was confusing?
So West Point and Annapolis are fair game I assume?
I seem to remember Trump tried to pull us out of there.
The Generals disobeyed him.
Trump quacked about pulling out of there, then was talked into continuing and escalating instead.
Escalating how?
well, at one point Syria was a nice place to live and even visit.
i know this because the liquor store guys in my L.A. neighborhood are all Syrians, and they told me that life there was beautiful.
until the uncle sam fostered “rebels” pretended that the legit prez Assad was some kind of bad guy and should be overthrown.
google = Estimates of the total number of deaths in the Syrian Civil War, by opposition activist groups, vary between 503,064 and about 671,000 as of October 2023.
Thank you.
I was trying to bait Thomas Knapp.
Yes, you are correct. That happened under Obama and Killary. We spent years listening to NPR say “Evil Diktator Assad”.
I read a great piece by an Ex Marine who was studying the ME about Syria before the Color Revolution.
Dam if I can find it now.
The US is the Empire of Evil.
Trump asked his generals if he could assassinate the entire Syrian government prior to one of his missile strikes. He also had to be talked into giving Russia a heads up by those very generals that had “disobeyed” him. Why? Because his daughter bought into Assad doing chemical attacks on his own people.
hey man, you mess with Knapp at your own peril = the man is the moderator here and it is not because he is a dim-wit. i recommend that you don’t try to outsmart him.
edit = anyway, all of the rest of us here are allowed to say what we want …. just watch your mouth
“watch your mouth” = don’t say the J word in a derogatory manner…..
spy
oh noes….
Your scaring me…….
The J word? What word is that?
Quadrupling the troops that Obama had there and having them fire more artillery rounds than were fired in the entire US invasion of Iraq.
I don’t believe that.
Well, I was being conservative — it was more like quintupled than quadrupled.
And “Protect the oil.” “We have the oil.” “We kept the oil.” The guy is a THUG, exactly as much as Biden and Killary. (Sarcasm)
LOL nice try but at no time did Trump ever do the right thing
The generals didn’t “disobey” him, they didn’t have to. Trump publicly surrendered his Commander in Chief role to “his generals” in April 2017. He knew the Pentagon had been completely ignoring him, so he thought this move might make it look like his lack of involvement had been his idea. Not that anyone had been worried, but Trump made it clear he was a total pushover.
JFK didn’t surrender to them.
And look what happened to him?
So, instead he did two missile strikes, imposed draconian sanctions that could starve millions and decided to sit on their oil fields. And this was after the massive artillery barrage he did. Now imagine if he would have whined about those generals disobeying him like he has continuously whined about the “rigged” election.
Not sure I believe that timeline. I will have to go back and look.
I do remember the NeoCon press praising Trump for the missile strikes.
“Finally acting presidential”.
Which Arty barrage? When the Russian Mercs got whacked for attacking the US Al Queda proxies?
ISIS captured those oil fields early on didn’t they?
ISIS, Moderate Head Choppers, I can’t keep them straight since they are essentially the same groups.
It wasn’t a single arty barrage. It was during the Raqqa campaign that US forces fired more than 40,000 artillery shells, more than used in the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and about 2/3 as many as used in the 1991 war.
Thanks.
The Raqqa campaign against ISIS? You think Trump was personally running that?
I seem to remember the Marine General in charge being given full control by Trump.
Where previously as ISIS controlled cities were attacked under Obama, they tried various ways of attacking them with long drawn out bloody
sieges that allowed many ISIS to escape.
Somehow I doubt Trump dictated the plan for the battle of Raqqa.
Trump was the commander in chief who ordered that operation, put that Marine general in charge of it, and celebrated the results as a major accomplishment of his administration.
Here’s more on the missile attack:
Legendary investigative reporter Seymour Hersh is challenging the Trump administration’s version of events surrounding the April 4 “chemical weapons attack” on the northern Syrian town of Khan Sheikhoun – though Hersh had to find a publisher in Germany to get his information out.
Trump was told that no evidence existed against the Syrian government but ordered “his generals” to “retaliate” anyway.

Thanks. I follow Hersh 🙂
What I did not realize was the influence Ivanka had on Trump in office.
Netanyahu Had ‘Tense’ Call With Trump Over U.S. Plan to Leave Syria, White House Officials Say
The conversation revolved around Netanyahu’s concerns that the U.S. will withdraw from Syria and allow Israel’s enemies to gain a further foothold in the neighboring country, say White House officials

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly urged President Donald Trump to keep US troops at its military base in southeast Syria, Bloomberg reported on Saturday.
Bloomberg’s report cited a senior U.S. diplomat, who asked to be anonymous, saying Netanyahu has “Trump’s ear” when it comes to Syria, while several senior Israeli officials said he Israeli Prime Minister stressed the importance of the US base in Al-Tanf near the Iraqi and Jordanian border.
The mere presence of American troops “will act as a deterrent to Iran,” the Israeli officials said. Since 2016, Al Tanf has served as a training ground for Syrian rebels and as a strategically important point for counter attacks against Islamic State fighters.

Interesting. Well, the NeoCons and Israeli’s were the driving force for destroying Iraq and Syria, no doubt.
Ron Unz at Unz review has a historical analysis of the NeoConservatives and their record in American Politics.
Written in Blood.
Syria’s military said the attack was conducted by “armed terrorist organizations supported by well-known international parties.”
“well known international parties”, really? who could it be now.
just don’t say it out loud.
Like Voldemort in the Harry Potter series, we musn’t mention the USA. oops
OMG dude did you just say “oops” ?
effin guy MF you are helping to make US policy hilarious again
what
You guys stop it with all the US policy hilarious jokes. People like Nuland and Blinken are slaving away to produce such evil.
What
(Sarcasm)
He was definitely excessively polite about it, but he was also definitely “winking,” when he said it. Like you know, ..like he knows that we know that he knows all about the “well known international parties…” (Sarcasm)
Thank goodness Syria invited us to militarily to occupy their country or that would be like what Russia did to Ukraine or what Israel is doing to Palestine or what the USA did to Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, 1/2 of Mexico, central and South America…etc . Oh let’s not forget to honor Columbus day. Can I take your( I mean to) Reservation…
Columbus Day! all yalls genius MF’s
They needed our “freedom and democracy” like they needed holes in their heads, which were exactly what they got. Oops. Sorry. While I was at it again, I managed to $hit moral superiority on their face. Why do they hate us? (Sarcasm)
I don’t expect to see this news reported on Fox …
