Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday and said Moscow would return to the Black Sea grain deal if sanctions against Russia’s agricultural industry are lifted.
“I would like to confirm again our position of principle: we will be ready to consider the opportunity of reviving the grain deal. I told [Erdogan] today again, and will do this immediately after all arrangements set in it on lifting of restrictions on Russian agricultural exports are fulfilled,” Putin said after talks with the Turkish leader in Sochi.
One of Russia’s main demands to revive the deal is reconnecting the Russian Agricultural Bank (Rosselkhozbank) to the SWIFT payment system. A few days before the Putin-Erdogan meeting, the Turkish news agency Anadolu reported that the UN proposed reconnecting Rosselkhozbank’s European subsidiary to SWIFT and unfreezing assets of Russian companies producing fertilizers in Europe.
But easing sanctions would require action from the US and its European allies, and the Western powers are denying that sanctions are impeding Russian exports. For his part, Erdogan said after the meeting that he expects an agreement on the matter to be reached soon. “As Turkey, we believe that we will reach a solution that will meet the expectations in a short time,” the Turkish leader said.
In the meantime, Putin said Russia would export one million tons of grain to Turkey, where it will be processed and then shipped to poorer nations for free.
Putin also reiterated his reasons for ending Russia’s participation in the grain deal, saying the West did not live up to its end of the deal of facilitating Russian agricultural exports. He also accused Ukraine of using the humanitarian corridors set up by the deal “for terror attacks against Russia’s civilian and military facilities.” Since the grain deal was suspended in July, Russia has been bombarding Ukraine’s Black Sea and Danube River ports.
Putin never mentioned the sanctions. He talked about the failure of NATO to comply with the grain deal.
Putin IMHO is telling the truth. The US and its stooges are lying for their own nefarious reasons. Putin is no saint in shining armor but he is better then most of the people the US supports and installs around the world. Putin stands up for his countries rights and freedoms. I can’t and won’t say the same about Biden and his militaristic followers.
For the majority of Russian people, Putin is a saint in shining armor. There is a knight defeating a dragon on the old Russian Christian emblem. That’s how they see Putin. Most Russian people see the war between Russia and NATO as a religious one or, if you like, ideological. The territories are important but no one cared about them 10 years ago when the rise of Nazism and Satanism was not yet so obvious. Now even Russian Muslims are talking about jihad.
Since “Biden is the only adult in the room,” he can answer why this war is a better outcome for everyone than just giving Russia its security guarantees in the first place? But, please skip the part about “Ukraine is free, democratic, and winning.” That’s not an answer even if true. (Sarcasm but still threw up in my mouth from typing it)
Biden is a senile adult with Dementia. That he is POTUS and probably will run and win again says volumes about the politics and wisdom as well as the future of the US and humanity
I fo5rgot to add that the possibility of Trump winning is diminishing it is not zero.
Biden doesn’t have dementia. i saw him on TV the other day and he didn’t miss a beat. he didn’t slur his words or make up new words or even hesitate.
The powers will not allow him to be the president.
Give Russia security guarantees when they won’t honor the security guarantees of neighboring countries.
Not going to happen IMO, because Biden is too much in love with his role as Arsehole in chief of planet Earth.
I voted for him. To rid us of Trump. Now, I hate seeing his eyes squinting at the teleprompter, his hands out in front of him, reaching nothing. He could end the proxy war tomorrow. He could also be dead by noon for doing it.
“I hate seeing his eyes squinting at the teleprompter” Me too, but do you like his adlib stories? LOL. I love you, but just like messing with you for some reason. (Sarcasm)
“In the meantime, Putin said Russia would export one million tons of grain to Turkey, where it will be processed and then shipped to poorer nations for free.”
Brilliant chess move. Putin just captured a wealth of soft capital, while exposing Washington for a soulless Simon Legree.
Biden playing at politics with Putin is not an even match. Biden is not qualified to be in the same room with any intelligent leader.
Of course, Biden’s not in the picture; it’s the firm of Blinken, Sullivan, & Nuland plus the WestExec’s Avril Haines, Michele Flournoy, Gina Haspel, ….
if you want some food then you better get off our back
By get off our backs, did you mean let Russia annihilate Ukraine?
The West promised, but the West lied. It is the same as both Minsk Accords. It is the same as the Iran Deal. The West is not “agreement capable.”
The West could have done what is needed at any time, in a moment, just by turning on SWIFT for one agricultural bank. It refused.
Russia can safely offer just about anything, because the West cannot accept.
Do you mean will not accept?
That’s got to be a confession. Putin and the Kremlin have claimed that the sanctions don’t work and that Russia is stronger than ever.
He didn’t think this war through.
The US and its NATO puppets did not think this war through. Now, they have lost it.
They have lost Ukraine, they have lost NATO, and they are losing the petro-dollar with nothing to replace that oil backing (that had replaced gold backing).
They risk nuclear war. They risk Russia rolling right over more of NATO. They just keep digging this hole of disaster.
BRICS is getting stronger. When the shift away from the all mighty dollar as a means of exchange hits stride, the only thing we will have left is a real war. ot a warm and fuzzy thought.
🤣 Ok. Kim Jong Un. 🤣
Death to America!!!
“Putin Tells Erdogan Russia Will Rejoin Grain Deal If Sanctions Are Eased”
Russia agreed to the original grain deal and the West reneged on their part with Russia including payments.
Russia is twice bitten by Western treaties and agreements and are now skeptical of all deals and promises.
From the two Minsk deals to missile and nuke treaties along with NATO expansion the Russophobic racist west has treated Russia like retarded simpletons in treaties and agreements.
Russia will no longer go along with promises that never materialize due to NEOCON lies and subterfuge.
NEOCON=A–holes.
That is correct commanda.
Time changes many things, but I believe that this time Russia really turn her back on Europe. I don’t think this will cut off all forms of contact between peoples, but I do believe that foreign policy-generated agreements between Russia and the west (particularly the USA), are dead, again, perhaps, not forever, but I’m guessing for a significant interval.
