Russia warned on Wednesday that starting on July 20, it would consider all ships in the Black Sea heading to Ukrainian ports as carrying military cargo now that the grain deal has been terminated.
“Given that the Black Sea initiative has come to an end and the maritime humanitarian corridor has been terminated, all ships going across the Black Sea to Ukrainian ports will be considered potential carriers of military-purpose cargoes, starting from 12:00 am Moscow time on July 20, 2023,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.
According to TASS, the ministry said it would consider the flag states of ships traveling to Ukraine as a party to the conflict. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said the export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea could continue without Russia’s participation in the deal, but the Russian warning will likely scare shipping companies away.
Russia also announced Wednesday that it launched a second day of strikes against the Ukrainian Black Sea port city of Odesa. Russia said the missile and drone strikes hit military targets and fuel infrastructure, while Ukrainian officials said the Russian bombardment hit grain infrastructure. Russia ramped up strikes after the Ukrainian attack on the Crimean Bridge.
“Russian terrorists deliberately targeted the grain deal infrastructure, and every Russian missile is a blow not only to Ukraine, but to everyone in the world who wants a normal and safe life,” Zelensky said.
The Russians say “military targets.” Ukraine says “grain infrastructure.” Which set of liars should we believe?
“Which set of liars should we believe?”
Definitely not the Ukrainians or the Americans.
And definitely do believe Patrick Lancaster and the other pro Russia propagandists.
Given the debates on Russian state media this is hardly a case of low credibility of western/Ukrainian media:
And be sure you continue to believe liars like Biden, Blinken, Nuland, and Sullivan.
Drink!
Cheers!
Nuland Nuland Nuland!!!!!
LOL Patrick Lancaster is on the ground reporting live while you sit safely behind a keyboard spouting your hate and lies.
Yes, he is in the frontlines helping the Russia information war against Ukraine and the west while you sit behind the keyboard spouting your hate for West and Ukraine.
This is what he is really doing in the frontlines.
https://www.vice.com/en/article/wxneb4/ukraine-patrick-lancaster-journalist
No, that’s not what the Russians said. The MoD statement refers to “potential carriers of military-purpose cargoes.” Not the same as “military targets.” Not at all.
Accuracy counts.
Tell them what the kremlin meant, Peskov.
This is precisely why Russia issued the warning. It doesn’t matter what one believes as long as they understand that any vessel in the Black Sea that is headed for a Ukrainian port will be considered a military target.
I dimly remember the Cuban blockade that nearly turned Nuclear.
I do too. We went nuts over the missiles in Cuba, but expect Russia to merrily go along with nukes planted in countries bordering Russia.
America under Joey Biden is an empire of lies.
Under anybody.
Everybody
One nation under Nobody.
Sadly that is true of almost everyone elected or appointed to secure the power and profits of the Masters of Mankind,MIC,MSM. Regular citizens need not apply. That goes back almost forever.
The American MIC rose to power during WWII. After the war, the MIC should have been dismantled but grew like a cancer cell instead.
and the irony of a US military man warning us that would happen totally escapes the current MIC
I would imagine that very few countries today respect the U.S. and have only worked with them because of the billions of fiat dollars that D.C. has been sending to countries around the world. Throw in the fear of the U.S. military and what they are capable of and one can see why countries have been in the U.S. sphere for many years. That seems to be changing now and is one reason why the U.S. is eager to go to war with Russia/China as they threaten the role of the U.S. as the sole superpower and the U.S. realizes that if they don’t go to war now and wait for China to grow even stronger, their position in world affairs will be lessened.
And, Truman allowed the new CIA (old OSS) to grow.
Trumper, huh? How will you react to his orange jumpsuit?
“Trumper, huh?”…
and there is one of the problems with this country – just because someone doesn’t appreciate the current P.O.S. POTUS doesn’t mean that same someone automatically endorses the P.O.S. opposing choice for POTUS
Just a tankie then, huh?
nope. why don’t you just invent some more clever labels for people, that is your usual M.O.
I dunno. So far, I haven’t seen anything remotely clever from that one.
Why do you guys keep feeding that troll? It intentionally creates a mess with useless one-liners and makes it difficult for people to follow the conversation.
It sometimes takes a bit of exploration before I can decide how to categorize a forum poster like the allegedly “Rational” one. It isn’t always easy to distinguish between a troll and an honestly-misguided and brainwashed American whose mother never taught him any manners.
I wasn’t around for what was apparently a lot of earlier nasty behavior.
I think you’re right. There’s no point in engaging that one further. Time to take Shaw’s advice:
“Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty and the pig likes it.”
I’ll block him. I’m not sure how Disqus handles blocked users, but I’ll figure it out. Probably the Don Julio poster is just as hopeless and ought to be blocked, too.
I didn’t invent it.
“Just a tankie then, huh?”
…daah…you sure tol that tanky cuz you called him a tanky! hee-YUK hee-YUK!!! ……….daah…
I will see as his punishment for killing 8 year old Nawar Alaki
Just another mask for bs
I’m pretty sure that the Lusitania was, in fact, carrying tons of war munitions.
It was …..
It was. Pretty sick allowing that and the sinking of the ship, taking civilians to their deaths, just to come up with an excuse for the U.S. to enter the war, to save JPMorgan and other big banks from losing millions. Both of my grandfathers served in that war.
Is that pheromone that I smell? Are the British getting wet? Is it time for a UK war ship to conduct a “freedom of navigation exercise?” (Sarcasm)
i imagine that if someone asks permission from Russia then their ship might be tolerated.
“hey we would like to buy some grain and oil and nat gas please”
U.S. lift sanctions = Russia returns to allowing grain exports. Really quite simple. The sanctions part is conveniently absent in most media posting about it. It is mostly, “Russia bad for starving people”.
Of course. The MSM in the west is so controlled by Gov’ment propaganda that you can figure that whatever they put out in the morning for their talking points are lies.
One would hope so…!!!!!
This is the reason this war needs to be solved by military means. Russia will play these games forever against ukraine. Putin will opress and abuse them til the end. Especially if they keep Crimea and the Azov Sea which is one of the most prolific ports of Ukraine.
Terrorist Putin just destroyed the grain harbor in Odessa along with 66 tons of grains.
Nazi Putin is desperate but his personal war in Ukraine will only get worse.
Why don’t you grab a gun and go fight the Russians instead of running your mouth?
Ukrainian keyboard warriors are the toughest button pushers on the internet. They have no time to actually fight in a war …..
Are the Russian keyboard warriors any different? Or are they all like you?
I know that it’s impossible for you to understand this, but recognizing that Russia has been the victim of decades of US-led aggression; that its response is perfectly understandable and exactly the sort of response that any great power might choose in similar circumstances; that it is wrecking Ukraine; and that there isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Ukraine can prevail militarily does not mean mean or even suggest that those who hold those views are “pro-Russian” or “Putinbots” or any of the other things you and your nasty-ass, defiantly-ignorant cohorts endlessly sputter about.
(That’s how you construct a long sentence while following the rules of standard written English. 😎)
Holy shoot. You finally show your true colors. You are another Red Douglas.
All sweet talk filled with nothing. Just an empty wagon.
US led aggression towards Russia? What the f are you even talking about?
And because this said aggression you understand why Russia invaded Ukraine?
GTFOH with this crap. Yes, you are a pro Russia war freak in disguise.
The only thing i don’t understand is how can you believe and support all the BS coming from the Kremlin and pretend that somehow they are the victim.
Your support for Russia in this blog is sickening.
You: “US led aggression towards Russia? What the f are you even talking about?”
This is what he said: “decades of US-led aggression”.
Big difference. It’s those 30 years of history you try so hard to pretend didn’t happen. But as a Putin supporter yourself until 2014, you surely must have been aware of those years. Try thinking back when you still respected Vlad and the reasons you respected Vlad and maybe that history will come back to you.
Shit up Wars. You support the invasion and annexation of Ukraine. What the f ck are you even trying to argue with me.
Shut up Wars. You support the invasion and annexation of Ukraine. What the f ck are you even trying to argue with me
Putin was full of it. He criticized the US for invading other countries yet he goes ahead a invades and annexes Ukraine over BS claims which you support.
I’ve said it many times that yes, I agree with the annexation of Crimea. It was the will of the people of Crimea and necessary for Russia’s security. I didn’t support the invasion, I said it was inevitable. I don’t support Russia holding any other Ukrainian territory but unfortunately, that probably is a pipe dream now. And I wasn’t arguing with you. I just pointed out about you ignoring history which you repeated again with this comment (BS claims).
And Don, you agreed with Putin up until 2014. Didn’t Vlad do Georgia and Chechnya before that? Did you agree with your man Putin about that, and if not why did you continue to support him until 2014? And wasn’t Ukraine mentioned as a red line along with Georgia way back then in 2008? And yet you still “respected” Putin until 2014?
Amen!
There is a run-on after the last semicolon. There are definitely too many conjunctions. However, the bigger mistake is nothing you said is accurate. That’s the real crime.
LOL ^^IQ of < 70. ^^
Julio is over there giving us an update on the fighting and he says that Russia is retreating back across their border and the Russian Government is about to fall and Russia has had many more casulties than Ukraine, and the Ukraine counteroffensive is succeeding wildly and Russia is about out of weapons and……
Are you gonna grab a gun and go fight Ukrainians? Then you should probably STFU.
Oh sorry I insulted your dictator emperor.
I already fought for my country in other conflicts, few of which I didn’t personally believe in. I support the oppressed and abused. I support ukraine right to self defense and fight for its freedom and i am totally against Putin BS war against them. Do you?
Now Why dont you grab a gun a fight the Ukrainians, you Putin lover?
My support for Ukraine doesn’t have to be lethal. I support the Ukrainian people through other means, you hater.
“”I support the oppressed and abused. I support ukraine right to self defense and fight for its freedom””
really. did you support Crimea’s right to self defense in 2014 when they were being menaced by Ukraine?
Or the Russian speaking Ukraine citizens in Donbas when they were shelled for 8 years, killing 14,000 ?
yes those guys as well
Did Ukraine attack Crimean people full of Ukrainians?
What the F are you talking about? Pulling sh!t out of your butt?
You are full of it and you know it. Complete BS for you to claim such thing. This is kremlin propaganda.
You guys are in desperate mode constantly making false accusations.
2014 Russia kicked Ukrainian troops out of Crimea because Ukraine had been menacing the Russian speaking peoples of Crimea who decided they didn’t want any more Ukrainian BS.
you already kno0w this Julio because it was literally on the TV news so the continuing of your charade here is ridiculous
“War solves nothing… ” DD Eisenhower
Unless you are up against Putin in which case you can only surrender to him or fight back.
“Nazi Putin”? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
“This is the reason this war needs to be solved by military means.”
You really should be hoping fervently that it is not solved by military means. That will not happen — cannot happen — without massively more death and devastation for Ukraine.
Im going to put you on ignoristan.
You phony.
“”This is the reason this war needs to be solved by military means.””
with what, the weapons that Biden told us uncle sam just does not seem to have?
recall early on when Ukraine had a chance to give up but uncle sam/NATO ordered them to not give up.
With their people fighting for their nation.
Ukraine had a chance to give up?
Yes, they had a chance and didn’t take it. Just like you wouldn’t give up to someone that came to kill your family and take half your fAcking house.
Unless if it’s not your fAcking family nor your house then you are all over asking for that family to surrender.
“Just like you wouldn’t give up to someone that came to kill your family and take half your fAcking house.”
There was no such thing as “surrendering”. Who was going to be killed or lose their house pre-invasion? Or after an agreement that could have happened before the vast majority of destruction had occurred? And above all, what kind of deal is Ukraine going to get now?
Both sides had the opportunity, but were stopped by the U.S./ U.K.. Last April. More recently with a representative from Israel monitoring. He said flat out that the U.S. stopped it.
It’s obvious you don’t have a clue what a ‘Nazi’ is. Russia fought Germany in WW2 and lost millions of people to the Nazi regime. You can call Putin a lot of things but a Nazi? Not hardly. Julio old boy, you must have the only broken clock that isn’t even right twice a day.
War Criminal Putin has stopped grain shipments to many countries.
However, one of those countries happens to be China. We’ll have to see what a sh*t ton of starving Chinese does to the situation, no? Get out your popcorn (if you live in a country that still has corn!)
Interesting. Just saw an article a few minutes ago claiming that a Russian missile hit the Chinese consulate in Odesa as well. Wonder if that was an accident, or if it was an “accident” like the US missile hitting the Chinese embassy in Belgrade the day after China objected to the US bombing of Serbia?
China is the second-largest corn producer on the planet. In recent years, production has been about 260-270 million metric tons annually, while imports have been in the neighborhood of 10-15% of that. The US is — by far — the top supplier. The most important use of corn in China is for animal feed (they eat lots of pork).
You probably shouldn’t be too worried about starving Chinese. And don’t get too giddy over the possibility of China turning on Russia over trivia like this.
Perhaps you believe corn is the only grain? (Or did you just do a limited search and corn was on what you focused?)
We’ll see how the situation goes. (Maybe YOU shouldn’t be so giddy when discussing China’s long game regarding Russia/Ukraine.)
You should never imagine that I don’t do my homework. I always do my homework. And I’ve probably been doing it since before you were born.
The reason for focusing on corn is that corn is by far the most important grain crop that China imports from Ukraine. And Ukraine’s share of the total corn imports isn’t really all that important to China. I pointed that out because of the nonsense about starvation in China.
The other important grain import is, of course, wheat. China is one of the world’s major wheat importers, but: China is also one of the world’s largest wheat producers. About 135 million metric tons of wheat is produced in China yearly and only ten or so million metric tons are imported.
The vast majority of China’s wheat imports come from Australia, the US, Canada and France.
Ukraine’s wheat is mostly irrelevant to the Chinese internal market.
If you keep this up, you’ll be revealing to readers who recognize bullshit that you’re full of it.
Sure. You do your research AFTER you f**k up. Hahaha. You don’t intimidate anyone, small man. I can play you like a $2 banjo. You keep spewing your BS and I’ll keep kicking it with my s**tkickers!
You truly are an imbecile. A nasty-ass, rude imbecile. I’m pretty sure you don’t speak to people in real life the way you do in these threads. If you did, you wouldn’t be in real life anymore, because you would soon meet a real shitkicker or three.
You and Don Julio, and a couple of others, are poison in the discussions I’ve seen here so far. Perhaps that’s your purpose, to poison discussion for some twisted reason. You certainly make serious discussion difficult, and attempts to participate unpleasant — maybe too unpleasant to bother.
You are absolutely right Dissident51. These two bigoted idiots you mentioned lack the intelligence to conduct an intelligent discussion. Don’t react to these two weirdies.
Got under your skin, huh, chief? Told ya’!
Russia is also one of the biggest wheat producers in the world, if not the biggest. It’s claimed they can feed the whole world.
“The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine warns that from 00:00 on July 21, 2023, all vessels heading in the waters of the Black Sea in the direction of seaports of the Russian Federation and Ukrainian seaports located on the territory of Ukraine temporarily occupied by Russia, may be considered by Ukraine as carrying military goods with all the associated risks.”
Anyone want to bet against the possibility the US Harpoon missiles (range: 220 km from the air) have been adapted to launch from Ukrainian jets?
The counter move that makes it clear that the Russians have shot themselves in the foot on this!
I’m glad that marine route for weapon shipments is getting cut off and people in Ukraine and impoverished countries in the world can finally get food. I imagine grain shipments will be rerouted through Mariupol. Overall, this is just a planned operation in clean up of Ukraine and nothing really significant in a war with Anglo-American empire.
It’s a POS life these days waiting for the next shoe (bomb) to drop…!!!!
Russia should occupy and liberate the port of Odessa and completely cut off Ukraine from the Black Sea. The population of Odessa is overwhelmingly populated by ethnic Russian speaking population, same as in the Donbas and Cremia. It is the town where in 2014 after the Maidan coup which by the way started the war, innocent people were burned alive in the Trade Union building , by the new Nazi regime and those who escaped clubbed to death in front of the building. Many of us, who have followed the war since its onset, will still remember the awful pictures that were shown all over the world.
In the past three days, Russia has destroyed large portions of the port facilities in Odessa and Nikolaev.
It seems pretty clear that the repeated failure/refusal by the West to implement the parts of the grain deal related to Russian exports, and the latest attack on the Kerch Strait bridge, which Russia claims was launched from a “civilian” mother ship taking advantage of the grain deal, have triggered pretty massive retribution.
Until now, Odessa has mostly been free of major Russian missile and drone attacks. That appears to be changing. And it is certainly true that Russians and ethnic Russians in Ukraine are committed to seeking some form of justice (and/or revenge) for the massacre at the Trade Union building.
Will Russia move to take Odessa? I don’t know, of course, but I do know that lots of Russians want that to happen.
This was likely a very counter productive move for the Russians to make because:
1) Ukraine had fairly limited ability to export grain already
2) Exporting could be further curtailed through the current attacks
3) Hurting primarily third world countries is bad for image
4) Ukraine reciprocated threatening ships going to Russian ports
Especially the last point is where this gets bad, before the Russian step this was politically unviable for Ukraine, now it became possible.
Though the Ukrainians have low ability to hit, the use of small drones to hit the Russian ships in Sevastopol and the Kerch bridge shows that is is a real threat, this will make insuring trade with Russia through the Black sea very expensive/impossible.
So without a navy and with very limited abilities the Ukrainians are now able to damage Russian exports via the Black sea – not a great move if you ask me 🙂
“3) Hurting primarily third world countries is bad for image”
Russia promised, back in March, that it would provide free grain to the world’s poorest countries if it had to suspend the Black Sea grain deal.
Russia isn’t the nation that should be worried about its actions hurting its image with third-world countries. But, in case there are issues, I’m sure they will be discussed face-to-face. Here, next week, for instance:
https://african.business/2023/06/resources/russia-africa-summit-to-take-place-in-st-petersburg-from-26-29-july
“. . . this will make insuring trade with Russia through the Black sea very expensive/impossible.”
Western insurance for Russian shipments has been difficult or impossible to obtain since soon after the beginning of the war. That has led Russia to create its own tools for insurance of shipments of various kinds.
The suspension of the grain deal, the end of Russian protection for ships sailing to and from Ukrainian ports, and the destruction, over the past few days, of facilities Russia says were used to assemble and deploy marine drones are all fairly likely to make using those weapons to attack Crimea much more difficult. And a risk of more of the rather limited damage those attacks have so far inflicted probably isn’t much of a deterrent in any case.
Sure but they will face many of the same problems now as I point out – they opened a can of worms.
Well they are the ones who chose to end the grain deal.
I’m sure it will – as it is indeed these countries which will be hurt – by this action.
Sure but do they have the carrying capacity – they did not last I looked.
Not likely the marine drones are small and if the production sites are not taken out they can be launched from pretty much ‘any’ ramp.
“Russia said the…strikes hit military targets,” while Zelensky said, “Russian terrorists deliberately targeted” grain, hospitals, orphanages, schools, animal shelters, physically handicapped elderly people, and cancer research centers…
…”a blow not only to Ukraine, but to everyone in the world who wants a normal and safe life” – meaning you are with us and all humanity on earth or you are a genocidal Putin-lover but you wait we got a solution for you unclean vermin.
I say we sink ’em all. It’s the only way to be sure…
