Senators Dan Sullivan (R-AK) and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) agreed on Sunday that NATO expansion into Asia was “inevitable” as the Western military alliance increasingly has its eyes on China.
Both senators made the comments on NBC’s Meet the Press. When asked by host Chuck Todd if NATO expanding into Asia was inevitable, Sullivan replied, “I think it is, and I think it was a positive summit.”
Sullivan was part of the Senate delegation that attended the NATO summit in Vilnius last week. The communiqué that was issued by the alliance mentioned China more than a dozen times, compared with just one mention in the previous year’s NATO summit communiqué.
“It wasn’t just the mention of China several times – almost 20 times in my count – but Chuck, you probably saw the leaders who were there… the prime minister of Japan, prime minister of Australia, the president of Korea,” Sullivan said. He added that the Senate delegation met with the Asia Pacific leaders, calling it “a really strong signal with regard to NATO.”
Duckworth was then interviewed by Todd and said she agreed with Sullivan about NATO expansion into Asia. “I agree with my friend and frankly, it already has started to do that with our successful AUKUS agreement between the UK, Australia and the United States,” she said.
Building alliances in Asia is a major aspect of the Biden administration’s strategy against China. For their part, Beijing has repeatedly told NATO to stay out of the region and has warned that the US’s strategy of forming blocs in the region could lead to a “Ukraine-style crisis.”
There is some opposition to expanding into Asia within NATO as France has blocked the alliance’s plans to open a liaison office in Japan. However, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has said the plan is still up for discussion, signaling it could still happen in the future.
“Democrat, Republican Senators Agree NATO Expansion Into Asia Is ‘Inevitable’”
Countries in Asia do not need or want a bunch of Washington directed warmongers in the region.
On the bell curve of intelligence Asian people have the highest IQ of any in the world. They will tell NATO to seek their wars and fortunes elsewhere.
Depends on the bribes.
the very first sentence = Senators Dan Sullivan (R-AK) and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) agreed on Sunday that NATO expansion into Asia was “inevitable” as the Western military alliance increasingly has its eyes on China.
WTF AK & IL are actually closer to the N Atlantic than China is.
“you so stupid!”
…. uncle Mao
Take a hike yanks.
nato needs to be dissolved like any terrorist organization and to think it spread from the north atlantic to become a global plague…
What oil and rubber were to Japan in 1945 microprocessors are to China now, absolutely essential to it ports, railroads, bureaucracy, airlines, basic industries, military, … etc.. The takeover of Taiwan gives the game away. Washington has effectively blockaded “chips” to China, and China will have to break out, … you got it, an unprovoked and illegal invasion of Taiwan, … “Ukraine 2.0”.
Japan did not have the option of drilling for oil in Japan or territory is already controlled, because there was no oil there to drill.
China does have the option to make its own chips. There might be a brief delay which they “acquire” the technology, but they meant to do that anyway and were likely already working on that in many ways from their own labs to intelligence operations.
This is likely to be a hiccup for China’s plans, not a forced war. It does however irritate relations, at a sensitive time.
From what I can tell, they are caught up on industrial strength chips already and are even exporting them.
They are several years behind the west in high performance chips, and steadily gaining ground.
They produce enough for 5g equipment.
The most like likely result of this is that in 5 to 7 years they will be the number 1 chip producer at all levels. They are taking chip production very seriously.
Any serious NATO confrontation with China will leave the non-nuclear NATO countries smoldering and tens, if not hundreds of millions of their citizens scorched by nuclear fire. Can’t we all just get along…???? Do States like N.Macedonia, Montenegro really want to be in a nuclear war with China or more likely Russia and China….????? One thing is sure, if NATO goes to Asia to confront Chine and succeeds to harm China in any way they will likely not stay unharmed themselves. A time will come when the truly powerful states of China and Russia will want to make an example of what can happen to those who are constantly harassing them. That time is getting closer and closer with every provocation, large or incidental. Small non-nuclear bomb places, especially will be exposed the jeopardy of their existential well being
Not as long as the US and its ruling class are calling the shots.
NATO in the Asia Pacific what could possibly go wrong ? .
Most likely there will be no NATO left anyway, Biden and his neocons are on a suicide mission, they are imploding taking NATO down, the pipeline sabotage would fit in to the irrational politics.
The entire cabal of ruling class America is fucking nuts.
And most of NATO leadership, more then 90% are idiots, look at the Stoltenberg A-hole.
The nuts are now telling us that evil Putin weaponized food, as if they don’t know that it only is what the sanctions they impose are? The evil people in DC were not humane enough to lift the sanctions for a few days to rescue Syrian earthquake victims.
They weaponize food, energy, Medicine and money against some 30 nations we are not even at war with. What a Mad House that Biden WH really is. There are no names to call the idiots and the suckers who buy the BS.
Yes there are,we call them Republicans and Democrats.
Yes there is Republicans and Democrats.
Well the Asian nations like Australia etc don’t have aircraft carriers for China to blow up.
Crazy to spend the vast sums that the carriers cost on things that can be put on the bottom in water 3 miles deepn things that cant ‘sink to the bottom in water 3 miles deep and be a total loss of billions. Hypersonic Missiles are the future. Slow costly carriers are so WWII. They”re very lsrge targets and obsolete ….!!!!!
6000 Navy families have people serving on these obsolete beasts.
Does CENTO still exist?
The alliance was dissolved on 16 March 1979.
But it is a good question that was worth a Google search.
And if WW3 isn’t inevitable as it is, let’s make damn sure that we leave no doubt.
This view sees NATO as the US mechanism of control of EU foreign and defense policy. As US concerns shift, it finds it natural to drag along those it controls.
However, the EU has been given many reasons to question this. Current EU governments flatly won’t, but their challengers will, and their challengers are gaining power from the same developments which current governments refuse to question — energy prices and export market limitations.
It is natural that the US wants NATO to do this, but not at all natural that EU voters will go along with that for much longer, as the US makes a wreck of the European economy.
NATO, from the start was a US proxy to protect US interests only. It was never used to defend any NATO member but paid and provided troops actively attacking other nations in US interests only. NATO protected US energy interests globally.
It will be next in line to be sacrificed to protect the US interests against Russia and China.
Sweden and Finland are welcome to fund the military adventures, Ukraine can’t contribute any more than it already did. Ukraine served its purpose.
With wheat and gas shortages it is going to be a cold hungry winter in Europe.
European farmers have already been complaining of a wheat glut from Ukraine — and now it will be a buyer’s market, with as many bushels coming in as the European governments will allow, by truck. The countries that will be hurt by a shipping blockade are Ukraine’s top 5 usual grain buyers — Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria, and Ethiopia.
EU does Not have a foreign and defense policy of its own… They always been told to take sides with US…!
Romeo and Juliet
Are together in eternity (Romeo and Juliet)
40, 000 men and women everyday (like Romeo and Juliet)
40, 000 men and women everyday (redefine happiness)
Another 40, 000 coming everyday (we can be like they are)

son of bitches
Just goes to show that our senators are as stupid as our president.
I knew that and have known it for a long time.Biden Graham,Cruz,McCain,Clinton,Obama along list of very poor choices
I believe the USA has finally back engineered crashed and shot down UFO’s and has weaponized them. Because of this huge leap in technology the USA has the opportunity to subjugate both China and Russia with no fear of a nuclear exchange or all out war. What the USA wants now is to push both China and Russia into making a move that would give the USA the pretense needed to unleash the off world weapon technology, and USA wants to do it quick while it has the upper hand, or shall I say the upper fist. Rest assured when this happens the DC Ghouls and the military and their military complex, will rule the world like the despots they are and soon you may kiss the Constitution and B.O.R’s good bye. Sounds crazy, but VERY plausible.

They are a bit premature. Ukraine does not look like a win. Europe is not flush with prosperity. UK even worse. An appearance of “all is well” in US is shaky.
Being embattled on so many fronts, US wants to open — another front!
With manufacturing moribund in US and rapidly deteriorating in Europe – something has to give. New manufacturing centers, Vietnam, Indonesia or even Mexico — are all thriving curtesy of Chinese transplants of technology and supply chains. Will Japan follow by cutting off their lucrative gas deal with Russia? Do not think so. Will India change its military industrial policy with Russia? With what pride US touts Indian sales of their Brahmos missiles to Philippines? Forgetting that the name consists of two rivers — Brahmaputra and Moscow. A coproduced missile. And a special version of Russian Sukhoi plane designed to fire off Brahmos from tge fighter plane.
Even Australia is softening stance on China. Cannot affford not to.
If QUAD is faltering. NATO cannot contribute to the security of the region.
