Sweden on Monday approved the extradition of a man to Turkey who has previously expressed support for the PKK, a Kurdish militant group Turkey, the US, and the EU consider a terrorist organization.
Turkey has refused to approve Sweden’s NATO bid over the Nordic country’s alleged support for the PKK and has been pushing for Stockholm to approve the extradition of suspected associates of the group.
The 35-year-old man, whose name hasn’t been released, is a Turkish citizen who was convicted in Turkey on a drug charge and served over four years in prison. He moved to Sweden when he was released on parole and was arrested last August at Turkey’s request, and now his extradition has been approved.
According to AFP, the man thinks the real reason for his extradition is not the drug charge but his links to the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Turkey and because he’s previously shown support for the PKK.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other Turkish officials have made clear that they are seeking the extradition of suspected PKK members from Sweden as a condition for approving Stockholm’s NATO bid.
Sweden has also passed a new anti-terror law in an effort to placate Turkey, which criminalizes “participation in a terrorist organization.” The law and Turkey’s efforts to target Kurds in Sweden sparked anti-NATO demonstrations that took place in Stockholm earlier this month.
Now that Erdogan has secured a victory in Turkey’s recent presidential elections, the US and NATO appear to be stepping up their efforts to get Ankara to let Stockholm join NATO. Sweden is eager to join the alliance and is allowing the deployment of NATO troops on its territory before gaining its membership, which is said to be a message to Russia.

once upon a time Sweden didn’t have a care in the world.
i think their motto actually was “everybody stay out of my yard”
Only One Man….?! Turkey asked for 30 such men…!
” Sweden is eager to join the alliance and is allowing the deployment of NATO troops on its territory before gaining its membership, which is said to be a message to Russia.”
And that message was to make sure that they were now included on the list of countries to attack if the war escalates to the point NATO gets involved. They should feel so safe now.
Well, that’s one way of interpreting the “message.”
Another way to interpret it is “you don’t want this war to escalate, so maybe you should knock it off and go home.”
Since Türkiye was mentioned …..
Very interesting article about banking associations of the Turkic states (or not;-):
(Jun 13, 2023)
Moves imply regional de-dollarisation, creation of digital Turkic currency
The Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) has discussed cooperation in the field of digital financial technologies and security with the Association of Banks of Turkic-speaking States, (also known as the Council of Banks Associations) according to Taleh Kazimov, the Governor of the CBA.
“We have met with the heads of associations of banks of Turkic-speaking countries located in Azerbaijan in order to participate in the Fintech summit organized by the Association of Banks of Azerbaijan,” Kazimov said.
“We have exchanged views on the development of a modern banking and financial ecosystem, innovative solutions, cooperation in the field of digital financial technologies and security, exchange of experience, study and application of international experience in this field during the meeting,” he added.

And that works with overgrown street gangs?
It’s been known to work between street gangs of all sizes.
It doesn’t always work out for the gang that sends the message, or for the gang that gets the message and complies.
For example, after Saddam’s Iraqi gang took Sabah’s Kuwaiti gang turf in 1990, he decided to go after Fahd’s Saudi gang’s turf as well. But a few miles into that turf, his guys were met by members of Bush’s US gang, who told them that would be a very, very bad idea, and they turned around and went back to their newly acquired Kuwaiti turf. But doing so only bought them five months.
Saddam’s gang wasn’t in the same league.
OK then, let’s take two gangs of more similar power: US and USSR circa the early 1960s. While Kruschev allowed JFK to save some face, that’s essentially the story of US missiles in Turkey. “OK, we’re putting ours in Cuba. Do you REALLY want to keep pushing this, or would you maybe like to get out while the getting’s good?”
The Swedes have a Kurdish terrorist on their hands?
Aren’t we building a new base in northern Syria to protect the Kurds who are protecting Europe’s oil fields from the Russians and their vassel Assad?
“”Swedes have a Kurdish terrorist on their hands””
how could they even pick him out of a line-up?
It would be hard but those Swedes really do look like a stereotypical Swede.
I had a Swedish sociology professor who looked like a blond busty stewardess from Swedish air. She co-taught a class with the department head who was half Hawaiian who hulu danced at indigenous festivals and treated us to a dance occasionally ( it was real not a movie sort of nonsence you see on TV)
She was “fit” ;-)….
My gawd they were not just “cute”……but straight up beautiful; late 30s Hulu girl to mid 40s for the Swedish swimsuit model.
Plus they had Masters and were intelligent as heck.
well then a Kurdish terrorist should be able to skulk around incognito over there
