Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said Wednesday that cooperation between Russia and China has reached an “unprecedented high” due to pressure both nations are facing from the West.
“Today, relations between Russia and China are at an unprecedented high level,” Mishustin said in talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing.
“They are characterized by mutual respect of each other’s interests, the desire to jointly respond to challenges, which is associated with increased turbulence in the international arena and the pattern of sensational pressure from the collective West,” Mishustin.
During Mishustin’s visit, Russian and Chinese officials signed agreements to boost cooperation on trade and sports. Trade between the two nations has soared in recent years and has spiked even more after the US and its allies began imposing energy sanctions on Russia following the invasion of Ukraine.
As a result of the US-led sanctions blitz, China is now Russia’s top energy customer. Russian energy sales to China are expected to rise by 40% in 2023 compared with 2022.
A day earlier, Mishustin spoke at a forum in Shanghai and said overall trade between Russia and China would hit a record high of $200 billion in 2023, up from $190 billion in 2022.
This is an oopsie moment that U.S. will never forget. Mark this under another U.S. foreign policy blunder.
When the only you tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.
Agreed. The US is a warfare state all the way down to the 2nd Amendment.
“Mark this under another U.S. foreign policy blunder.” I agree enthusiastically except it’s more than just “another”–it’s the mother of all blunders!
What we are seeing is basically the direct opposite of what the US foreign policy elite were planning. Instead of wrecking Russia and then pivoting toward China, the US is now facing Russia and China united against it. Economic sanctions are not doing their usual magic and the unipolar New World Order is looking rather disorderly. It’s sad to have so much power and yet not be able to get your way. 🙁
I guess King Philip II had a similar feeling after the English defeated the great Spanish Armada. The party’s almost over but hey, the US empire had a fun run for 100+ years.
It was all-or-nothing even back in 2014. Pretty much everyone knew the empire is going down after 2008 crash and started frantically diversifying their assets. Major war in Europe is their only option and when Putin refused to play and instead went to clean up Mideast, imperial parasites became completely psychotic.
Very enjoyable to watch.
The weather defeated the Spanish Armada, not the English. And Phillip II ran a kingdom vastly superior in every way to Elizabethan England, IMHO.
Sanctions are working out just great….lol.
War always cause disruptions in economics and this is a huge game changer that will have consequences.
Those two along with their BRICS partners and those nations asking to become a part of it are going to grow (their combined GDP is larger than the G7’s and the gap will grow larger) into a huge bloc that competes with the west and its dollar.
With each BRICS member continuing to focus on its own national interest, they currently are no threat to the US, EU or any economic connections in the Asia/Pacific region. China wants Russia to continue to sell them cheap petroleum products. China plays the strategic game well.
That proposed basket of currencies to compete with the dollar that has been said to be announced in August at the Durban meeting can be deemed a “threat” to the dollar as well as the west’s enonomic order.
Existential threat since not only Rebel Alliance is viable alternative, it shrinks the market for parasitical imperial exploration. (less imperial slaves) This means lower standards of living within the empire and as competing capital markets grow, so will grow standards of living outside of empire. Very, very bad for self-proclaimed ‘indispensable exeptionalists’
Unfortunely the Chinese and their neocolonialism along with Russia’s attempts in that regard too generates modern day slaves..
Just ask those poor Africans strip mining their counties to survive about slavery as the Chinese exploit Africa’s resources like all colonial powers do.
Sounds more like anti-TikTok propaganda to me. They don’t have much presence in Africa. It is still mostly French and English colonial. Besides, exploitation of the workers wouldn’t fit with that communist agenda.
Perhaps you need to peruse China’s mining efforts in Africa?
I know you all like to claim Communists can’t engage in colonialism but that is not true.
China and to a lessor extent Russia meet the definition in regard to exploitation of resources while the Chinese (not the Russians) engage in work practices that many claim is a version of modern day slavery.
I’m not making excuses for any authoritarian regime but PRC and USSR/RF does look better compered to degenerate, brutal, genocidal Empire of Lies. They are less of ‘two evils’ That is how most folks in the world see it as well. The ‘evils’ of ‘lesser evils’ shouldn’t be ignored but hyperbolic, ridiculous propaganda tries to tilt the perception in order to somehow elevate the degenerate empire by only pointing out ‘evils’ of their enemy. This sorry, cowardly bunch doesn’t even try to somehow white-wash the crimes of the parasitic empire. As if, somehow, by pointing out small, insignificant specs of dust will erase all their dirt pile. It’s ridiculous to any casual observer.
So you favor one over the other because of your perceptions of what good and evil is.
And you can use very descriptive words and accusations while doing so.
I too can return just as scornful words for the millions of deaths we can lay at the feet of communism but why bother?
It will just make you mad and I don’t even know you.
Well, that is my point. Propaganda about deeds of enemy (communists in this instance) versus reality.
And there is really no need to be cautious about upsetting me. Speak your mind.
So your side’s propoganda about us is true but ours about you is untrue?
You are wrong and I am right….lol.
No, not at all. Key is to have access to propaganda from both sides to make educated conclusion. We don’t have that within Anglo-American empire. Overwhelming censorship and suppression of journalism prevents that. Besides, there isn’t much that compare to humongous imperial propaganda machine.
So you have no censureship in Russia?
You make me laugh Boris.
Everything you accuse the Westof you engage yourself whether you want to admit it or not.
Not much from my perspective. They even have services that translate imperial propaganda into Russian.
I don’t accuse west of anything. West is a direction on the compass. I simply point out facts about degenerate Anglo-American empire.
Oh, forgot to mention that I’m not in Russia and my user name isn’t Boris. It’s Ivan.
Sure Boris your government never lies to you…..
Your media is totally truthful as well…..lol.
No one ever lies to you, especially no one connected to your government.
Washington filth constantly lie to me. In fact, I expect lies and disinformation/misinformation from imperial propaganda. You think you have some kind of special media just for you, Karen?
No unlike you, I know my leaders lie all the time to me.
Putin is as big of a liar as Biden is.
Probably a bigger and more skillful liar. Politicians lie. That’s pretty much their job. This so-called “democracy” we have is nurturing and promoting biggest psychopaths to the top.
Your psyho politicians are not any worse than ours no matter what the other politicians who want their jobs say.
I blame it all on the French and what is called the first Communist revolution by some.
The managorial class of shopkeepers wanted to throw out the monarchy because they wanted to run things.
Now we have unelected government bureaucracy and politicians who lie and enrich themselves while they use the media to keep everyone upset at each other.
So you were programmed to hate communists and you’re still doing this state-based ‘us/them’ thing.
Marxism is based on US Declaration of Independence. The fundamental understanding of ‘We The People’
Free people don’t need rulers, slaves do.
Lol
You just want to west bash.
Is Russia that boring Boris?
Yes Karen, that’s exactly what it is. I hate North and West but love South and East. And don’t you be mixing South and West! You can’t move there! That’s against bashing regulations.
Karen?
That’s a western term. Just where are you from? Chicago? LA?
Look at the commie act like a efing child.
How old are you Boris?
16? 22?
Worse, even though that is true, it is better for them than the IMF system, of paying cash to the corrupt leaders’ Swiss bank accounts, to be “paid back” by that same strip mining for which they were “paid” by debt cancellation.
Both sides do it but the Chinese seem to be the big player in the neocolonialsm game nowadays.
Its defenders resort to claims it isn’t “really isn’t” colonialism but that’s just the typical “trying to excuse one’s friends for actions you’d excoriate others for” stuff.
It is as far as I can judge not deemed a threat, in the sense that an alternative to the USD as a currency for trade clearance (not value storage) is actually welcome to at least one of Biden’s advisors.
Watch this video for an explanation, remember that this is not a source to be trusted but one that will help you understand and track down the individual claims
The big question is naturally if this is what the (entire) US administration wants and more importantly if the BRICS can actually create a trusted currency, because even if not used as a value storage it still needs to be trusted.
Competition is a threat to the dollar and an alternative to the dollar that arises from a group of nations with a larger combined GDP than the G7, little alone just the US, is not something that won’t be a threat.
Yep.
The US has continually abused the power it got out of the dollar being a reserve currency of choice and the preferred medium of exchange for oil. At some point, when you’ve abused something badly enough for long enough, you lose it. Real competition with some other challenger, whether it’s the BRICS offering or not, will be painful for Americans. But probably very good for the world in general.
Jared Bernstein is of the opinion that being the reserve currency is hurting US economy:
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/the-dollar-is-costing-us-jobs–bernstein-193131356.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAC-icrv-ytOAqSX1Ntwkaf5572JcG_2PtuRdgeZNbQcTbL8XDfBctaBtK46VJdB-UKuXjjbublDwH_4dnhkvuu7n7814z-NG4oQlCs97sYue1fiRJYYbZL2ONfwXygbtTZboJyYIdjqNSl4B_7bz8THPO_XAg8xH0onCOseejjiz
I see opportunities in that competition not all the doom and gloom that some like to write about.
So you decided not to listen to the presentation – it was probably too long So just listen to the part from 15:00 and out.
Jared Bernstein is advocating for this and he is head of Biden administration council of Economic advisors – so perhaps the Biden administration is not as opposed to a threat to the dollar.
You actually provided a link to Bernstein claiming everything is under control?
I knew it was some joke of a youtube video but a US official telling lies?
No I provided a link to Jared Bernstein arguing against the dollar continuing to be the reserve currency of the world before the BRICS plan was known in August 2014:
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/the-dollar-is-costing-us-jobs–bernstein-193131356.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAC-icrv-ytOAqSX1Ntwkaf5572JcG_2PtuRdgeZNbQcTbL8XDfBctaBtK46VJdB-UKuXjjbublDwH_4dnhkvuu7n7814z-NG4oQlCs97sYue1fiRJYYbZL2ONfwXygbtTZboJyYIdjqNSl4B_7bz8THPO_XAg8xH0onCOseejjiz
I took my own advice and tracked down the claims made in the video. So the video is less of a joke than your comments – it may not become US policy but the arguments he provides are sound – the question is if the power hungry US leaders are willing to cede the power of being the worlds reserve currency for the economic benefits that would yield.
A 9 year old clip? Dude come on.
It may had been really pertinate years ago but today?
I’m glad I knew not to waste my time even before you shared how old that was.
There is a big difference between a reserve currency and a currency of account.
For example, in 19th Century America, there was very little actual currency in circulation in many places. However, they bartered, and kept track of their balance in the bartering in books of account showing dollar values.
In currency, 19th Century America had gold-certificate dollars, actual coins of gold dollars, silver-certificate dollars, actual silver coins, greenback dollars (US Fed Reserve certificates), and before that Continental dollars (near worthless) and each state and many banks issued their own “dollars” which were backed by the State willing to take them as tax payment. If anyone actually showed up to pay in “dollars” it made a huge difference which “dollar” they had. A gold coin was worth more than a greenback dollar, and both worth a lot more than a state dollar or a private bank dollar.
For another, in ancient times the vast variety of coins were each assigned an agreed upon value in terms of one little-used Roman coin that few ever even saw in practice. Then they’d pay with the currencies actually on hand using those values.
In an era talking of digital currency, we could easily slide into agreed values measured by a currency of account that nobody actually has or uses.
History lessons are nice but you might peruse some of the myriad of contemporaneous reporting on the upcoming meeting and probable basket of digital currencies occurring as a means to conduct trade without the dollar amongst themselves and others.
Interesting notion. Indeed, while the functions of a currency are unit of account, medium of exchange, and store of value, some currencies are stronger with one of those functions than others.
But it doesn’t seem to me that if the dollar or whatever mainly became just a unit of account, that things would bode very well for its future minus those other functions.
What a Chinese leader promise to putim the Chinese state follows through to to fulfill, when a US leader does the same…crickets
And how about all those 3rd world countries ready to go bankrupts as China calls their debt in as it was structured in a way that forces them to get paid first. All hail China! Such a great country, with such a warm, wonderful selfless leader. Hacking you and stealing your intellectual property one company at a time. Cough Cough cough
Go eat some chilies while the unipolar order ends. Do me a favor please, find someone like Bush w and vote for him again as I m sure u did in 2000 and 2004. The multipolar world order thanks u
Wish ful thinking by China and Russia. We are all going to burn before we give that up.
If the US can’t rule the world you will burn it to the ground???
No, but they will.
The ones at the top want to enjoy life. They would rather settle for less rather then bring it all down. They r not fanatics they r as corrupt as any third world country autocrats
I think you underestimate both China’s ambitions and our resolve and determination. Do I think they would launch an ICBM and start a nuclear war? No. But I do think they would use a small device that could start a chain reaction. I do think they will keep pushing Russian and China into a corner until things sprial out of control and lead to a nuclear escalation. I do think Kim in North Korea might launch one because he’s irrational and insane. And I do think China would back him after he did to fight us.
Kim is quite rational and sane within the parameters required to maintain the system he inherited.
The proof of that is that he’s still alive.
I also think if Zelinski or the Azov battalion got their hands one one they would use it in a heartbeat. That’s probably the most probably start of a nuclear war. Proxy via Ukraine or N. Korea at which point would escalate quickly into a larger exchange.
