Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Wednesday that Moscow is ready to look at peace proposals for the conflict in Ukraine from African leaders and Brazil.
“In both cases we responded to initiatives from Latin American and African friends that we were ready to consider any of their proposals that were prompted by a sincere desire to help stabilize the world order,” Lavrov said, according to TASS.
His comments come after South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said that both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have agreed to host a delegation of African leaders to discuss a peace proposal. The plan is backed by Ramaphosa and the leaders of Senegal, Uganda, Egypt, the Republic of the Congo, and Zambia.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been calling for diplomacy to end the fighting in Ukraine, but Lavrov said he hasn’t seen a written proposal. “So far, unlike our Chinese neighbors, we have not seen documents on the issue either from the Brazilians or the Africans,” he said.
“We have confirmed our readiness to maintain contacts whenever they are interested, because it is in our interests to deliver to as many as possible of our partners on all continents the logic that becomes clear to an independent observer,” Lavrov added.
In February, China released a 12-point peace plan for the conflict that calls for a pause in fighting and for negotiations to resume. Beijing has sent a special envoy to visit the region, Li Hui, who has already arrived in Kyiv. Li will also visit Russia, France, Germany, and Poland.
The latest attempt was by Israel. We put the end to that one too. The guy with the aviator glasses is looking more and more like Peter Sellers.
More like the organ-grinders monkey to me, and we all know who the organ grinder is.
Looks like some people’s wild claims that Russia won’t be able to keep supplying themselves and there will be a future failure of logistics won’t happen.
Peace talks will end this not waiting for a future collapse of capacity to continue.
Russia has a failure of logistics and lack of weapons right now.
There’s a stalemate with pretty static lines yet you claim it’s failing today.
Then why aren’t those hapless Ukrainians pushing them back?
How’s that Spring offensive doing?
It is exactly why Russia, inspire of its force size advantage and super advanced weapons hasn’t crushed Ukraine a year plus into its war. The little guy is holding up the second largest force in the world. Pretty humiliating if you ask me.
You’ll hear about the offensive when it happens, it’s their terms, not ours. And I’m sure you won’t like the outcome.
New story at antiwar Donald:
The US is talking a stalemate similar to Korea because they foresee the offensive to not take territory back.
We get a DMZ around where the lines are after the talking and we get to argue about the neocon attempt to get a war going in Taiwan to replace this one.
It looks like this war may be winding down soon.
Yep, and you believe everything you see on paper. Good, no wonder you continue typing baseless claims here.
But please, repeat it and repeat it many times and make sure the Russians hear about it. Also, listen to Scott Ritter and Col Mcgregor, they pass a lot of credible information.
BTW, how did your Russian winter offensive go? I heard they took a lot of territory.
So Donny doesn’t even believe what he reads here.
He prefers State Departnent press releases because the US government would never ever lie to him.
Is the NYTs is your go to source for government press releases or do you get the daily dump from the White House of every lie they are telling each day?
There is a stalemate right now, but then we were in this stalemate since November 2022, so all through the expected Russian winter offensive and we are now just before the Ukrainian ‘spring’ offensive – if that also fails like the Russian winter one then we may say that we are at a stalemate.
Yes they are and Putin keeps wanting to talk.
One day Ukraine will too and it will be likely the day after they are realize we won’t give them enough to push anyone out and what we do give them is getting slower and slower in coming.
Putin keeps wanting to talk because he has gotten himself into deep trouble. One day Ukraine will perhaps too – it may be after the Russians have given up and left or it may be sooner – if it is sooner then the Russians/Putin will not like the outcome i.e. a peace with Ukraine but only limited lifting of the western sanctions.
We the west that is are giving the Ukrainians the help we can without compromising our own safety – it takes quite a while to ramp up production and it is not without cost – little by little they will get what they need – so far the Russian advantage has been severely reduced in very many of the different weapons categories – that is what is believed in the west.
If by trouble you mean he’s “liberated” (lol) the Russian speaking areas from those eeeevile Nazis we keep hearing about and he’s willing to stop where he is, if Ukraine “promises” to be neutral (which will likely only be on paper but Putin needs the promise even if fingers are crossed).
Ukrainian DMZ here we come…
No I meant the kind of trouble you can hear about almost every night on RT. As for liberating anyone from evil Nazis, that will be the Ukrainians doing that – only on Russian State TV can you find people debating the size of the genocide that have to execute when they win
If so here we go anther few decades of isolating the Russians until their economy collapses once more – too bad if it has to be so, but it has to be so if they cannot accept that it is just not OK to annex territory from their neighbors.
RT is OK but does suffer from a little too much heavy handed govenment control (let’s be kind) plus Russian media is like reading a Solzhenitsyn book; there’s a lot stuff unspoken and in-between lines “stuff” he wanted you to know but could not say.
You have to always be looking for the unspoken but that’s where the real news is and Russian media are masters at that.
Just my impression but I really take anything that originates in Russia with a huge grain of salt, especially now there’s a war going on.
Whatever the African countries and Brazil propose will most likely be a sensible and mutually beneficial peace agreement, and a move away from the “dollar diplomacy” of creating wars for globalist hegemony
Oh, Russia is ready for a peace proposal? Here’s one from me, how about Russia gets the F out of Ukraine and respect their territorial integrity and sovereignty in the name of peace?
If the Ukrainian regime is smart, it will accept the “loss” of Donetsk/Luhansk/Crimea, none of which have been part of Ukraine since 2014 anyway.
If the Russian regime is smart, it won’t draw a hard line on any more than that, although it might try for a land corridor to connect Donetsk/Luhansk to Crimea.
That’s how this war is almost certain to end (or at least revert to “frozen conflict” status) anyway, and what was apparently on the table last year before Johnson took Zelenskyy to the high place and offered him the world for his soul. The only question is whether the two regimes are tired enough of bleeding yet to face reality.
I’d hope for the ‘if Russia regime is smart’ part however, if Ukraine manages to take any of the Eastern Sea Ports, Zelensky should also demand that Russia allows maritime traffic through the see of Azov without harassment as that is key to their grain exports.
If the Russians are clever they’ll do what they can to avoid being economically isolated like the Soviets were – holding on to the areas you describe will involve near total isolation – the only question is how much humble pie they have to eat to get out of this.
Russia seems to be sitting tight, killing all the poor Ukrainian conscripts the Zelensky government is throwing at them, and methodically destroying everything that NATO has contributed to this horrible debacle including Patriot missiles and US mercenaries. The toxic trio of Sullivan, Blinken, and Nuland will never let real peace negotiations happen.
Another relay antenna here. Nice Kremlin narrative. Continue repeating it and it may become true.
Being as how you have the last word on everything, maybe you should enlist in some NATO mercenary unit and fight the evil Ruskies yourself. Neocons/Neolibs are always looking for true believers to turn into cannon fodder.
I’ve already served and don’t have anything against the Ruskies. I love Russia, Belarus and Ukraine and have many good friends there. My criticism is against the Kremlin and Hitler wannabe Putin.
